I don't know enough to tell if this is pilot error on the user's part or a legit problem. Mail service outage at xiph.org
Hi folks, The Postfix mail server on motherfish.xiph.org server got itself 'into a state' last night and stopped delivering mail for several hours this morning. The exact cause isn't known at the moment, but since the mail sandbox had grown somewhat out of sync with the rest of the machine, I corrected that, increased the debug level and restarted the server. Vorbis decoder 1.0 release candidate 1 in CVS
We're there. The decode engine with all 1.0 features is finished and in CVS, tagged as release candidate 1. CVS mainline head and the current nightly snapshot will get you the latest and greatest. Next, we continue work toward rc1 of the encode side. Monty --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this

Vorbis license terms? (fwd)
The license for the Vorbis audio codec was recently changed from GPL to LGPL because it's author (xiphmont@xiph.org) felt that being GPLed would hamper it's development. An argument ensued on the vorbis list about the intentions and consiquences of the GPL. Since words are being 'put in your mouth' I thought you might like the opportunity to comment. ---------- Forwarded message

Ahh, there was one more oops
I thought I'd tested all the mail server changes, but it turns out I'd missed one more.... just in time to leave for a consulting gig (off net) for the week. Oops. The server was happily accepting mail, just not delivering (postfix's chroot instructions are incomplete for a Debian setup). Hopefully the backlog flushed itself out overnight. Broken links in ogg HTML documentation
I looked at the HTML files in the ogg/doc directory after Monty fixed the spelling. When I view the oggstream.html file in my local cvs tree, the second bitmap file (vorbisword2.png) shows as broken (not present in cvs). Furthermore, the vorbis.html file linked to by the white-ogg.png image (also in framing.html) does not exist. It appears that the documentation has been broken when it was

ABR or CBR?
Just in case my quotation causeed misunderstnaing... Forget about what I quoted before. Probably, by CBR, Monty meant ABR since CBR is stupidly patented and this is the reason why Vorbis has no CBR option. If you know this, it cannot be a problem but I see there is a question asking what is ABR in the mailing list. >On Thu 28 Jun 2001, 23:27:41 PDT, Monty (xiphmont@xiph.org)Wrote: >then

Ogg123 playback bug
Heh. *I* have one to report. I just placed a file at http://www.xiph.org/xiphmont/ogg123bad.ogg decoder_example decodes this file properly. ogg123 decodes to WAV properly. However, ogg123 places a 'shhhhPOP' noise into the right channel of soundcard playback (reliably) at just after 1.3 seconds. Going back to look... ogg123 is doing that with a couple different files. In this one,

Mail archive search is now up
There's now a list search on the xiph.org website for the vorbis and vorbis-dev mailing lists. The search can be found on each list's master monthly index (eg, http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/masterindex.html) It's a Perl CGI on an underpowered box, so no bitching about speed :-) Monty --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage:
