CD burning issues & questions
I have been having some strange results trying to burn CDs under
CentOS. I don't think they are hardware related because I have had
some success, in fact most of this usually works.
I use k3b for most of my CD and DVD writing - it seems to work fairly
well (well, except for wrecking my installation a few weeks ago when
it crashed my installation and I had to reinstall to get it back, but

App for burning CD from MP3s
I would like to be able to make an audio CD directly from some mp3
files I have. I know that isn't the best way due to the lossy nature
of the MP3 format, but that's ok for this purpose.
K3b is supposed to be able to do this, but I got an unsupported file
type error when I tried this. I installed the python-mad decoder that
is listed in the k3b document, but I don't see how to get

Burn flac to cd

Surely it would be possible to have something apply the ReplayGain to
the WAV after decoding and prior to writing them to CD... but I don't
know

oggdec.exe not using album gain stdout option
This question is mainly directed at John Edwards, I believe. I'm attempting
to use oggdec.exe in a batch conversion of ogg vorbis files for use on a
portable player. I'm using the -o option to redirect output to the LAME
encoder. So far so good.
However, I also want to do volume leveling using the replaygain tags. If I
specify track (radio) gain, everything works fine, however, when I

Die, KDE! Die! (Sticking with Gnome and Yum Conflicts)
Okay, I experimented with both KDE and Gnome, and decided I'd rather use
Gnome. After making this decision, I wanted to remove KDE, because I
like to keep my hard drive as lean as possible.
I accomplished this, or so I thought, by running:
# yum groupremove "KDE (K Desktop Environment)".
It seemed to work. Removed a whole bunch 'o stuff.
Okay, but then I wanted to install k3B,

k3b doesn't burn video disk
I create DVDs from camcorder output. In the past I've always just dragged the
AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders into k3b and the disk has burned successfully.
On this new box I tried to do the same, but k3b says that it 'Found invalid
entry in the VIDEO_TS folder (AUDIO_TS). That seems to be utter nonsense, if
it means that AUDIO_TS is inside the folder VIDEO_TS. If it doesn't,

Only 1.2x when burning DVD
Hello all
I've got a Matshita dvd-ram uj-830sx that is performing very bad on my
freshly installed CentOS 5. I'm using k3b and get a steady 1.2x which is
way too slow. I think it is supposed to do ~8x and the discs are 16x.
Any suggestions?
(hdparm -c 1 -d 1 /dev/hdc turned on 32-bit IO but only helped slightly)

Closing a multi-session disk
I have a disk which is not being recognised for reading, and I suspect that it
may be a multi-session disk which has not been closed. K3b seems to agree
with me, since it lists it as an appendable data cd. However, I can't find
any way to close the session in k3b.
I thought I remembered that it was possible to do that in xcdroast - which is
almost certainly the application that burned

CentOS 5 - Issues with multimedia
Hi,
I am having some issues with CentOS 5.
-XMMS stops playing MP3s without apparent reason. I leave it playing
some album and it will just stop whenever it feels like it. It will go
into "pause" and just stay there. Pressing on the pause button to
resume does nothing at all. I thought it could be some newly encoded
songs, but it does the same for a song that I have played 100% times.

Problem decoding .flac files
I've been having problems with Amarok and K3B, but I think it comes down
to a problem with flac. All my music and audio files are encoded in
flac format. I've ripped my CDs using KAudioCreator and using this
command to encode them (split for formatting):
flac --best -o %o --tag=Artist=%{artist} --tag=Album=%{albumtitle}
--tag=Date=%{year} --tag=Title=%{title}

vorbis-tools release soon?
Since it's been almost 2 years since vorbis-tools 1.2.0 was released,
would it be reasonable to see 1.3.0 soon? There are plenty of changes
in there that deserve to see the light of day - the ReplayGain support
in ogg123 and the vcut fixes in particular have my attention.

k3b -> cddb doesn't work
Copying a CD with k3b is no problem, except I want to include on my copy
the cbbd data (from freedb.org). I've configured k3b's cddb section
according to instructions at <http://www.freedb.org/en/faq.3.html#15>
and read every article google could find about "k3b cddb freedb.org
config", but still k3b can't manage it. Grip handles getting the cddb
data just fine.

Problem burning DVD+RW discs
Good Day--
I've been backing up my essential stuff to DVD+R discs for quite a while
with no trouble at all.
Last week I tried backing up to a DVD+RW with no trouble at all.
This week, when trying to re-write my weekly backup, CD/DVD Creator told
me it could not write to the disc because it was read-only. Is there a
bug in CD/DVD Creator or am I doing something incorrectly. Obviously,

Problem burning dvd's
I have a question on burning dvd iso's, using k3b.
I have a sony dvd rw, and I've burned cd's with now problem, including
iso's. The problem I'm having is, when I burn a dvd iso, k3b says it's a
success, but then when I re-insert the disk, the drive tries to read the
disk, but the read/write light just stays on, and the drive can't access
the disk. Am I leaving a step

non-bootable dvd image
Hi all;
I downloaded the centos 4.3 image onto my linux box and used k3b to burn a DVD iso image. It seemed to work fine.
I have an SuSE laptop and I want to setup a CentOS VM via Vmware 5.5
If I insert the dvd and boot the new vm I get 'no operating system found' It seems to be a non-bootable dvd. Is there something additional I need to do when burning the dvd image to make it

Wine CD-ROM on Mac OS X
Can Wine access DVD-RW devices natively on Mac OS X like it can on Linux? I was using Wine in Linux to run ImgBurn and it worked great, but I recently switched to Snow Leopard and I don't know how to configure this.
I tried adding the Volume that was mounted by Finder. I tried adding /dev/disk2. Neither worked.
I really like ImgBurn and do not want to abandon it if possible. Thanks.

new laptop: DVD or Blu-ray
Sorin, authoring a movie usually refers to actually creating a disc (e.g.
DVD/Blu-Ray with chapter marks and what not). It's the step that comes
after you've shot and edited the movie, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_authoring. As far as I know K3B, Bombone
DVD and DeVede are capable of authoring DVDs. K3B (version dependent)
should even be able to create Blu-Ray discs so that they
