Vorbis Block Diagram
Hi, I have looked through the documentation available from the downloads and the web and haven't yet come across a block diagram which shows exactly how the process of going from a .wav file to a .ogg file works. Huge VQ codebooks
Hi, Does anybody know how codebooks are generated in OggVorbis encoder? We are porting oggorbis encoder on embedded platform for which VQ codebook memory is hugeeee to imagine. Floor codebooks vs. Residue codebooks
Hi, Please brace yourselves for some possibly stupid questions. Why are there only 2 codebooks for floors and many more for residue values? What makes the encoding of floor values fundamentally different from encoding residue values? Unfortunately, we didn't use the low mem branch code for CPU performance consideration, and now I find the memory use in it is huge for the embedded system. Vorbis memory consumption
I have been researching using vorbis for streaming (music and sound effects) in our xbox game. As it turns out every stream takes about 300 kb when decoding from it. This is pretty ok, if I only had to deal with one stream. Unfortunately I have to be able to handle more streams simultaneously, and 400 kb would be ideal for all stream to take as a maximum. Clean separation of encode and decode?
Is anybody interested in cleanly separating encode and decode in vorbis? I'm trying to take a stab at it myself from the head of cvs as of this morning, but it looks like a lot of files contain both encode-only and decode-only functions. Vorbis packet #3, codebooks and their large size
Hi, Am I correct in understanding that the codebooks are *not* adaptive during compression? I see that Packet #3 is written to the stream in the beginning of the encode process with no modification. If the codebooks are not adaptive, then why are codebooks included in the stream at all? Why not pass the mode type (A or B or C...) instead of all the mode info and let the decoder load it's
