ogglame and LAME 3.85 beta
Hi there, I have a question on ogglame, especially on its compression quality. I've download the binary package of ogglame from www.vorbis.com. It works fine. I've also tried LAME 3.85 beta that supports the encoding and decoding of Vorbis streams. I believe that ogglame is a beta version of LAME. I built LAME using libvorbis in the CVS nightly snapshot fetched on July 19th. I fixed

This works: low bitrate encoding
Hey everyone, Here's one way to get .ogg files down to about ~20kbps, and it's not too hard: 1. Use sox to resample the files down to 11025khz mono. 2. Feed these to OGGLAME (Lame 3.84 Alpha 1 is what I had laying around on my hard drive). OGGENC demands that the files be 44.1khz, but this version of ogglame didn't seem to care what the sample rate was. I'm sure the quality

Decoder example question
Hey all...I'm trying to use the decoder_example.c in the examples directory to decode a .ogg file that was encoded by using the binary encoder ogglame.exe and encoded via the encoder_example.c. I'm running into a problem with the decoder though. It plays FINE under the WinAmp plugin but I when I try and use the decoder_example.c to decode the file it says "End of file before finding

Freeamp output plug-in
Hello: I don't usually post requests like this to mailing lists, but I've just about run out of other options. The vorbis.org and vorbis.com sites both make mention of a beta vorbis output plug-in for freeamp, but I'm blowed if I can find it anywhere. It's definitely not in the vorbis.com download section (unless it's been placed their within the last 24 hours or so), and

Bugfix patch for vorbize, compat patch for grip
Hey. Last night I hacked grip so that it'd allow me to use vorbize and comments with grip. It's very ugly because grip'd need a bit of rearrangement in order to facilitate the way the vorbis comments work (that is, the comments are not added in after the encoded file has been written). Any one who wants to use it should patch grip-2.94 (http://www.nostatic.org/grip), and make sure you

Higher bitrates
I have a similar question but about lower bit rates...I'm more concerned about file size than about how it sounds. What do I need to tweak in Vorbis to accomplish this? My target bit rate would be 11kHz 8-bit mono. Thanks, Chris > It's fairly simple to change the bitrate by adjusting some params in > mode.h. New beta bug reports/bug report
Hi. Joined the list since this seems to be the only point of communication. Just have two comments/questions. 1) I looked all around the developer's site and vorbis.com and don't see any mention of where to send bug reports for 1.0 beta. I'd think it would be a FAQ. 2) My bug for the new beta. (I'm hoping someone of the PTB is reading ... I definitely don't belong on the

Font issue in Debian Jesse after updates
Hi, My primary work computer (on which I have no sudo privileges) is running Debian jessie. For various reasons I need to compile R in my personal directory rather than using the site-wide install. On 2013-12-20 the sysadmin ran apt-get upgrade, and now any R that I compile errors when I try to use X11 fonts: > plot(1:10) Error in axis(side = side, at = at, labels = labels, ...) :

r-cran-rjava dependencies on debian jesse, library(rJava) fails when default-jre is missing
Hi, Dirk Eddelbuettel advised me to write here. Here is my original letter to him: I would like to enquire about package r-cran-rjava on Debian jesse. It seems that if default-jre package is not installed, but openjdk-7-jre is installed, then library(rJava) in R fails. I?ve been bitten by this today and I wonder whether this an issue of mine, or is this a possible bug. My server admin used

VBR conflicts filesystem?
For a bootable usb drive, syslinux seems use MBR and VBR to find vmlinuz and ramdisk. And VBR stays in the first sector of partition, 63rd for example. So does VBR conflicts the filesystem on partition?

A Question about VBR
Congrats to the team for 0.10.0. It sounds really good in the tests I've done so far. I'm really looking forward to the 1.0 release. One question though: could you explain briefly the difference between VBR and unconstrained VBR? And, in my case, the $64K question: is there any situation where CELT could produce more data than specified by nbCompressedBytes when encoding? Thanks
