vq diffs
please add the following diffs to the vorbis/vq dir.
- include files changed so things actually compile in new scheme
- _ogg_...alloc cleanups caught a half-dozen typos or so
- minor Makefile touchup.
(stuff is still not tested, but this will compile at least)
Would someone with cvs write access commit them for me please?

Theora mcomp tuning...
Hi there.
This patch changes the block selection to quantify error
based on the sum of the squared differences of the pixel
values rather than the sum of the absolute differences,
the former conventionally and statistically seeming like
the preferable thing to do.
The patch also const'ifies some parameters (which doesn't
affect code quality on recent GCCs but might help on older/

theora_info struct question
Hi
I'm evaluating Theora for a video communication system and would like some
info as to what the following struct members (from the theora_info structure)
do and what values one should pass to them:
If there is some documentation somewhere that I've missed, please direct me to
it.

Theora decode problem
I am trying to write a sample app that uses Theora for encoding/decoding
a network video stream. Unfortunately, I keep running into this error:
Run-Time Check Failure #3 - The variable 'MVect' is being used without
being defined.
It always happens on decryption, line 467 in decode.c. The issue is
that CodingMethod is equal to 5 (CODE_GOLDENFRAME), which doesn't

making ices under Mac OS X
After I got the libshout problem taken care of, I tried installing
installing ices. It gave the following error:
metadata.c:55: error: 'fd_set' undeclared (first use in this function)
I searched the internet for fd_set and found that select uses it,
which needs sys/time.h, which wasn't included in metadata.c, so I
added #include <sys/time.h> with the other includes, and it seems

mingw compiling problem for libogg
(i hope this is correct m.list)
Hi,
there is a small compiling problem for mingw
when compiling on libogg..
in include/ogg/os_types.h :
ogg_int64_t, ogg_int32_t, etc are defined
correctly on cygwin and MSVC/Borland
but not on mingw...
i have attached a patch that will fix
this problem (i hope it attaches
correctly)
thx, Nehal

[PATCH]
Hello,
Here is my first speedup patch. Like 10-11%. No IDCT yet.
Please feel free to comment my code or even better think about
improvements. :) I belive my routines are not so bad, maybe
one day they will be even more faster.
What needs to be optimized is the loop filter fuction. I have
no ideas now how to do it. It does not leave much space for parallel
stuff, copying memory from lot of

Theora MVect not defined in coding mode 0
Just wondering if someone can help me out...
I'm testing the core of my decoder filter (win32)... and when i get into this function:
tatic void DecodeMVectors ( PB_INSTANCE *pbi,ogg_uint32_t SBRows,ogg_uint32_t SBCols )
The decoding mode is 0.
When it attempts to do these lines....
pbi->FragMVect[FragIndex + 1].x = MVect[1].x;pbi->FragMVect[FragIndex + 1].y = MVect[1].y;

[Patch] OS/2 port
[Repost, maybe it will get noticed with a better subject]
So now beta 4 is out is there any chance you guys will have time to review
some of my patches? Here's a simple one. It just adds the standard integer
typedefs for EMX GCC. I've flattened the structure using #elif's so it doesn't
get a level deeper for every platform added but the result should be the same.
I realise

Reg. getting codewords from codelengths
Hi,
I am a bit confused on how code-words are derived from the codeword
lengths. I will appreciate if someone can point me in the correct direction.
I will take the example of an actual codebook that i found in a valid
vorbis encoded file as shown below.
[SK] +------Codebook [0] --------
[SK] Codebook Dimensions = 1
[SK] Codebook Entries = 8
[SK] Unordered
[SK] 1, 6, 3, 7, 2, 5, 4, 7,

Query on Codewords length
Hi,
We are porting the Ogg Vorbis fixed point decoder to a 24 bit fixed
point precision processor. We are trying to reduce the number of cycles
for MIPS optimization. In this process we observed that most of the
songs do not have "maximum codeword length" greater than 24 bits.
We are planning to reduce most of the double word operations (in our
case 32 bit data is stored as double

There are some missing fixes for reading floats
and a few unused variables
Now I have the postbeta2 branch behaving like the main one, at least!

[PATCH] fix minor typo in return type of op_serialno()
Attached small patch fixes a minor typo in return type of op_serialno()
i.e. changes ogg_uint32_t to opus_uint32 to match the header.
One doesn't usually hit this, but if one actually does (e.g. when using
a differently configured config_types.h with a long vs int conflict in
int32 typedef) it results in a build failure.

Re: libogg2 branch->trunk (deadline: 5/30)
I have no objection to the API in itself, but could the API and structure
only use the ogg fundamental types
(like ogg_int32_t) or even better the C99 official types (like int32_t)
because at the moment there is
a real mix of types used for the occurences of serialno (long, int,
ogg_uint32_t), beos, eos, ...
Andr?

tiny cygwin bug (& solution)
In the file os_types.h (ogg/include/ogg) cygwin (newest version) complains
about some error on line 43. Apparently "typedef unsigned _G_int32_t
ogg_uint32_t;" is an illegal line .. Anyone have any idea why ? .. Anyway,
if "unsigned _G_int32_t" is replaced by "_G_uint32_t", cygwin compiles
happily (i attached a cvs diff-file that does this).
I still have problems

libogg2 branch->trunk (deadline: 5/30)
Ok guys and gals
Monty assigned me as libogg2 maintainer a few weeks ago, with the
provision that I get consensus on API changes from everyone. In order
to facilitate discussion, and to "move on" vs letting this stalemate
hold development at a stand still, I'm setting an initial deadline of
this comming Monday, May 30th.
If nobody has a strong objection why these API changes
