oggenc and SMP
Greets, I'm encoding my favorite Vivaldi Four Seasons CD (my tester files) on my older dual PII-350 linux machines (it's kinda slow with '-b 160' but that's alright) and started wondering - mind you, I'm sucky at C - is it that hard to implement an encoder that uses all the processors on a SMP computer? Another reason why "I Like Monty"
Greets, <off topic> This is off topic but the 'thing' made me appreciate and like Monty even more. I sat down this morning to ogg a CD I bought yesterday. So here I am, preparing to rip the thing so I login to my ripper computer run my custom ripper->encoder suite - unlike other days where I fire it up and minimize the window (I'm on an NT but I have some 5 TeraTerm/SSH

Location of fileinfo
hello there, I just started using ogg files. And want to thank you all for this new format. I have written an addon for mirc (chatclient for irc chat networks) to play and exchange soundfiles and I am almost done with implementing the ogg vorbis format into this application. The mirc-scriptinglanguage provides me a command to read a specified number of bytes starting at a specified location of

Removing Vorbis tags
Hello everyone, Was wondering if there was an option or program somewhere that can delete all tags associated with an Ogg Vorbis file? Debian versioning problems
Anyone know how I can persuade a debian system that a version number like '1.0-1' is actually greater than '1.0rc3-1', for the purpose of dependencies? As the 1.0 debian control file requires debhelper 4.0.0, I ended up building from source, but I'd like to put some equivs packages in without silly version numbers like '1.0rc99' to keep apt and friends happy. Announce: Gnomoradio 0.7
Greetings all, Gnomoradio is a peer-to-peer music application that can find and play music, read Creative Commons licenses, and hopefully build an online community of musicians who wish to share music. Best of all, it supports the OGG Vorbis audio format. Version 0.7 is the initial development release, and it is currently available in source form only for UNIX-like systems.

How widely spread is this file format?
I just have a general question about this file format. How many music players out on the market support this format? I know Winamp does but does iPod, DellDJ, or any other portable devices support this format? Just curious how widely accepted this format is for a project I might have. Thanks! .+-j!i0+:)rhZm1hNrybXuz/-*arj) '+a{ +v&{ay,rR{.n+z,z{m^+-)emw

Bitrate peeling on existing (older) streams ?
Hi all, last time I have seen discussions here about alternative encoders, or tuned versions of the encoder. Last year (sept/oct) there had been the discussion if existing streams will be peelable or if they have to be "modified" first to be peelable. Now for my question: Is it known allready if existing streams will be peelable or not ? Or, with other words: Is it known if the /can/

still developed?
Sorry for asking, but libogg and libvorbis especially are still developed? No updates from september 2004. I just need to know if I have to move to FLAC [which is actively maintained] to store my CDs.

RC2 encoder status
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I've been off this list for a while now so I lost touch with ogg vorbis development. Could somebody please bring me up to date? As I take, the current RC2 release contains full 1.0 feature support (incl. channel coupling). Does this mean I can now start encoding all of my music as a ~128kbit/s ogg bitstream without fear of reduced

.ogg file extension for both audio and video?
Hi, If I understand things correctly them Ogg is the wrapper format that is also going to be used for Xiph's upcoming video compressor. Does that mean that the .ogg file extension will also be used for video? This could present problems regarding mapping the .ogg file extension to an application if for example I want audio to be handled by Winamp2 and video by something else.

Congratulations and a question
Congratulations on inclusion in the Real Helix thing. :-) I do have a question, however. While I am very impressed by Vorbis 1.0's quality even down to "-1", vorbis seems very much a VBR format, which is great if the file lives on your hard drive, but a mixed bag for streaming over a modem connection. How well does Vorbis compare to existing streaming formats, including

[faq?] Portable players supporting ogg vorbis
Hi, I got into the mood of acquiring a portable music player, and I want to "vote with my dollars" and choose among the players that can play ogg files. What are my options? So far, I have seen the Rio Karma (and some other Rio models?), and my favorite as of today is one of the iRiver iFP-1xxT. The Neuros looks even better, but ogg support seems incomplete. Any good experience, bad

Mime types
Hello, Does anyone know how to configure the mime type for ogg on Apache (on a FreeBSD box)? I added application/x-ogg to the mime.types file in Apache, but Nutscrape6.2 and Mozilla 0.9.5 just show the file in txt format, IE5x on the other hand kindly asks me what to do with the file (open it or download it). I also added the mime-type in Nutscrape62 and Mozilla and added Winamp as helper app
