"Bind to socket failed"
I'm running RedHat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.17) on a PII 300. I'm using Liveice
with XMMS. I had no problem broadcasting with Shoutcast and Winamp back
before I switched over to Linux. I'd love to get going on broadcasting...
but Icecast refusing to open is a problem.
Running icecast gives me the following.

osx and icecast
I've got two quick q's about icecast. If these two q's have already
been answered, could someone let me know when so I know where to look
in the archives?
Here's the siutation. Macamp has now gone bunk and I need to broadcast
my dj show from my home to a server that has NullSoft shoutcast. The
dj's normally use winamp's shoutcast plugin to broadcast to the

lots of icecast help needed
Hi, I've been running Icecast on my server for over five months now and am
having lots of problems with it. I must have pulled out half of my hair on
this product, mostly due to lack of support. (I mean, have you ever gotten
an answer to your question at icecast.org?) I've tried it all: sc_serv,
Icecast, shout, ices, streamcast, liveice. I could greatly use any help.

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
I'm new to streaming or music hearing over the wire, I still prefer my
old-fashioned stereo equipment :-)
But a friend asked me to setup a shoutcast server for him, so I went out
and installed it, played a bit with it and didn't like it. So I looked for
an open source alternative and found Icecast. Installed fine, works fine.
But there is one thing which puzzles me and I hope someone

Ices memory leak?
Is anyone else experiencing what seems to be a memory
leak with Ices? I can have icecast up and running with
WinAmp streaming to it from my '98 box for days at a
time with no problem. As soon as I start Ices I'll
launch top to watch and my free mem starts dropping
-fast-. Starting from about 160MB free, in 4-5 hours I
have 2MB free with Ices crashed and the memory
unrecovered which sends

OT: OGG in the mainstream
I think when the real-time cbr encoding issues are sorted Vorbis (this is my
experience with oddcast dsp, winamp and icecast 2 win32, big cpu hog) will
start gaining more ground, also I think it will also gain more ground when
it starts getting implemented into the more mainstream software and hardware
products.
For the most part vbr mp3 (btw, provide mp3's for downloads as vbr.. Better

Ices0 and ShoutCast (and KiSS)
I have successfully set up a system with Ices0.4 and IceCast2.20 (and
Tunez). It plays well using mpg123 or WinAmp.
But I would like to use also my KiSS DVD player for the stream, and I have
not been able to do so - It appearently needs 110% SHOUTcast
compatibility.
So I tried the IceCast2.3.1 - but it still didn't like the KiSS (or the
other way around). In stead, I have added a SHOUTcast

Ices memory leak?
i'd also point out that memory "use" under linux can be deceptive.

Ogg response headers
Ok i got a few questions
when a client connects (winamp) what are the incoming headers icecast looks for to signify what type(ogg or mp3) of stream the client is requesting?
example
(for shoutcast winamp sends icy-metadata:1)
shoutcast server then recognizes its a player capable of streaming media so it sends the icy-metaint:8192 to winamp, along with a slew of other icy headers.

AACPlus Shoutcast v1.90
Just so you know the what's happening with the competition,
Nullsoft has released Shoutcast DSP v1.90 supporting AACPlus encoding
for free.
http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/shoutcast-dsp-1-9-0-windows.exe
The shoutcast website hasn't been updated yet.
You need Winamp v5.1 which includes the AAC+ encoder DLL.

Ross.

Newbie question - on demand streaming?
Hi,
Just thinking about migrating from Shoutcast..... I have a question on how
to make Icecast behave as I have Shoutcast running, and provide "on demand"
streaming via my web server. In other words, currently I have a link on my
webserver such as thus:
http://myserver.org:9000/content/mytrack.pls
....and the user is connected to the Shoutcast server running on port 9000
and streamed

Icecast2 admin via web.
hello people,
I have three questions now:
1 - how can I administrate (kick, accept, ban, display) the connections
to my icecast2 server via web? (as in shoutcast)
2- is posible to specify some intro.mp3 and backup.mp3 as in shoutcast
server? (or is in project?)
-- intro.mp3 is streamed to each user just before begin to stream
live music, here we can send him our broadcast ID, some

OGG streaming and Icecast2
Hi All,
I recently just took the time to play with the OGG format and compare it to
mp3..and my conclusion is:
SWEEEEET
Where can I learn about writing a source for Icecast2? I written sources for
Shoutcast..that was pretty straight forward..rip through an mp3 file and
send the bytes to shoutcast at specific intervals. OGG is VBR...so I'm
having trouble wrappign my head around how I shoudl

Winamp v5.22 / oddcast / aac+
I believe that Oddsock is using a Content Type of aacp.
Using a .aac extension with this Content Type may present a conflict.
This might actually be by design.
I will do some further testing with Winamp and report here tomorrow.
I will also double-check with the developer of Winamp for complete
clarification.
FYI, Orban Opticodec-PC allows the use of either Content Type of aac
or aacp. aac is
