Vorbis license terms? (fwd)
The license for the Vorbis audio codec was recently changed from GPL to LGPL because it's author (xiphmont@xiph.org) felt that being GPLed would hamper it's development. An argument ensued on the vorbis list about the intentions and consiquences of the GPL. Since words are being 'put in your mouth' I thought you might like the opportunity to comment. ---------- Forwarded message

Broken links in ogg HTML documentation
I looked at the HTML files in the ogg/doc directory after Monty fixed the spelling. When I view the oggstream.html file in my local cvs tree, the second bitmap file (vorbisword2.png) shows as broken (not present in cvs). Furthermore, the vorbis.html file linked to by the white-ogg.png image (also in framing.html) does not exist. It appears that the documentation has been broken when it was

I don't know enough to tell if this is pilot error on the user's part or a legit problem. Ogg Vorbis Framing
Hi all, Here are some thoughts on Vorbis framing, which may make it easier to stream Vorbis in real time. The suggested changes also move more audio data closer to the beginning of each page. A note in the Vorbis framing spec suggests a simple 'bandwidth limited' mode whereby important information is placed at the front of each page and the end of each page is discarded. When operating

Ogg123 playback bug
Heh. *I* have one to report. I just placed a file at http://www.xiph.org/xiphmont/ogg123bad.ogg decoder_example decodes this file properly. ogg123 decodes to WAV properly. However, ogg123 places a 'shhhhPOP' noise into the right channel of soundcard playback (reliably) at just after 1.3 seconds. Going back to look... ogg123 is doing that with a couple different files. In this one,

ABR or CBR?
Just in case my quotation causeed misunderstnaing... Forget about what I quoted before. Probably, by CBR, Monty meant ABR since CBR is stupidly patented and this is the reason why Vorbis has no CBR option. If you know this, it cannot be a problem but I see there is a question asking what is ABR in the mailing list. >On Thu 28 Jun 2001, 23:27:41 PDT, Monty (xiphmont@xiph.org)Wrote: >then

API cleanups, bugfixes
OK, I've been a busy beaver tonight. More commits: Finished stabilizing psychoacoustic configuration API; binary compatability stability for libvorbis/vorbisfile would be nice to have by 1.0. Moved several additional return values and internal types to int64_t; basically wherever there's an absolute fine-grained counter. I also moved the vorbisfile API to taking a 64 bit seek callback

State of Vorbis, 20000409
Hello folks, An incredible amount of work got done in the past week and a half. And I missed the arbitrary, meaningless launch deadline. Not much new there... In the past week, developers contributed plugins for Winamp (thanks Jack and Michael), and kmpg (thanks Martin). Sonique added Vorbis support (thanks Andrew), although that won't appear in the 1.5 version just released; expect to
