high bitrate quality?
Hi all,
I used vorbis several years ago because of its freeness and VBR, but
after playing ha.org and getting an mp3-capable discman, I switched to
APS and API mp3 encoding.
Now, I am liking musepack a lot, but the flexibility is more "there" for
the vorbis format, including players, tagging comments (lyrics in the
comments - killer idea!), etc....
However, I am a bit worried

Gigabit Samba
I'm trying to run Samba on a gigabit network.
On the server side I've got Samba 2.2.1 running on an sgi Origin200 with a
gigabit ethernet card plugged into a gigabit switch, and the files are being
served off a fibrechannel raid array. On the client side I have a windows 2k
box with a gigabit card plugged into the same switch. Both machines and the
switch claim that everything is

I have an odd OpenSSH compatablity issue
I am on Solaris 2.8 with openssh 2.3.0p1 and openssl 0.9.6.
The remote machine is running ssh.com 1.2.20 and Solaris 2.6.
I think the problem has to do with the 1.2.20 KeyRegeneration, because in
the next hour I will beable to get into the machine ok with openssh and
then later in the day I will not beable to ssh in again for another hour.

Can I force yum to only use http.
Our outsourced IT department has decided to use white listing on the firewalls for outbound ftp. I was given a list of sites our lab had accessed via ftp and eventually tracked them down to Linux machines running yum. They are all CentOS 5 or 6 with a smattering of 7. It is impractical to list all the possibilities since they change on a regular basis. Also any 3rd party repos we need are

[LLVMdev] Instruction pattern type inference problem
I have a back end which has both scalar and vector registers that
alias each other. I'm having a problem generating the ISel from
tablegen that appears only when a vector register class is declared
to contain integer vectors. At that moment tablegen doesn't seem to
be able to infer integer types in patterns that it was able to
before, but I'm not clear on why that's the

Transfer rate issues with OpenSSH SFTP Server - Verified on Mac OS X 10.2.X and FreeBSD 5.0
First, I have what I consider to be decent experience with SSH, and have
been running VanDyke's VShell SSH server for considerable time under
Windows 2000/XP. Recently, I have been working with Mac OS X and FreeBSD
and have been using OpenSSH 3.4p1 The sftp server seems to have major
issues when serving files, specifically, if one data stream is used the
transfer rates fluxuate between 80 and

I'm also unaware of anyone developing on BSD like that. Linux of course
and a smattering of folks on OSX doing the odd thing.
Cheers,

RHEL 6 and ActiveRecord issues
All,
I am trying to install puppet master version 2.7.13 on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 6, and utilize stored configs.
I followed the guide here: http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/1/wiki/Using_Stored_Configuration
When I run puppet --noop on one of the clients, I get the following
error:

actionmailler corrupting emails
Hi All,
I have a problem with actionmailer corrupting my html emails. It is
adding the character ''3D'' before any quotes (single or double) in my
source and smattering ''='' characters throughout as well. Very
strange. Here''s an example from one of the emails:

Libreswan PEM format
Sorry but I have looked for over two days. Trying every command I could find.
There is obviously a misunderstanding somewhere.
After generating a key pair with
ipsec newhostkey --configdir /etc/ipsec.d --output /etc/ipsec.d/my.secrets
I exported to a file with
ipsec showhostkey --ipseckey > file
The man pages says
ipsec showhostkey outputs in ipsec.conf(5) format,

File owner SID instead of name showing for one user
Hello,
I recently migrated all data and user accounts from our old Samba file
server to a new (Samba 3.4.0 on Unbuntu 9.10) one. Everything is working
fine except that there is one user whose SID is showing in the "Owner"
column of Windows Explorer instead of the user name.
It's not a big problem, but the user is uncomfortable with it and I'd
like to know why it's

Re-encoding digital broadcast to Ogg?
I think everyone here will appreciated that re-encoding an already encoded/
decoded audio track is a bad idea and can create pretty bad artefacts in
recording.
Whilst watching 'Later with Jools Holland' last Friday, India Arie gave a
very good performance which I thought I would have been good to keep, I then
realised that since I was watching via digital TV that this audio will have

I know that the width of the menu box, it's position from the left and it's
height can be changed. It would be nice to beable to have it centered in

Samba password issue
Is it possible to have the users password on the Unix end to be
different to that of the Windows client user.
Example:
I have a Windows 2000 user who logs onto his PC as "fredblogs" with a
password of "password1".
On the Unix Samba end I have the user "fredblogs" setup with a password
of "password2".
I am then unable to access the Unix server, if I reset

Win 2000 Prof in workgroup with samba 2.2.2
Hi folks,
this is the problem:
we have several Win2000 PRO SP2 working in workgroup (not joining the
domain) with a unique local user.
The server Samba acts with security = user, with no encrypted password
and keeps the username/password of people who want to connect to it.
People log on the W2000 with the same username/password kept into samba
server but when we map a network drive, the samba
