How do you pronounce 'Ogg Vorbis'?
Greets,
Every linux user that sets up a sound card using sndconfig heres Linus
pronouncing "Linux" - I confess that's how I learned to pronounce it
right, until then I prononced it 'l-EYE-nucks' - I was wondering -
what's the correct pronounciation of 'Ogg Vorbis'?
I pronounce it 'OOOg' (a long 'O' sound or a portuguese 'U' if you

RC2 and bass
Well, this may not be unique to RC2. I believe this is the first time I
have noticed it. It is definitely the first time I have vorbis encoded
this song.
Try encoding They Might Be Giants - Istanbul. Go to offset around 50
seconds. It should say "Maybe people just like it better that way."
However, the maybe is pretty bassy (low pitch) and is just gone.
Anyway, RC2 is so much

Hi,
I've been off this list for a while now so I lost touch with ogg vorbis
development. Could somebody please bring me up to date?
As I take, the current RC2 release contains full 1.0 feature support (incl.
channel coupling). Does this mean I can now start encoding all of my music as
a ~128kbit/s ogg bitstream without fear of reduced

Mime types
Hello,
Does anyone know how to configure the mime type for ogg on Apache (on a
FreeBSD box)? I added application/x-ogg to the mime.types file in Apache,
but Nutscrape6.2 and Mozilla 0.9.5 just show the file in txt format, IE5x on
the other hand kindly asks me what to do with the file (open it or download
it). I also added the mime-type in Nutscrape62 and Mozilla and added Winamp
as helper app

bassrumble, take two
Hi,
maybe this is of interest for someone out there. I found that taking the
difference between an original sample and its decoded Vorbis counterpart
is a cool way to mangle sounds (especially voice samples get a nice
weird touch :] ).
A side effect is that the result is not only exactly what information
the encoder omits, it also contains things that it adds to the sample
(artifacts). Leaving

lowpass option (Was: RE: channel coupling in rc2)
I would very much like a lowpass option because for FM radio broadcasting I
don't want to encode frequencies above 15khz. I'm waiting for this option
before switching to ogg from mp3(lame).

[faq?] Portable players supporting ogg vorbis
Hi,
I got into the mood of acquiring a portable music player, and I want to
"vote with my dollars" and choose among the players that can play ogg
files. What are my options?
So far, I have seen the Rio Karma (and some other Rio models?), and my
favorite as of today is one of the iRiver iFP-1xxT. The Neuros looks even
better, but ogg support seems incomplete.
Any good experience, bad

OGG question:
Here's a question I have: My understanding is that OGG is a
'containter' format, allowing for multiple streams of multiple types, of
which Vorbis is only one.
My question is this: Is it feasable (and, considering licencing,
leagal) to create an .ogg file that contains, say Indeo or Cinepak
video? (In other words, use the ogg bitstream to store the data rather
than .avi).

Bzip2 & Ogg Vorbis
Hi,
I've got some (seven) Ogg Vorbis files with a total size of 18637246 bytes.
When I use bzip2 to compress these files, the total size is 16949443. That's
10% less.
Is bzip2 supposed to be able to compress Ogg Vorbis files further?
If not, are these files encoded with wrong settings?
If so, why is there no option to use bzip2 with Ogg Vorbis by default?

Ripping CD´s to Ogg Vorbis under Linux
Hi,
I recently migrated from Windows to Linux. I´ve used Linux quite a bit
in server-enviroments, but as a desktop I have very little experience.
I am now looking for a tool to rip CD´s to Ogg with CDDA support. I´ve
tried KonCD, but it lacks features and is abit buggy.
Sure, I can use cdparanoia, rename the wav´s to the right names and then
encode to ogg via oggenc. But since I use X I

.ogg file extension for both audio and video?
Hi,
If I understand things correctly them Ogg is the wrapper format that
is also going to be used for Xiph's upcoming video compressor.
Does that mean that the .ogg file extension will also be used for
video?
This could present problems regarding mapping the .ogg file extension
to an application if for example I want audio to be handled by Winamp2
and video by something else.

Removing Vorbis tags
Hello everyone,
Was wondering if there was an option or program somewhere that can delete all tags associated with an Ogg Vorbis file?

Debian versioning problems
Anyone know how I can persuade a debian system that a version number like
'1.0-1' is actually greater than '1.0rc3-1', for the purpose of dependencies?
As the 1.0 debian control file requires debhelper 4.0.0, I ended up building
from source, but I'd like to put some equivs packages in without silly
version numbers like '1.0rc99' to keep apt and friends happy.

Announce: Gnomoradio 0.7
Greetings all,
Gnomoradio is a peer-to-peer music application that can find and play
music, read Creative Commons licenses, and hopefully build an online
community of musicians who wish to share music. Best of all, it
supports the OGG Vorbis audio format. Version 0.7 is the initial
development release, and it is currently available in source form only
for UNIX-like systems.
