Calling home while on the road, will it work?
I have a Digium TDM400P card with 1 FXS and 1 FXO module running on my
FreeBSD 6.0 server.
While I am on the road, I would like to save on costs by using a soft-phone
from my laptop to call in to a telephone connected to this card.
I installed both Asterisk and Zaptel drivers from the ports, but still
haven't done anything with the configuration files.
What else do I require, and what is

Small setup
Hello All,
I have a very small setup of 4 users and a X100P. Asterisk is currently
running on an Athlon 1800 but the server it is running on is also our
imap/web/mail/development/samba server and we are having a few issues
with asterisk which I believe is down to to many tasks.
What I intend to do is build a box just for asterisk(Ill call the old
one obelix). I have a few machines in the loft

Run the signal through a Compressor/Limiter before sending it to your
soundcard. I use Behringer Ultra-Dyne Pro DSP9024. Very nice. If you
want to buy it look here:

Newcomer perceived problems with AAF/Ferret
I blogged about some of the problems with aaf in production
(http://www.jroller.com/BrightCandle) yesterday but inspired by the
poitive response I thought I would share the perceived problems and
discuss some of the potential solutions to help newcomers and make aaf
work as if by magic just like Rails does.
All of these problems boil down to one simple problem, running acts as

Advise on slowness in bootstrapping?
I am looking at trying to use ferret/aaf to supplement my querying against a
medium and large table with lots of columns. Some facts first:
Ferret 0.11.4
AAF 0.4.0
Ruby 1.8.6
Rails 1.2.3
Medium table:
105,464 rows
168 columns (mostly varchar(20))
11 actual columns indexed in aaf plus
40 virtual columns indexed in aaf (virtual is concat of two physical columns.

using highlight from aaf
Hi,
I''m trying to use highlight ferret method with trunk aaf and 0.10.1
ferret.
In my search display I use:
Myindexedclass.ferret_index.searcher.highlight(@query, result_line.id,
:content)
* searcher is a protected method; how can I access to the searcher from
aaf ?
* is the doc id in aaf the same as my model id ?
* is the first param, query, the string query or the query object ?

AAF index updated when record is deleted?
Got it all running nicely now for a few days but noticed something
funny. I have a table were lots of records get added, deleted every day.
I can see the added records being added by AAF to the index but I
notices some "ghost" results when doing searches. The search returns
record ID-s that do not exist anymore because they were deleted.
Does AAF also remove entries from the index when

"tried to use a closed index"
Sorry in advance for the newbie question. Can''t get aaf going and can''t
find similarly stuck folks on this forum.
I''m running Rails on my local machine in development mode. I installed
ferret 0.11.0 gem, and the most recent stable aaf plugin (as of today).
I''m having trouble getting the most basic functionality working. In my
model Recipe, I have:

how to update index from a script
Hello all,
I''m using AAF right now to index my ~3million db records. However, any
additions to these records are added to the database through an external
script so the aaf activerecord hooks will not catch any updates. Since
new records are only added rarely, I figured I could just add the new
records manually in ferret from some type of script. I''ve been looking

complete index rebuild using AAF trunk
I am using AAF trunk, and I want a way to rebuild an index on a
production site with little or no interruption to service. The Drb
Server documentation* states that when an index is rebuilt, it is
done in a separate location and then swapped into place when
finished, and so to do a complete rebuild on a live site, one must
take into consideration objects which have been created or

Need Help with Custom Associations
I''ve read the Rails Envy AAF tutorial at
http://railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as-ferret-tutorial and its given me
some really good ideas.
My problem lies in having AAF search the target Model''s child tables.
I have no problem at all doing something like:
acts_as_ferret :fields => [:title, :update_collection, :member_name]
def member_name
return

How to search with range when I am using AAF
acts_as_ferret :fields => {

:desc => {},
:start_date => {}
}
def start_date

Now that I am strong start_date in YYYYMMDD format, I want to search for
all event in between 20070506 and 20070809
What will my query look like when I am using aaf. This one doesn''t work

acts_as_ferret: reindexing it too slow
Hi,
Recently, I was trying to play around with AAF and found that reindexing
table is very slow. Then I started looking into Ferret performance and
tried myself and found that it''s very fast. Then, I just used Ferret to
index my table and it was also very fast. All good.
Then why reindexing using AAF is slow. After sometime I found that in
the AAF, it uses (:key => :id) in

acts_as_ferret to search partial phrases and fuzzy
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had experience of extending AAF plugin for
Rails to implement a broader query ?
The documentation and the demo provided on the
http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/ wiki seems to only match
full text queries, or partial when using a * wildcard.
Ideally, I am trying to acheive something similar to the following

Hmm, I think I''ve hit a similar problem. I''ve just upgraded to the
latest ferret trunk from an old aaf stable where the script/ferret_start
and script/ferret_stop scripts were still in use.
now if I call the old script...

Using AAF with ActiveRecord outside of Rails?...
Hi,
My project has been happily using ActiveRecord outside of
Rails for some time to populate various databases that are
also used in Rails based websites.
I''d like to bring AAF into this setup to index new records
that are added to the databases as they''re added.
Has anyone had any success in installing and using AAF
with ActiveRecord but outside the Rails plugin support?

find_by_contents never finds anything on my model
Hi,
Let me preface by saying I am very new to ferret and aaf.
Anyhow, I''m using the aaf plugin on a model named Book. This model isnt
a typical rails model in the fact that it doesnt have an "id" column as
its primary key but instead has a string column named ISBN that is used
as the primary key. When I try to search for anything in the model
using find_by_contents it never

Strange Problem with AAF DRB connection
Hi all!
We use the DRB-Server Backend and are getting strange DRb::DRbConnErrors

stop words in query

Quick question, I''m using AAF and the following custom analyzer:
class StemmedAnalyzer < Ferret::Analysis::Analyzer
include Ferret::Analysis

@stop_words = stop_words
end
def token_stream(field, str)
StemFilter.new(StopFilter.new(LowerCaseFilter.new(StandardTokenizer.new(str)),
@stop_words))
end
