Colour depth reduced to 12 by bitmap devices
I am using R to create colour plots as bitmap files. I have created a
palette of 256 colours that I want to use, but the resultant output
files contain only 12 colours used in dither patterns. The result is the
same whether I use bmp() or png().
How can I get the true colours that I specified instead of dither
patterns? (making the driver's job easier!)
I am using R 1.1.0 for Windows

SMBTAR Not Backing up Files
I am having trouble getting SMBTAR to do a complete backup on NT
Workstation and NT Server. The backup starts off just fine. However,
after a short time, errors begin showing up and files are not backed
up. The files that are missed are not open files. I have set the -t
option to disk and tape. I get pretty much the same result. Both NT
machines have over 2 GB of data to backup up. I am

code problem with the optim() function
Please forgive me if someone has seen this duplicated email, because I sent
the email to the wrong address just now.
Hi, all,
I'm estimating an inter-rater coefficient, Aickin (1990)'s alpha. It's been
a long time for me to figure out how to make it work, but it's still of no
avail. The problem seems to be my code with the optim() function. Can
anyone help me take a look at the

Three-way ANOVA shows me two-way results
Hi all,
I'm doing a 3-way ANOVA like this:
summary(aov(formula('FP ~ (lum * obj * man)3 - Error(vp/(lum * obj *
man)3)'),data=dataf))
But in the output I only get 1- and 2-way effects, like this one:
Error: vp:obj:man
Df Sum Sq Mean Sq F value Pr(>F)
obj:man 1 1.5291e-34 1.5291e-34 5.7011 0.0542 .

deriv when one term is indexed
Hi,
I'm fitting a standard nonlinear model to the luminances measured
from the red, green and blue guns of a TV display, using nls.
The call is:
dd.nls <- nls(Lum ~ Blev + beta[Gun] * GL^gamm,
data = dd, start = st)
where st was initally estimated using optim()

Alias for country in indications.conf
Hello list,
Hope you all doing fine!
I've tried to use the 'alias' directive in the indications.conf file but
apparently it doesn't work....
It looks like maybe this feature was removed, because old sample for the
indications.conf file have example using the alias parameter, but newer
samples don't have it anymore.... also I couldn't find any ticket saying
this parameter

Redundancy canonical analysis plot problem in 3D using VEGAN, RGL, SCATTERPLOT3D and SFSMISC
We need to keep the discussion on the list. When I run your code, there are several problems.

Re: Samba on AIX 5.1
Dee,
No, I have not resolved the problem. But compiling with gcc seems to work
"better" than C for AIX V6
I have the same problem as You when trying to start the executables.
I get a core dump even when running "testparm".
I also think that bad iconv support in AIX can be the problem, so I have
tried to install GNU libiconv and GNU gettext
after finding this hint on tng-samba

winxp home login to samba shares
Hello
I would like to move Samba shares from my debian onto an uhu (hungarian
linux distro)
The base things are ok, but there is a little problem when I try to
reach shares from my winxp home. As the networking is missing from
home version (no domain logon, etc, as it exists in pro version) samba
should ask user:pass for each time (after rebooting or disconnecting).
My debian works like that,

Why Clang is yielding different LLVM IR return type for the same function
Hi:
So I have a library function called fooo() in a source file B.c and an external A.c file that is referencing a function fooo() in it.
foo is returning a pointer to a structure
A.ll:
%struct._bar= type { %struct._foo, i32, i32 (%struct.doo*, %struct.doo*, %struct.doo*)* }
declare i8* @fooo() #2
B.ll:
%struct._bar= type { %struct._foo, i32, i32 (%struct.doo*, %struct.doo*, %struct.doo*)* }

Resolving problems in the generator->receiver pipes
When I was working on the the hard-link change, I noticed that many
of the hard-link verbose messages were getting lost. These messages
get output very near the end of the transfer, and it turns out that
the reason for the loss was that there are two pipes flowing from
the generator and the receiver, and it was possible for the "we're
all done" message to get received down the redo

offtopic: Solr compatible IMAP client
Hi,
not sure if I'm allowed to go this off topic on here, sorry if not!
I've just installed Solr FTS for Dovecot and its great, as is Dovecot!
;) It works perfectly for fast searches using Roundcube, but can anyone
suggest any Windows and/or Linux mail clients that work well with IMAP
searches rather than doing their own searches on local copies of mails?
I've had a look at
