Hi, If this is a redundant post I apologize. I am running 2.4.20 on what has been
a very stable Athlon machine for months, tried to move a 2 GB file from an ext2
partition to an ext3 and kjournald crashed. Here are the last reminants of my

The BBC tests Ogg Vorbis on the net!
An article I saw on the french news site http://www.linuxfr.org says that
the BBC is testing streaming with Vorbis on his web servers. Apparently, it
works very well with XMMS. Vorbis is growing in popularity and it's a good
thing!

Major security vulnerability in the latest Rails 1.1.5
Hi,
I think there is still a major vulnerability exists in the latest Rails 1.1.5.
The problem is in the routing.rb file and safe_load_paths method.
Because of the erroneous regexp it is possible to perform a DOS attack
on any rails application.
To reproduce:
1. start your application
2. use this url: http://localhost:3000/debug
Routing module will load standard debug.rb script which stops a

>>I realize that I may have unintentionally been misleading you by leaving some information out. That error report from
ogginfo keeps going, repeating the same 3 errors (as above) over and over again. It ends after a
stream_truncated=true, not giving a final header_integrity=fail. (Perhaps because there's not another packet?) Then it
reports a total playtime of 0.

Thought some of you guys might like to know that that it looks like the
BBC are trialing Rails. I got a DB error when trying to connect to their
prototype cataloging system the other day.

Cessation of BBC Ogg streams
Permission to stream BBC Radio 1 & 4 24x7 ran out today. Radio 4
have said we can go for another week (so that's fine for the first
LotR episode), but after that it will cease too.
If you enjoyed them, and want to see them return, then all feedback is
appreciated - send to webweaver@bbc.co.uk.
Some on-demand stuff is still available, and still linked from

The future for open streaming solutions at the BBC?
Hi all,
I recently emailed a query to the maintainers of BBC London website
(http://bbc.co.uk/london) asking if they had any plans to move away from
Real Server as a means for streaming audio and Video of their live radio
and tv broadcasts to something a bit more cross platform like OGG/Vorbis
or even MP3's. The reply I received was :
"I'm afraid we only plan to use Real Player

possible that he runs a Samba server to assists a non-technical wife

Problem running BBC Doctor Who game in Linux Mint Debian
Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 Laptop running 64bit Linux Mint Debian Edition 201109.
The laptop has ATI Radeon M92 (HD 4500 / 5000) graphics.
This is based on Debian testing and because at present there is no WINE in the testing repositories, I have installed 1.3.30 from:
http://frickelplatz.de/debian/
This seems to work fine: I can run LTspiceIV perfectly.
However ...
I have tried

precisely, users not keen on IT). As I understand, placement of

have decent open-source counterparts, and they are better fit for an
rsync manual. Or, if from any reason proprietary software is preferred

On the total nondisclosure of the 8/9/06 security vulnerability
Dear Rails team,
The handling of the recent vulnerability in Rails has proven somewhat
problematic for us. We have recently adopted Rails as our web platform
of choice; previously, we used J2EE. We love Rails. We hate J2EE. We
don''t want to go back. It took a lot of effort and convincing to get the
management teams of our various projects to sign off on the use of
Rails. The

Help!!! Windows XP Joining Samba 2.2.2 Domain
Okay, I'm at the end of my amazing internet research skills, and now I'm
having to offer this problem up to the mailing lists.
In a fit of stupidity I've just upgraded my machine from 98 to XP
(purely for research ;), and now I need to add it to the domain.
My root user on the Linux box running samba is called guB~b1n5 and the
Linux box is configured to use PAM and SSL, I've
