MARC relators added to Dublin Core
Just noticed this, <http://dublincore.org/usage/documents/relators/>.
MARC (Library of Congress) relators are now part of Dublin Core,
this allows refinements to meta-data like actor, composer,
instrumentalist (of interest to kitchen sink metadata in Ogg/Vorbis).
It still falls short of the more qualified relationships that might
be available with Musicbrainz advanced relationships (eg

Solution to single-file CD archiving, with cue sheets
I discovered FLAC earlier this year, and wrote flac-archive to
archive my CDs to single FLAC files. I've been archiving my
collection for months now, and have gotten it to a reasonable
level of stability and robustness. I recently looked over this
list's archive and saw a number of questions about doing this,
with no clear solution emerging. So, here i am to offer my
meager tools.

album portion of the tags request
I wanted to post publicly my problem with Jonathan's proposed album
requirements. Although I do apologize, since this thread is too big already.
The idea that as a requirement one should be able to identify the exact CD
a track was ripped from is not a valid requirement in my book (not for the
tags at least), and I hope I can explain why. Without knowing the exact
way Jonathan wishes to

Can't get ChanSpy to work
Hello All,
I downloaded the ChanSpy patch from Mantis and updated to the latest
asterisk source from cvs. Everything seems to have installed fine and
everything works as it had before, but I can't get ChanSpy to work.
I added a line to extensions, as a test:
exten => *53,1,ChanSpy(scan)
When I dial this extension from a SIP phone, and then make a call (which I
am trying to monitor) from

Metadata streams
I was looking at the Freeamp stuff and I looked at their RDF metadata stream
spec. (http://www.musicbrainz.org/MM). I noticed on that page it says,
"Furthermore, this format will hopefully be used by the Open Source audio codec
Vorbis to store audio/video metadata with the audio/video tracks." Is this the
metadata format planned for Vorbis? If so, how would it be embedded in the
.ogg?

Server unresponsive until reboot, memory exhausted
I'm having an issue with an apache web server running the latest CentOS5
kernel (this issue is not new to the kernel). After a few days/weeks of
running the server will become unresponsive and will require a physical
reboot in order to come back online. The system is so unresponsive when
the issue occurs that login at console is not even possible.
I have atop installed and have looked back

Question on the nature of b3/b4 changes
I have a number of .ogg files encoded with b2, and some with b3. Is the
psychoacoustic model in the forthcoming b4 significantly improved over these
builds, such that re-encoding these files would give me either noticeably
better sound, or smaller files? Also, just out of curiousity, will
b4-encoded files be playable with older WinAmp plugins?
Incidentally, I did some tests with b2 a while back

R crashes on Repeated ODBC Queries
Hi,
I've been up all night trying to get the following to work.
First here is the setup. I have a P4 1G mem running WinXP SP2, R 2.0.1
patched 2005-01-15, MySQL 4.1.7 and MyODBC 3.51.
I've been pulling data from MySQL using the code at the end of the post,
where start.date and end.date are chron objects and auction.type is a
string. I've been rushed so the code, especially the

kernel: dahdi: Master changed to B4/0/x
Hi,
I did replace an old asterisk box by a new shiny one (2 BRI ports used
on a quad port card - BeroNet PCI Express)
I noticed a message in the logs that puzzles me:

Asterisk 1.4.0 B4 Sounds Directory
Hi,
I noticed that the sound directory is missing from asterisk-1.4.0-beta4.tar.gz.
This directory (7 M) witch existed in asterisk-1.4.0-beta3.tar.gz has GSM Core
Sounds and some MOH.
Does anyone know why it has been removed from the latest beta?
Regards.

Any wine-0.9 build instructions for AMD64 b4-bit systems?
Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows how to build the new version of wine on an
AMD64 system. There seem to be problems with it looking at the
emulation libraries I guess:
gcc -m32 -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -D__WINESRC__
-D_REENTRANT -fPIC -Wall -pipe -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2
-fno-strict-aliasing -gstabs+ -Wdeclaration-after-statement
-Wpointer-arith -g -O2 -o surface_wndproc.o

RDF Metadata Specification
I've put together the first attempt to defining an RDF metadata
vocabulary for use with the CD Index/MusicBrainz/OggVorbis. If you care
about metadata issues, please take a look at:
http://www.cdindex.org/MM
I've included a section for video specific stuff, but everything that I
originally had in there is being covered by the MM:Contributors section.
The Contributors stuff will allow

REST webservice client
Hi *,
I want to use the new MusicBrainz REST web service (http://
wiki.musicbrainz.org/XMLWebService) in my Rails application, and was
looking for suggestions as I''ve never used ActionWebService and have
little experience with web services in general.
Can someone enlighten me ? Does Rails provide facilitations for this
kind of task, or maybe Ruby module ...
TIA,

Mono wavs with b4
When I encode a monophonic wav file, I would expect the resulting ogg file
to be at about half the bit rate specified on the command line, as stated in
the "oggenc -h" help text: "The 6 modes are approximately 112, 128, 160,
192, 256, and 350 kbps (for stereo 44.1kHz input. Halve these numbers for
mono input).".
This doesn't seem to be happening, though. I took a 16-bit,

Scheduled workers only run once unless you call self.delete inside the worker
I had a worker scheduled to run every minute with
backgroundrb_schedules.yml:
ebay_runner:
:class: :ebay_auction_worker
:job_key: :ebay_auction_runner
:trigger_type: :cron_trigger
:trigger_args: 0 * * * * * *
This worker posts an auction to eBay from a queue of auctions every minute.
I was having a problem where the worker would run ok the first time, but
never any subsequent minutes
