vorbis 1.1 rc 1 now tagged in SVN
Hi folks,
We're gearing up to the next full release of the Vorbis codec; I've
just tagged a release candidate in SVN in order to encourage wider
testing toward final 1.1 release.
This release includes the following updates:
1) Adoption of AoTuV and other tuning work by Vorbis developers
outside of Xiph into the mainline codebase
2) New bitrate management code
3) bugfixes

Icecast source encoder that can handle http streams?
This might be a workable alternative, but it sounds like I would have
to have a connection to the remote radio station all the time, even
when I'm not actively relaying it. I have to pay for bandwidth
overages at my hosting center, so it would be better if I could avoid
streaming from the other station needlessly. It sounds like
LiquidSoap may be the way to go for me. I'm going

Streaming vorbis support
Hi!
I'm setting up a streaming audio server for the student radio here in
Stockholm.
I'm of course going to primarily use Ogg/Vorbis, but I'd like to know
how well
Ogg/Vorbis streaming is supported on different platforms. I know it works
well Windows (for example w/ recent Winamps) and Unices (XMMS, ogg123 etc.)
but I'm not so sure about other platforms, most importantly Mac-OS

Metadata format.
Hi.
Seeing as the topic appeared a while ago I was wondering: How do people feel about adopting ID3v2 for Vorbis
aswell. This would, of course, mean it's given a stream of its own and even allow interleaving.
It could be usefull, seeing as it would cut down on both initial development and software support, since a lot
(most?) audio players already support it. It could also allow for code

[PATCH 1/2] vfs: re-implement writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() and rename them
writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() is re-implemented by replacing down_read()
with down_read_trylock() because
- If ->s_umount is write locked, then the sb is not idle. That is
writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() needn''t wait for the lock.
- writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() grabs s_umount lock when it want to start
writeback, it may bring us deadlock problem when doing umount.

How to use omega to search remote back end?
Folks,
Having trouble getting this to work. OMEGA cgi is not reading my stub file properly because it is trying to read it as a directory instead of a file. Is there an easy fix? Here is a transcript.
Thanks,
OSC

Re: Still Stumbled on First things in trying, RubyOnRails
Ling,
I got the Agile Development with RoR book. As my next project was to be
a bespoke online shop, I started by trying to copy the complete tutorial
project - an online shop. I got a load of errors and had no way of
working out how to fix them... Or extend the code and write new rails
projects.
When I took out a couple of days to go through the tutorial step by
step, I ended up with a

I've stumbled across weird chain of multiple failures
Hi.
I've had a chain of a sudden unexplained problems which crippled my
tinc network.
It looks as if UDP communication between hosts in different parts of
the globe all of a sudden completely broke.
While waiting for my list subscription to be accepted, I've managed to
solve, (or perhaps mask) the problem by re-enabling PMTUDiscovery for
all hosts involved.
I still have no

Trivial patch: update README about AIX port status
Hi All.
As of now, openssh on AIX passes all regressions tests (and, yes, I
just checked!), works with privsep, bugzilla has zero open AIX-specific
bugs and IBM ship it essentially unmodified as a supported product.
I think it's beyond "support underway" :-)

Mini HowTo AIX4.3.3-AD-Winbind
Integrating SAMBA\WINBIND on AIX 4.3.3 with Microsoft Active Directory.
Overview: This document is a roadmap on how you can integrate SAMBA with
your Active Directory environment. This configuration will allow
your Samba server to appear as a member of Active Directory. It will also
allow your telnet sessions to use Active Directory for
authentication.

Traffic shaping: upload should not hurt download
Hello!
I have a small home network and I''d like to use traffic shaping because
every time someone uploads a file at full speed, my download speed drops
to ~10 KB/s. My connection is 768/128 DSL.
I found a script at http://www.knowplace.org/shaper/examples.html
$TC qdisc add dev $INTERFACE root handle 1: htb default 60
$TC class add dev $INTERFACE parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 116kbit

Need to modify WonderShaper 1.1
I''ve been using the wondershaper 1.1 with much success.
My problem is that I want to guarantee bandwidth to mail/VPN & web surfing
and make sure that I don''t break the existing script.
If not how do I make sure that I can guarantee bandwidth for mail, VPN & web
surfing without hurting ftp uploads.
Thanks

possible bug using -q -m -M combination?
Hello,
I've used oggenc with these options before:
$ oggenc -q3.0 -m 96 -M 225 somemusic.wav
But it's now encoding everything at 1.0kbps. The compression is *awesome*
but the found quality is somewhat lacking. Has something changed
recently, or am on crack (again)?
Cheers,
Geoff
Ps. I put the above example in the ifp-driver mailing list FAQ.. but now
I don't look so smart..

I stumbled on this list...
Hi All,
I am new to the list and have ordered myself a Asterisk Developer's Kit
(TDM). I am just waiting on the order from a reseller of digium.
I have yet to play around with the system when it arrives. And I
haven't looked into the manual yet. I do hope I have all the hardwares
to test first before I go and buy a sipura spa-2000 unit.
I have my sister who is living in Germany.

[LLVMdev] VLIW code generation for LLVM backend
Larin,
Thank you for telling me about this.
Our lab is planning to design a VLIW DSP and has to make a choice
between GCC and LLVM, for which I take responsibility.
As we all know that GCC's codes possess a long history and has a
somewhat bad learning curve, I suggest choosing LLVM.
It seems now the only drawback is its poor support for VLIW
architecture. And so if we can count on
