A Top Level README for the nightly CVS snapshot
I ran into a dependency problem while compiling the CVS snapshot which
did not occur while compiling the beta 3 tarballs. For some missing
resources, autogen.sh echoes very helpful messages (such as if automake
is not present), but there was no indication that the kdelibs-devel
package was required for ao (in order to get artsc.h into /usr/include -

patches to beta 4 spec files
Hi,
Attached are patches for the beta 4 distribution, fixing minor
problems in RPM spec files.
One question: are there any reasons not to include vorbiscomment
in the vorbis-tools binary package? I've added the long-awaited
utility program into the revised spec file, but I wonder if it
is a wrong change...

libao source build problems on Mandrake 8.2b4: artsc.h missing?
Hi. I'm trying to build and install ogg vorbis on Mandrake 8.2b4. I'm using
the ogg vorbis source rpms on the download page. libogg and libvorbis built
fine, but it looks like I'm missing a basic aRts header file in the build
error excerpt below (artsc.h--somebody check and make sure I'm on the right
track).
However, I have Mandrake Cooker arts, libarts2, libarts2-devel

patch to add device-option to ogg123 rc file
Below is a patch for vorbis-tools-1.0beta4 ogg123.
It adds support for using the rc file (like /etc/ogg123.rc) for
configuring the device-options. In addition, comments can be used (when
they start a line).
My ~/.ogg123rc:
default_device=oss
default_options=dsp:/dev/audio

Patches for NetBSD
I submitted four new packages for the NetBSD pkgsrc collection: libao,
libogg, libvorbis and vorbis-tools for 1.0beta4.
The following is some of the patches needed for libao and vorbis-tools.

automake 1.6 compatability patch
This patch cleans up the vorbis-tools Makefile.am files so they work with both
automake 1.4 and 1.6. Some changes to configure.in were also needed in order
to get things to work (and to fix some ac 2.50 issues).
Please remove config.h from cvs as it is a generated file and empty anyway.
automake 1.6 isn't really incompatable with 1.4, it's just more picky about
you sticking to the rules:

ogg123 synopsis and man page fixes
The output of ogg123 -h and the man page should be updated to
document the devices currently available through libao. (Those
extraneous carriage returns in ogg123.1 suck, btw.)

vorbis-tools compiling problem
Hello,
I successfully compiled and installed;
libao-0.6.0-1
libao-devel-0.6.0-1
libogg-1.0beta4-1
libogg-devel-1.0beta4-1
libvorbis-1.0beta4-1
libvorbis-devel-1.0beta4-1
as RPM's using the spec files included in the sources. (the RPM's
available for download are for RPM 4 users, I guess?)
Anyway, now I'm trying to compile vorbis-tools using the spec file
included and I got the

ogg123 remote interface
Hi,
I've been working on ogg123 to see if i could add a remote interface
compatible with the one in mpg123. This remote interface is used mainly by
mp3 players which use mpg123 as their backend.
The reason i did this was that i have recently encoded some of my cd's in
ogg vorbis format but wanted to keep using my favourite player (playmp3list,

artifact bug status? / compiling under OpenBSD 2.8
Hi!
On March 17th I posted a message on this list concerning an artifact bug
in beta4 that is audible in all available bitrates. It was this rumbling
sound in the bass area. I made a demo clip, which still is available at
http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~us87/ogg/vorbis_bassrumble_demo.rar
and that contains both the original .WAV and an .OGG @ 350kbps. This
archive is 2.1 MB large.

Patch for 2.0.0beta2-1.src.rpm on Mandrake
Damien,
I had to apply the following simple patch for the
openssh-2.0.0beta2-1.src.rpm package to build on my Mandrake Linux system
(see below for patch). Basically, Mandrake auto compresses man pages in
the build sequence (appending a .bz2 extension), so I had to change the
%files sections to find the compressed man pages.
By using wildcards, I expect that this patch will NOT break the

ao_arts
Hi,
I've written an ao plugin for aRts, the soundserver that comes with KDE.
Any chance of including this in the ao distribution ? Pretty please ? :)
Sources and patches attached. This is a very simple plugin because it
uses the easy-to-use 'artsc' C wrapper that aRts installs.
configure.in.diff is for ao/configure.in
Makefile.am.diff is for ao/src/plugins/Makefile.am

Bug #4
Hi.
I created a patch for Bug #4 (ogg123 not honoring /etc/ogg123rc) and
uploaded it to Bugzilla, but I have the feeling that the Bugzilla is
somewhat neglected... so I just send the patch here.
The changes are very simple, one typo (I guess) was fixed (from
"/etc/ogg123.rc" to "/etc/og123rc" as it's documented), and I changed an if
to a while-loop to make it read the

Systemwide default for ogg123
MoiN
I thought you should be able to set system wide defaults for the
output device of ogg123. The following patch will look for
/etc/ogg123rc, if no ~/.ogg123rc can be found. So the user can
still override the system defaults, but not every user needs to
have an ~/.ogg123rc file.

Repeat patch for ogg123
Hi,
I have made a small patch for enabling repeating in ogg123.
It adds the parameter "--repeat n" or "r n" where n indicates how
many times it repeats the playlists. Zero in forever.
Apply it if you like, I find it very convenient.

Latest kde/tetex updates fail on my attempts. Is it me or ...?
Trying to apply the latest updates to an Athalon base fully updated
CentOS 4.2. In the past used the update process kicked off by clicking
the hand-dandy red icon. This failed, so I tried yum. Somewhere in the
process, it complained that there was no GPG key for the lame libraries
(IIRC, everything's a little hazy after all the Googling trying to fix
this).
Anyway, tried "yum
