Digital Ear evaluation of Vorbis beta 4
For those who haven't yet seen this: EarGuy's Digital Ear (physiological model of the ear based on work by Frank Baumgarte) has just finished rating the sound quality of Vorbis beta 4 at 128 kbs using 30 random 10-second selections of music: http://pub41.ezboard.com/fr3mixfrm4.showMessage?topicID=33.topic Two samples on which the Ear says Vorbis performed uncharacteristically poorly

Participate in listening tests
You know it's good; I know it's good. I'm talking about Vorbis at 128 as it currently is in CVS. Please participate in a group listening test of various formats to show how Vorbis 128 has improved since RC2. I have prepared three sample music clips comparing Liquid AAC, MPC, pre-RC3 Vorbis, Lame, Xing, and WMA8, similar to the first test. Except I believe that this time Vorbis

Where to send examples of poor encoding?
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is) I've been playing around with vorbis quite a bit lately, and I've hit on a few chunks of audio where the encoder falls down. I imagine that the developers will want to hear these and I'm just wondering - perhaps there is already some procedure setup for submitting these samples? Maybe there's a vorbis idrive/incoming ftp

>1TB ZFS thin provisioned partition prevents Opensolaris from booting.
Not sure where to put this but I am cc''ing the ZFS - discussion board. I was successfull in creating iscsi shares using ZFS set shareiscsi=on with 2 thin provisioned partitions of 1TB each (zfs create -s -V 1tb idrive/d1). Access to the shares with an iscsi initiator was successful, all was smooth, until the reboot. Upon reboot, the console reports the following errors. WARNING:

Some pre-RC1 listening tests
Hello everyone, ff123 compiled Monty's branch of the RC1 encoder, see his post on r3mix.net forum: http://66.96.216.160/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=c&action=display&num=994299736&start=30 Anyway it only supports ~128kbps mode, so I did a quick listening test with some files that bugged vorbis beta4. grace.wav - the right channel is still a bit watery, and I think this can be seen

Lotus Notes 4.6.4 doesn't load, RH 7.1
Hello all. I am new to this list and Linux in general. I am working my way out from under the dependancies of MS; however, I still need to use some windoz products at the office. On RH 7.1, I have Wine installed (thank you Codeweavers and other good Wine folks) and have gotten most of the windoz apps to work. The only one I am having problems with is Lotus Notes. It starts to load and then

Samba File Share Encryption How To?
Hello, Can someone please point me to documentation on encrypting a file share? Looking to have data created on a Windows workstation backed up and saved on a Samba file share across a WAN link. Currently using IPsec so I assume I'm good on the transport end? Thanks. -- -James

Ogg Traffic for October 30, 2001
Bear with the text-based format for a bit. I'll make it nicer over time, but for now it's just a lynx -dump of the html one. As always you can find these at http://www.vorbis.com/ot/ and http://www.vorbis.com/ot/latest.html for the latest one. ---- Ogg Traffic for Tuesday, October 30, 2001 Jack Moffitt <[1]jack@xiph.org>

pci sata raid card
Using centos 4.2. Trying to install pci sata raid card, Pacific Digital QM-4300R10. Raid card box reads that it supports linux. raid software has rhel 4.0 dd image. I write to floppy and use linux dd to "try" install drivers on my centos 4.2. I see the card in the list that centos gives me after loading the drivers, but when I try to use them, it doesn't do anything. Nothing works.

Configuring Deltacom pri in Florida
Hi guys, Trying to do a pri pass-through with a duel port t1 card from Digium. I have port 1 setup to come in and out from Deltacom and port 2 to feed the pbx. Incoming calls work from Deltacom just fine, but outgoing do not. Anyone know what switch type I may need to get the dial-outs to work or anything else I might need? Thanks, Tom

Almost Sucessful!
I'm quite new to *nix let alone WINE and I was quite proud when I managed to get a game I like to play working; GunZ The DUEL. ran into a few issues with XML and found out that MSXML(Or something liek that) needed to be installed from winetricks awesome the game works now. EXCEPT; any text in the game that's not per-rendered images is just 100% Garbage pixels, and the thing is WINE

Monitor Dummy Device
I'm curious as to what exactly you are needing what appears to be a second monitor without an actual second monitor? For what purpose do you think you need such a setup? Maybe there's another method to get what you want if you can give us more detail. On Tue, Jan 19, 2016 at 10:53 AM, Joey <forum at r5d.de> wrote: > Am 2016-01-19 02:01, schrieb Mark LaPierre: > >> On

Syntax for Rmpi cf multicore
I'm aiming to compare the workings of Rmpi and multicore on a duel processor quad core machine with 64 bit R-2.11.1 Kubuntu 10.4. It's impossible for me to get a small reproducable code segment to show what I mean, but if I show what works for mclapply, I'd hope it's possible to be shown what would be the equivalent way with mpi.apply. The function lr.gbm has variables trees,

Xen Credit-Based CPU Scheduler
Hi all, The xen documentation at http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/CreditSchedulerstates that the max weight you can set for a domU is 65535. To verify this I decided to try setting 65535 to my dom0 which had no domUs running at the time. I was unable to set a weight of 65535. The server is a duel quad core (8 cores) with 32GB RAM running Centos 5.4/xen-3.0.3-94.el5_4.3 . The maximum weight I was
