icecast
Being one who deals with one software after another, and now looking at the possibility of using icecast to stream ogg clips on my website, I would like to ask before I go much further in the matter: Is icecast likely to introduce further issues and irregularities among visitors to my site? Will using icecast pull me deeper into programming, or will it be mainly a matter of setup?

I've tried 3 times to drop a 250kb wav file on oggdrop, and oggdrop crashes each time. Is this too large of a file for oggdrop?

lack of detail for exception in ov_open
I am having one frustrating time trying to decipher why ov_read is failing in my MFC/C++ application, and I see in Google results that others have had difficulty as well. These google discussions generally involve libraries, dll's and linking options, as though there are perhaps some basic incompatibilities between ogg vorbis and win32 and/or MFC/C++. Very confusing.

I am giving serious consideration to abandoning waveOut multimedia and the wav format, for most of the audio in my C++/MFC project. However, I've never done any programming with a codec, and I still can't see how to step into Ogg Vorbis. If I convert all my wav files to ogg, there seem to be two major issues I'm facing:
1) What exactly will I replace my waveOut functions with?

Error Executing sampledec in VC++
Hi Steve, thanks for the advice. I placed the appropriate functions outside
the while statement but I still get this error at the while loop:

It looks like the same error. I've

predictability of buffer size for decoding
I am wondering if buffer size for my decoding to pcm can be predicted dependably as follows. So far, the one problem I have had is when I have played a file of only about 5k. The buffer was a little less than 10% too small. I "solved" that by padding the result with an extra 20 percent. However, I have been told that I should be able to rely on the value of ov_pcm_total.

zipping an ogg file
A recent discussion brought a question to mind: How much effect does zipping and unzipping an ogg file have on the original form?

Using Ogg for non broadcast http streaming from a web site
Hi,
I was very impressed with the progress that V1 made to 32kbps mono
quality for streaming to modem clients, so I've decided to ditch my
current dual use of WMA V8 and MP3Pro on my web site in favor of Ogg
and open standards.
I want to make it as painless as possible for people to hear the Ogg
audio samples on my site, after bit of experimenting using .m3u
redirector files and Winamp as

Can connect to example1.ogg but not example1.ogg.m3u
I have just finished setting up ices2 => icecast 2 on RH9 linux.
Have 10 or so .ogg tracks in a playlist.
Also downloaded a full copy of winamp 5.
If I point my browser at
10.1.1.101:8000/example1.ogg.m3u
then winamp opens, and just says Connecting... - it never actually plays
anything.
If I use the open URL feature in winamp and give it
10.1.1.101:8000/example1.ogg
Then winamp connects to the

m3u - mine type
Hi icecast,
I'm having a "bizarre" problem with the m3u extension.
I read somewhere to add ".m3u" in a link on a web page to make winamp
load and play the stream.
It works very fine, but ONLY in my LAN.
When I call http://192.168.1.2:8002/status.xsl, i got the "click here to
listen" which is link to the moint point + .m3u (/MyStream.ogg.m3u)
I click, winamp load

Client Woes
My problem is not with the Icecast server, but with my user's ability
to get a decent client to play the streams. I have 3 Icecast streams
created using Ices, and the mountpoints have the mp3 extension.
My users and I have observed:
1) If Quick Time is brought up by the browser, it skips and chokes on
the stream.
2) If Windows Media is brought up by the browser, it will do either of

Adding streaming MP3 files to websites
hi
i need to add some streaming media files to a website. the files are
hosted on an Icecast server and i link to them from my webserver using
.m3u files.
the files stream ok for users with Firefox/Winamp but for IE users i just
get a page with an embedded QuickTime player in it which just hangs. this
also hangs for me using Mozilla/Win2K.
i've made sure that /etc/mime.types on the

Yes, Oddcast tells me it's broadcasting test.m3u at ~32kb (I set it
this slow) and
Icecast sees this connection. It also sees when others connect, but
all attempts

Thanks.
After testing the usage of .pls instead of .m3u, couldnt get it to work
any ideas on a workaround?, m3u likes xmms but on winxp windows media likes
m3u and battles winamp
for ownership (typical windows).
Is this (.m3u) an internal mime type for icecast2?

Another person cannot hear my radio
Hi,
I created an Icecast 2.2.0 server in my Windows XP, and I am sending
audio to it by using Winamp 2.95 with Oddcast.
In the same machine that I am running Icecast, I open an Internet
Explorer window and enter http://169.254.31.193:8000/live.m3u (my
radio?s address). The radio can be heard without problems in Windows
Media Player, even while Winamp is broadcasting audio to Icecast! Up
