voice -only broadcast
Hi
I'm actually running an icecast server to broadcast voice .
I'm not broadcasting music at all .
Would it be better for me to use speex ?
Is there an icecast-like broadcast server for speex ?
Would there be a way to read the braodcast stream under windos and MacOs and
Linux ? ( Winam or else ... )
Thenks inadvance ...

Win32 player needed to put speex into widespread use
I am eager to begin using speex for downloadable audio on my church's
website - but first a good win32 player is needed given that windows has
a 94% domination...
Are there any plans for an up-to-date speex player for windows? (that
winamp plugin is hopelessly old) Building this into zinf (fmr. freeamp)
might be an option, but their code is one big mess.

Speex (source) client?
As you know, Winamp relies on the file extension to know what input
plugin to utilize for the audio decoding. The input plugin for .ogg
files (in_vorbis.dll) needs to understand the other ogg container
formats but it doesn't as it is a vorbis only decoder.
So the only solution is for Ogg Speex to have a different extension so
this can be appended to the mountpoint, and an input plugin

Speex client?
Hello,
On the announcement page for Icecast 2.3 it mentions
"Streaming support for ogg speex, ogg flac, ogg midi".
I've googled around and not found any free clients that
support streaming speex. I looked at svn for libshout2 and
it doesn't seem to support speex and skimming through
the list archives I only see mention of speex last February,
which seemed to indicate it would

Speex test cases? and XMMS speex plugin

Yes, I mailed the web master and Jens about it a few days ago. I
have the version I'm currently using which was based on an old
version of Jens and has streaming support. It's a bit queer on
seeking, and crashes XMMS if you seek while in pause, but it

Speex test cases?
I'm trying to get speex to encode a bit faster, mainly by rewriting a few
functions in SSE and translating the GCC __asm__ to VC __asm.
There's 2 functions I'm targeting, first is vq_nbest which consumes 40% of
the time at high complexity and split_cb_search_shape_sign. Which consumes
just over 30%. I've split out two functions from:
cb_search_precompute_energy - loop at the

Yet another vf question...
Should I ov_clear a failed ov_open/test/test_open call?
The xmms plugin does an fclose on failure, and that seems to work, but I
thought I ought to know for certain.
(An observation: I think the quantity of questions and bugs raised along the
lines of "I did open file, ov_open, ov_read, close file, open another file,
ov_read, and it exploded", or "I tried to make vorbisfile go

Official GUI Speex player
One thing that is keeping Speex from being adopted is a lack of GUI
players. I think that Speex could benefit from an offial cross-platform
GUI player. The goal of the player should be to be stable, to the
point(no fluff like visualisations, playlists, an equaliser, etc.), self
contained(no external .DLLs, etc), and to be small(500k or less) so that
people with modems don't have to wait

hello I'm trying to figure out if anyone's accomplished putting someone on
hold with a hardphone that doesn't have a hold button or multiple lines. I'm
thinking transferring the caller to a specific extension or something...is
this possible? Has it been done?
