2d wavelet transforms
I've been reading up on wavelet transforms the past week,
and I plan to start on some video compression stuff next
week, if it's any good (small chance :)) for Tarkin.
So far I think I know what's happening, however there's one
small thing I don't quite understand yet. If I understand
correctly, you can do a 2d wavelet transform (I'm assuming
a Haar transform here for

Tarkin video codec?
Me again, this time not about patents but about wavelets. I've been
doing some work on an image compression method which uses Haar wavelets
plus VQ and entropy coding, and Segher Boessenkool told me in a private
message that you are also doing a video codec. So I searched the
archives and read a bunch of posts, but I never did find out any web
address. And it's not on xiph.org either. So

DWIT
Hi,
I'm interested in helping out with the Vorbis and Tarkin projects (in my
already limited time!). I don't have an extensive background in all of the
mathematics involved, but it looks like my mathematics from undergrad Physics
is good enough to get a grasp on it.
In the past few days I've started doing some reading on the mathematical
basics. As part of my reading, I found

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg-vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
Dear David,
I hope it's ok to forward your email to the developer lists. I have not
seen a comprehensive scheme for MIME type naming and file extensions for
ogg files yet - please anybody put me in the picture if there is.
However, I have seen application/x-ogg used for ogg-vorbis files, which
is according to MIME type registration rules an unregistered and
experimental MIME type (see

Integer wavelet video codec (source and test program)
Hi everybody,
I wrote last time some code to do video compression using a 3d integer
wavelet transform. Since it uses a reversible lifting scheme and avoids a
lot of floating point operations compared to Jacks initial Tarkin code,
this should be somewhat faster and allow lossy+lossless compression.
The current implementation is very experimental, but nevertheless I would
be happy if some of you

ogg pic format (again).. here's why
I sent a little mail some time ago asking if there was going to be an ogg
pic-format, and you replied that PNG, MNG and JNG is good enough (sorry for
this late answer btw).. But, consider this: The ogg video-format (tarkin ?
where do you get these names from anyway ? :) ) needs a way to compress its
frames. Are you going to use MNG for that ? :) ..
If you had an ogg pic format, that format could

Be happy: ogg123 fixes (almost)
I have been very busy for the last few months with school, during
which time Jack and others have taken over ogg123. Now I have a week
off for Christmas ("Winter Break" for the politically correct), so I
have some free time. And what better place to spend it than at my
computer? (heh)
So anyway I decided to take a look at (what's left of)
ogg123. Yuck. Eeew. Horror. The good news:

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg-vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
just for the record -- I think you mean video/theora when you mention vorbis+VP3. Vp3 is becoming Theora. Tarkin is another video codec project at Xiph.
As for this whole MIME type issue, can someone enlighten me as to how this problem is addressed with Quicktime, Microsoft, and RealNetworks plug-ins today? Also, does an MPEG4 tag specify which audio codec is used?
thanks - dan

Tarkin developer mailing list
Suddenly, quite a few people have jumped in and started active
experementation and discussion about Tarkin, as well as playing with
the very rudimentary test-of-concept 3d wavelet coder jack, hatamoto
and I hacked on last year.
For your use, I've added a new mailing list, tarkin-dev@xiph.org, for
discussion and hacking on Tarkin. The list is run, linked and archived at
xiph.org like the

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg -vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
Thanks, Dan, for understanding what I meant with that sentence and
clarifying it. I was indeed thinking of "video/theora" as MIME type to
signify a theora & vorbis a/v-stream. If "Theora" is not the right name for
this integrated stream, please come up with another one that is readable - I
strongly dislike "oggvth".
Silvia.

DRM
Hi everybody,
I was just wondering if there is a DRM (Digital Right Management) solution to use with ogg vorbis.
Any information welcomed.
Thanx

You might as well ask, how does an application know what to do when it's launched from your
