[support@mydivaplayer.com: Re: Ogg Vorbis support? -=[2214]=-]
I'm not subscribed to this list, but I have been reading
the archive online for awhile now. I thought this forward may be
of interest. It sounds like we _might_ have Vorbis capable
players in the near future! :)
Any more word on support from iRiver? The hardware URL
has not been updated since they were supposedly shipping Vorbis
capable units to Xiph.

Any encoding speedups ?
Hi!
I think some more speed at encoding would be very welcome.
So, is there any work on faster vrobis encoders ?
For x86 ( windows, linux ) platform ?
Currently I use OggDrop , which uses ogg library 1.0final, on
Pentium III 866 MHz and Athlon 900 MHz.

this. but it gives me the following error when i'm trying to cut my
file:

most pointless mentioning/advertising of a format in a film i've ever seen
In the recent muppets christmas film, god (played by whoopi goldberg- or howevr u spell her name), mentioned converting her entire album collection (every album ever recorded. ever) to mp3 files.
Now that is the most pointless use of advertising the inferior mp3 format i've ever seen.
Now that we've started covering the use of vorbis in games, anyone spotted any reference (no matter how

Rhubarber (advanced peeler)
Hi all,
[For the uninitiated: a "peeler" is a program that transforms
a Vorbis stream into a smaller, (somewhat) lower quality Vorbis
stream, and does so quickly, by just throwing out some data.]
After having prototyped several peelers that aim to peel
to a certain filesize, or to a certain quality, with mixed
success, I've now taken a different route: a peeler that

beta firmware for Neuros available
For the two or three of you who are subscribed to the mailing list that
*haven't* heard already... from the blurb on Slashdot:
"Xiph.org has made a beta release of firmware with Ogg Vorbis support for the
Neuros portable music player. You can grab the firmware from the Neurosetta
site. Note that this beta release only plays Vorbis files, and may skip on
very high quality files, like

portupgrade and PHP
Hello,
When I run portupgrade -ra and PHP needs upgrading I am faced with
having to select all the options I want PHP compiled with (again). I
hate this.
How can I continually compile PHP with the same options as the last time?
Thanks!

docs question
hello,
i have a question about the documentation:
oggenc --help says:
-b, --bitrate Choose a nominal bitrate to encode at. Attempt
to encode at a bitrate averaging this. Takes an
argument in kbps. This uses the bitrate management
engine, and is not recommended for most users.

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED making remote directory
Vital Stats - AMD 64-bit CPU, Ubuntu 7.0.4 (Feisty Fawn), Samba 3.0.24,
Win2003 AD Domain
If I've left anything out, please feel free to ask. This *was* working
yesterday until my Kerberos ticket expired. (growl) Anyway, now that
Kerberos appears to be working again, all of my users still only have
read access - no write access. The "temp" test works fine. Exactly as

Problem with Defaulting Groups and AD
Vital Stats - AMD 64-bit CPU, Ubuntu 7.0.4 (Feisty Fawn), Samba 3.0.24,

I'm not sure how to make it stop doing it. When a user "logs in" they
get an automatically assigned group of "domain users" which doesn't
actually exist in any of the file permissions. I've tried setting group

Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris.
But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s.
Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ?
Is hotplug supported ?
Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ?
Thanks,

ssh-keygen can't recognize its own keys?
I'm trying to move from SSH1 to OpenSSH 2.9.9p2, under Solaris 8. Initial
setup and testing seems to work... including the generation of a new
RSA key. The key was created with "ssh-keygen -t rsa" and a passphrase;
nothing unusual.
I can SSH between machines, both running 2.9.9p2, and debug messages show
that this file is being correctly read (I think). It prompts me for the
