Easier OggDrop version
Hi.
I think that the vorbis team should use this version of OggDrop RC3 as the
official OggDrop RC3, because the menu interface is easier to use (& you can
see what kind of mode you have chosen).

Transcoding Ogg streams?
Hi.
I'm confused about one of the statements on
http://www.vorbis.com/faq.psp#unique
I have a server using Ices2 as the source. I provide it with Ogg's
encoded at quality 5, and I get it to provide lower bitrate streams like
so:
ices.xml
--snip--
<instance>
--snip--
<encode>
<samplerate>44100</samplerate>

[patch] sftp-server basepath [yet another]
Hi,
I made this simple path to make sftp-server restricted to a basepath!
This was done because use sshfs [wich base is sftp-server] to allow people
access medias [ cdrom, dvdrom, floppy, usb] from x-terms.
Those x-terms [ diskless] does not have all users, so we share a single user
and a DSA empty passphrase, with some acl scipts at .ssh/authorized keys.
Main usage of this patch is to NOT

Bitrate peeling
Hi all,
I recently started to study the Ogg Vorbis codec and found an interesting
feature called bitrate peeling [1]. Do you know where I can find more
information on this topic? E.g., how is the actual peeling being
implemented, what are the performance results in terms of resulting quality,
what are the requirements for bitrate peeling (can it be applied to any ogg
vorbis stream), ...?

the field ttl in struct referral doesn't work
In samba source code, the file "source\include\msdfs.h" defines a struct named referral. In this struct, there is a field named ttl which is used to decide how long should client cache referral, and this field uses constant REFERRAL_TTL(#define REFERRAL_TTL 600) as default. My problem is when i set REFERRAL_TTL to be 10, it doesn't work.

data in form of a date
Dear all,
I often use dates and times in analyses. I just can't figure out how to
format my date or time column in R. So, apparently R sees the date as
something other than date (character). Let's say I am opening a CSV
file, one of the columns of which is a date or time. How do I specify
that when opening the file?
Thanks for the help,
Jim

had a thought on peeling last night
I was up late last night, and i had a thought on peeling that would probably provide 100% accurate peeling data to a decoder, but take a maximum of 1101 times normal time to encode (taking into account the range from q-1 to q10 ).
ay you want to encode a track at q10, but you want it to be peelable.
the 1101 encoder would encode from the source at every quantifiable level (since there are 2

A bitrate peeling attempt
Given all this talk of peeling lately, I thought I'd try out a method
I've been thinking about for a while now. It goes something like this:
* Peeling is achieved by dropping some of the residue.
* The encoder indicates how much of the residue to retain (e.g a number
of stages, 3 bits in the stream per packet, non-standard!).
* The decoder (peeler) copies the contents of packets except

Fwd: Re: Clarification on pshycho-acoustic in Vorbis (your non-MP3 guide)
After reading http://mp3.radified.com/mp3.htm I sent Rad an explanation of
some things as I understand them. He liked it and posted it on his site
(still unlinked, use the URL below). Can somebody with better
understanding of psycho-acoustic terms and the vorbis model check it and
comment on it? In particular I didn't know how vorbis handles
quantization noise. If you reply with

Embed Fonts in All EPS files inside a Directory
Hi List, I would like to embed some fonts (AFM format) on 324 eps files
produced by a R loop, I’m able to do so one-by-one with the following
command:
embedFonts('C:/Users/Rodrigo/Documents/UFPR/Micropaleontologia/Potiguar/Cata
logo/Mapas/EPS/Example.eps',
outfile='C:/Users/Rodrigo/Documents/UFPR/Micropaleontologia/Potiguar/Catalog

Ogg Vorbis bitrate peeling bounty on Launchpad
Hello all,
Just a quick note to let you all know that I have placed a bounty on
Lauchpad to get bitrate peeling added to Vorbis. It is a feature that I
think we would all like to have, and would probably pay something to
get, but it hasn't been done.
My request to you is to add to the bounty. I have seeded it with US$20,
which is not enough to motivate a developer to get it done, but I am a

North Arrow (.png file) on a Map
Hi list.
I would like to know how do I insert a North arrow, stored as a png file in
my computer, in a map? I found lots of post asking similar things, one of
them mentioned the pixmap package. The map was done using map() and
shapefiles (the code is below). I’m using the pixmap () and addlogo()
functions. Well I can import the png with pixmap() function (I guess, once
there’s no error message),

Hi,
Aditya, I took a look but I was hoping for a simpler example. And something
that is more "usual". As Florian mentioned, these branches are on undefs.
But thank you.

Question Re: Bitrate Peeling
Monty,
You helped me out quite a bit the other day, but I just wanted to make sure
I understand something. The "ideal" way to do bit rate peeling is to have
the encoder set the file up to be conducive to the peeling process, and the
streamer would be the device that actually does the peeling. Am I correct
in assuming, then, that the decoder would think that the file it is

I have some confusion with the use of if - else. Let's say I have a

try.Silent
In an email to the help list John Chambers
wrote about the function helpSilent which is in the methods package,
pointing out that there is no restrictive reason to be in this package.
I did not know about this function and just incorporate it in several
functions of the geoR package where a much less elegant solution was
being used.
I guess other packages could use it as well.
Therefore,

bitrate peeling question
Hi:
A friend asked me a question that I was unable to answer, so I'm posting it
here.
Can files created by the beta4 encoder be peeled down when that becomes
available, or is the ability to encode peelable files also not implemented?
My friend wants to know if they should switch over now or hold off until
this becomes possible.
Geoff.

Scalable Extension
With the newly released SVC (Scalable Video Coding) of H264 I was wondering
if Ogg/Theora has any plans of following suit or are there plans to
implement a better solution? the closest to SVC I have seen at Xiph is
bitrate peeling but that never happened and to date does not seem to be in
any TODO list.
thanks,
