putting the video into ogg multimedia
With both vorbis and libmng nearing stable status, I've been thinking
about combining the two to make a real multimedia format. What would be
involved in embedding mng in an ogg bitstream? From what I've read of the
documentation, there doesn't seem to be any codec-enumeration system. Do
we just interleave the packets and let the player guess based on the
headers which codec to try? I

ogg pic format (again).. here's why
I sent a little mail some time ago asking if there was going to be an ogg
pic-format, and you replied that PNG, MNG and JNG is good enough (sorry for
this late answer btw).. But, consider this: The ogg video-format (tarkin ?
where do you get these names from anyway ? :) ) needs a way to compress its
frames. Are you going to use MNG for that ? :) ..
If you had an ogg pic format, that format could

How Ogg mappings translate into the codecs parameter in Ogg media types
Hi all,
I am trying to set up the codecs table in the wiki and we have played
a bit with Dirac to find out what existing tools write into the
header.
The Schroedinger implementation by Fluendo uses (or used to use)
"KW-DIRAC" as the identifier in the Ogg header.
"BBCD" is the identifier of each of the Dirac data packages.
More recently, I read that the Dirac Sequence header

Conrad was just saying that the way you described the ids was
inconsistent. One column said read 8 chars, the other said compare
with a string that might be less than eight characters.

How Ogg mappings translate into the codecs parameter in Ogg media types
I agree - we should use only hex or octal, but not mixed.
Cheers,
Silvia.

ogg123 timekeeping
Does this look okay? :
Time: 1:15.50 of 4:13.73, Bitrate: 133.3
How about? :
<snip from=ogg123.c>
  info.u_time = ov_time_total (&vf, -1); /* Seconds with double precision */
  gettimeofday (&start_time, NULL);
  t_min = (long) info.u_time / (long) 60;
  t_sec = info.u_time - 60 * t_min;
  while (! eos)

What is Kate ?
Hi,
I've posted a fair few questions around about technical points
relating to the Kate codec, and I thought I'd take the occasion
of releasing 0.1.5 to write up a little something to explain what
Kate can do in more practical terms.
I'd love to know if anyone has had a look at the code/format
(which I'm still documenting, sorry) and would have technical
feedback about it. Or any

album cover art in .ogg?
I've added ogg support to my player app. Now I'd like to be able
to write/read album cover art (jpg, png, what ever) out of the ogg file
and display it, as I do with mp3s.
This assumes that an album cover art picture can reside inside of
an ogg file. I've read through the vorbis.com/faq.psp as well as the
list
archives and haven't
found any direct answers. The section on comments

Fresh install of Debian Etch. Before I install wine (from winehq), I'd like
to double check something about the following document. I've only included
the portion refering to Debian.

My question is about the last comment about freeglut3-dev. Still required or
not, would there be any problems if I

Ogg MIDI proposal
This is a proposal for Ogg MIDI streams. It will also help other
stream additions to Vorbis, as they should follow a similar model.
Ralph has done much of the work on this, and also is working on MNG
Ogg streams.
Background

I was contracted to do this work, so even if you can't think of a use
for this, there is one ;) Basically with midi in Ogg, we can have

AW: embedded pictures in vorbis comments?
Hi,
I think we can start by defining an official field name at www.xiph.org/vorbis/doc/v-comment.html which is used as a file system link to an existing image file. I suggest the field name to be "PICTURE".
What is ogg MNG? Is it a container format for PNG files which should be embedded in OGG files?
If I understand correctly, the picture would be placed in a different logical stream

Support for layers and alpha channel?
First of all congratulations on reaching alpha status.
I was wondering if you people are implementing multiple layer support
into the codec. I don't know if it should be in the container (ogg) or
codec (theora) but perhaps the syncing requires at least support in the
codec.
For example a commercial: a cup of hot chocolate with steam escaping.
Little action, low bandwidth. Then comes the

Hi all.
I'm Mat & I'm new :)
I'm testing libtheora + libogg perhaps for a commercial product.
I started watching encoder_example.c ... I simplified it for testing
it easier.
It seems ok to me but I have no experience with theora so I would like
to know if my code is correct.
I tried to debug it with Valgrind and I found 4 possible memory leaks...
but I think they can be

oggmerge working, Ogg MIDI is here
Ok guys, I just committed the Ogg MIDI code to ogg-tools/oggmerge.
You can now make synced vorbis+midi Oggs, but there is (not yet anyway)
a tool to play such files.
Have a look at the code, and let me know if you see anything major.
Adding new media types for merging should be trivial, and you already
have two examples (the vorbis one is VERY simple and the MIDI one
is much more complicated)
