Which encoder?
I was going through some of my old CD-Rs and I found some really old Vorbis files. They sound pretty decent though the bitrate is really high(~200 kbps). Their vendor string is Xiphophorus libVorbis I 20000508. I looked on http://wiki.xiph.org/XiphHistory but that doesn't list any encoders from June 08, 2000. Could these files come from a pre-Beta1 encoder? It also says it was

Slowdown on lots of motion
I'm playing the "Honey" movie (both Honey-small and Honey-large) and I notice significant slowdown during periods of lots of motion (when the camera shakes, when the first man hops into bed, when people turn around and approach the camera, etc.). The audio plays smoothly all the time but when there is a lot of motion, the picture freezes and resumes when there's less motion.

Fixed Quantizer - Fixed Quality

Ratecontrol doens't know anything about "quality". It > will try to > reach more-or-less CBR. > > But somehow this is not a fair comparison, because

Manpages
Here is patch with manpages for ogg123(1), mp3tovorbis(1) and vorbize(1). Manpages are in pod format, because it is the most readable man source, and are compiled by pod2man. all and clean for man/ work. Install and uninstall for man/ seem to work. Manpages are GPLed of course. <HR NOSHADE> <UL> <LI>text/plain attachment: manpages.diff </UL> -------------- next part

Distributed ogg encoded
I am building a small cluster out of some PCs I have laying around and I was wondering if anybody knew of an ogg encoder that could run distributed. I know that the performance will most likely be less than my desktop machine but its just for fun. Changing &quot;What do all the names mean?&quot;
This question seems a little vague. I propose the following change (or something like it): <p>Q: What do all the names mean? <p>A: "Ogg" refers to the Ogg project, a blanket project designed to create a fully open multimedia system. "Ogg" also refers to a general container file format that can hold any type of multimedia data. "Vorbis" is the name of

Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex, Ogg FLAC
Now that FLAC has officionally joined the Xiph family, there are three different free audio codecs, which can be stored/transported using the ogg container. Would it be possible to create an API and/or a library that would cover them all? If my understanding of the situation is correct, if an application wants to support vorbis, speex and flac, it has to use three different interfaces.

Ices2 compile error - streaming ogg!
Actually, you don't have to check out ogg and vorbis from CVS. You can just use Vorbis 1.0, if you like. ices was updated to use the Vorbis 1.0 encoding API, and that is the source of the errors the original poster was seing. --- Stan Seibert <p>On Wed, 2002-07-31 at 15:23, D. Conversion API for computer telephony systems (Dialogic Mu-law wa v format to PCM encoded wav format)
I am working on a project involving the conversion of a Mu-law sound format (Dialogic Mu-law wav format) file into a standard PCM encoded wav file format. Could somebody tell me if this feature is supported in the Vorbis software and if there is any source code available that performs this task. If not, does anybody know of any resources that might provide me with this tools or information.

vorbis-tools reorganziation and UTF-8 stuff
I just moved a bunch of shared code (like 4 copies of getopt) into a share directory within vorbis-tools. I also moved the UTF-8 code from oggenc into the vorbis-tools/share directory as well so that it could be used by all of the tools, since they all need to handle UTF-8 comments correctly. Header files for the shared code are stored in vorbis-tools/include. I have already fixed vorbiscomment

The Xiph.org Foundation Needs You!
I am looking for someone to continue the Ogg Traffic tradition. Ogg Traffic is a weekly update and status report about what's happening with Ogg development as well as other related projects and interesting bits of news (Xiph, Speex, Icecast, etc.). Stan Seibert, who resurrected OT recently, is busy with Real Life activities that prevent him from writing an OT (http://www.vorbis.com/ot/)

ogg123 volume?
Hi, I need to adjust the output volume from ogg123 the same way that mpg123 has the "-f n change scalefactor [32768]" option. I need to do this within ogg123, instead of alternatives that involve pipes, such as piping the output to sox. I do not believe that this is currently possible in ogg123, and I'm looking for some suggestions as to how it can be accomplished by modifying

beta firmware for Neuros available
For the two or three of you who are subscribed to the mailing list that *haven't* heard already... from the blurb on Slashdot: "Xiph.org has made a beta release of firmware with Ogg Vorbis support for the Neuros portable music player. You can grab the firmware from the Neurosetta site. Note that this beta release only plays Vorbis files, and may skip on very high quality files, like
