Defining function in template files?
Hi,
Is it possible to define a function in a template file?
For example, I thought it might be a good idea to define my Debian
systems'' /etc/apt/sources.list files based on what level of stability
and freeness a system should have. So I have this puppet code:
#---------- apt.pp ----------------
define apt-sources-list

OGG --> MP3 conversion app?
hello all
does anyone know of a utility convert OGG to MP3 and prehapes MP3 to OGG?
While i use ogg for everything on my computer, my discman only plays MP3
files, so a nice program where i can drag and drop folders to reencode
to MP3 would be a very nice thing to have indeed. Kinda like oggdrop but
mp3drop.
if there isn't i might just attempt to write one (i'm just 1st year

If I'm going from .wav --> .ogg -q9 --> .ogg -q7 do I suffer any ill effects
or is it just like going from .wav --> .ogg -q7 ??
I ask because I think I want to go down a bit more as the size of the files
are around 10mb or so. I can get them from source again and go straight to
- -q7 if need be.

Suspected GPL violation by Erightsoft "super"
Hi guys,
the SUPER codec by Erightsoft
http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html
contains lots of GPL and LGPL code:
mplayer, ffmpeg, x264, musepack, theora,
which they admit and give credit for.
Still, their product is proprietary,
and they insist on it. I tried to get
the source through their forum, but they
of course won't give it:

Vorbis bistream definition / separation from ogg
Hi,
I have some questions:
1) in the sources of the encoder_example (and of course in oggenc.c,
too) I see a lot of dependance
on ogg. I want to get totally rid of ogg and use the vorbis bitstream
alone.
From this reason stems the second question:
2) is there a definition of the vorbis bitstream somewhere? I don't need
to know every single
detail, just the informations necessary to

R help search and Java(tm)?
I found this great search
source("http://www.statslab.cam.ac.uk/~djw1005/Stats/Interests/search.R")
helpHTML()
Has (or will) this become the standard search method?
Is R 'Free Software'? The dependence on Java seems a bit of a pain for
'freeness'.
Did the above make it into CRAN?
Cheers,
Dan.

Vorbis determined to be as good as MPC at 128 kbps!!
I am very happy to announce that the aoTuV tuning of Ogg Vorbis has tied
with Musepack at first place in the 128 kbps listening test. It has
beat iTunes AAC, Lame MP3, ATRAC3, and WMA standard. :)

Archival quality for music
This mail depends upon the fact that I don't have a couple of good
earphones ;-)
I read in the site that q=6 is a very high quality, but does it contain
perceivable differencies from the original? (for 95% of people, of course).
I also found q=6 to produce files slightly bigger (1/10 bigger) than those
produced with lame VBR q=2 (about 192 bps on average). I always thought

How to choose quality
Hi
I made a CD-backup with cdparanoia | oggenc and I tried to use different values of -q listening to the effect by cdparanoia | oggenc -o - | mplayer -. The best quality was 8 -- why? Oggenc version was the precompiled 1.0 from Mandrake 9.

Ogg compared to MPC and AAC
In researching Ogg Vorbis, I have started to become aware of many other
audio formats I never knew about, such as FLAK. Well, today I have become
aware of two other formats I hadn't heard of before: MPC and AAC. Can anyone
tell me what they think of these formats in comparison to Ogg Vorbis?
If anyone considers this Off-Topic, please feel free to email me personally.

ABX at q8
Hello!
First of all, 100x thanks to Monty and colleagues: you have done an
excellent job! I just didn't believe my ears when I first tested Oggenc
1.0 at q0 to q1 - it sounds AMAZINGLY GOOD !!!
But as HDD drives are getting larger and cheaper, most of us move toward
higher quality settings ......... I use q8, because:
- I was able to ABX some test samples up to q4.99
- at q8 Ogg is still

[ARM] Register pressure with -mthumb forces register reload before each call
If I'm understanding what's going on in this test correctly, what's happening is:
* ARMTargetLowering::LowerCall prefers indirect calls when a function is called at least 3 times in minsize
* In thumb 1 (without -fno-omit-frame-pointer) we have effectively only 3 callee-saved registers (r4-r6)
* The function has three arguments, so those three plus the register we need to hold the

Audo quality problem
Hello.
First of all, thanx for that great codec. I would encode all my music with Ogg Vorbis in the future, if it hadn't been for some samples I encoded for test purposes: Everything was great as long a I used "natural" sounds/music, but certain pieces of synthesized music (specially techno) contained very audible artifacts even at high bitrates.
So I just went on using mp3 for

Theora file size
Hi
I was surprised with size of Theora files and thought
of feedback.
Following 1minute duration Theora and Xvid files were
made from a y4m file. The resolution is 1280x720:
1. Xvid 17MB
2. Ogg/Theora Q7 31MB
3. Ogg/Theora Q8 38MB
4. Ogg/Theora Q9 49MB
5. Ogg/Theora Q10 61MB
The Xvid file was made using mencoder by 2 passes with
