Question about volume level recording in Ogg Vorbis
Hi I recorded many hundred of CDs in Ogg Vorbis with exactly the same parameters. I can see very big difference of volume level from one CD to another when I play it onto my computer or my portable device (iRiver HP120). So, I have two questions : * Is the reason of this fact is that it's depends on the volume level at burning time of the original CD ? If not, what is the reason ? * Is

Does Ogg Vorbis support 5.1 surround?
Hello everyone! Please bear with me, I am a complete audio-newbie, and I apologise if I am asking a question that I should know. As most of you all know, DVD's have 5.1 audio, and I want to preserve that in my voribs files. So, to ask the question : Does it support Surround sound? Thank you very much!

Question about Ogg files Structure
Hi, I bought an iRiver HP-120 which can read ogg files (via a hard drive). Many people experiment that reading ogg file decrease the baterry charge more quickly than with mp3 at the same bitrate. The only raisonnable reason of that mysterious thing is that reading ogg file is not sequential onto hard drive, and the hard drive head must move more than for reading an mp3 at the same quality, and

Scaling the database for write intensive application
I am developing a large scale financial application which is going to be very intensive write-wise, and use a lot of transactions. I can see how the the web and application servers can be scaled and load balanced quite easily, but not the database. The setups I have looked at so far seem to deal with coping with a lot of reads, and minimal writes - this maybe because they are largely content

Fast and reliable host for database + AJAX intensive Rails application.
Hi I''m trying to convice a client to use Rails for a new commercial web application. At the demo/preliminary stages, our monthly hosting budget is 20$-40$ (naturally it would increase with consumer demands). We need a fast, reliable host at that cost range. The application has to be fast, especially the AJAX parts. Also there''s a lot of database-querying involved, so the

ocfs2 crash on intensive disk write
Hi, I'm getting system (and eventually cluster) crashes on intensive disk writes in ubuntu server 10.04 with my OCFS2 file system. I have an iSER (infiniband) backed shared disk array with OCFS2 on it. There are 6 nodes in the cluster, and the heartbeat interface is over a regular 1GigE connection. Originally, the problem presented itself while I was doing performance testing and

non-cpu intensive sleep in R?;
Hi, Is there a function similar to C's usleep in R? usleep(10000); from the man pages: The usleep() function will cause the calling thread to be suspended from execution until either the number of real-time microseconds specified by the argument useconds has elapsed or a signal is delivered to the calling thread and its action is to invoke a signal-catching function or to terminate the

Music on Hold: CPU Intensive Monster
OK. So I did a test last night. All of asterisk's threads where using 0.0% CPU. I made 1 call to our call queue. CPU jumped to average of 9% and stayed around that for the 2 minutes I was in the queue just listening to music on hold. MOH is in MP3 format and I'm using format_mp3. Phone was linksys PAP2-NA using G729. Can I reasonably assume that the 9% was decoding the MP3, then

best centos server setup for graphics intensive kvm vms?
You'd need to run virt-manager GUI somehow to manage the VMs. If you run Fedora already on another machine then you can just yum install it and use it from there. You might run into a problem though with your Libreelec VM as you'd need to enable GPU passthrough for it and for that you need Intel VT-d or AMD-Vi enabled in the BIOS. If your laptop is old it may not have that feature.

best centos server setup for graphics intensive kvm vms?
Running a VM with something graphical on top of something else graphical is one thing. What you want is to dedicate the GPU to the Libreelec VM, so it displays directly to the screen (gpu) so it can properly use hardware acceleration and so on, but you can't do that without VT-d/AMD-Vi afaik. -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! best centos server setup for graphics intensive kvm vms?
Hallo list I've been running fedora for donks as my production laptop os, but now I want to set up one of those old laptops to run as a home server running a number of home type vm appliances.
