Best way to manage a 128Kb/s pipe - help
Hi All
I have a 128Kbs internet connection used for in-coming and out-going
traffic.
What tools do I need to manage the following services:
http, ssh (scp), ftp, streaming audio, smtp, instant messenger.
Q1. What is the best kernel to use at the moment and what other tools need
to be installed.
Internet -------- eth0 | Linux fw | eth1 ----------- internal LAN

Vorbis bistream definition / separation from ogg
Hi,
I have some questions:
1) in the sources of the encoder_example (and of course in oggenc.c,
too) I see a lot of dependance
on ogg. I want to get totally rid of ogg and use the vorbis bitstream
alone.
From this reason stems the second question:
2) is there a definition of the vorbis bitstream somewhere? I don't need
to know every single
detail, just the informations necessary to

Renegade MPEG member: Intro and volunteerism
Hi nice Vorbis people,
I've been following the work on Ogg and Vorbis for some
time, and I've been very impressed with the work so far.
I'd like to introduce myself and volunteer for some work
as it's needed. I'm very excited about the prospect of
developing open-source audio coding technologies that
are not encumbered by patents, and think this has the
potential to be very

Using a CBR when encoding to *.ogg
Greetings Fellow Vorbis Gurus!
How can I encode, using CDex, at a CBR (constant bit rate) rather than the VBR?
Also, can one take a 128kbs MP3 file and re-encode it to ogg? If so, please
explain the procedure.
By the way, I'm using a Windows based system.
Thank you!

Analogue artifact estimation
Hi List,
Just batting a few ideas around here, but would it be possible to include in to the codec, estimation for common video artifacts that occur in the analogue world?
For example, anything that's gone through a composite stage will likely have dot-crawl and false colour - if we can recognise this effect in the encoder, we can treat it as a special case.
Other artifacts that come to

[OT] Just saying hi!
I hope this list is small enough for not beeing banned when
introducing oneself. So...
Hi,
I just subscribed to the theora-lists. I'm from the XVID project,
so I know a deal about video and MPEG-4 in particular, but nothing about
Vorbis/Theora etc., That's why I'm here, because I'm interested in
patent-free alternatives.
I guess there is no documentation of the current status

Channel Mapping Family for Ambisonics
Hello,
We (Google) have been experimenting with configuration and adjustments to
CELT-only Opus that give good results for compressing ambisonic audio
signals [1]. Based on our results so far, we would like to use Opus to
encode spatial audio. We hope to make it easy/possible to use libopus with
other common tools and software modules (ffmpeg/libav in particular).
Based on my reading of the

Kernel Error with Icecast
I currently have Icecast 2.3.1 running with Darkice on a
Fedora Core 4 box (with the 2.6.14 kernel). We have three
streams running (all mp3) @ 128kbs, 64kbs, and 24kbs.
I am consistently seeing the following error:
kernel: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual
address ffffffff
It does appear to be icecast causing the error. Oddly, when
this first started showing up, it would

Should Join Discussion - Fwd: [whatwg] Give guidance about RFC 4281 codecs parameter
Hello,
You guys might want to join this discussion. (And maybe some others too.)
On the WhatWG mailing list, there's been a fury of e-mails about
adding a <video> element to HTML5. They're talking about codecs and
containers now. It might be helpful to have your representatives
there. And help shape things.
See ya

Two-way non-parametric ANOVA?
We need a two-way non-parametric ANOVA in order to analysis properly some
ecological data, do you know any reference in R? or how to do it?
Thank you very much
All the best

ogg123 and Vorbis piped to stdin
Moin,
Two questions I have.
Actually, the first isn't so much a question. It seems that `ogg123'
is not able to play streams from stdin, at least not for me on FreeBSD.
It also seems that with the patches way down below, it can play from
stdin for me -- I handle stdin like http-transport and return the
same values for seeking and the like, to avoid calls that fail, and
so it works,

Ogg Theora: Some questions on codec interna
Hejsan !
I am currently investigating new, more modern approaches to encoding video
with depth data based on my old data format MPEG Z/Alpha in
http://www.geofront.se/products_software_mza.php
and became therefore interested in Ogg Theora, as an alternative to MPEG-4
encoding - what I would need is two video streams in one system stream
(is that the right terminology in Ogg ?), and decode them

FLAC StreamInfo Parsing
Thank you very much! But how to deal with endianness in the case of
bit stream? Some blocks (for example MinBlockSize) require 16bits
(simply swap first and second), some block (e.g.MinFrameSize) require
3 byte-array to be reverted.
Finally totalSamples is stored in 5 bytes ( only last 4 bits from
first one byte are used). It was a real issue to make it little-endian
(here is how I did it:

Theora/Thusnelda features questions.
Hello, My name is Robin Mar?n and I have some questions about the Theora
Codec/project...
First of all I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I haven't
found any Xiph/Theora forum or something similar...
I don't even know if this is the right way of "posting" in mailists... But
anyway...
I discovered Theora just like a moth ago when the 1st alpha of Thusnelda

Specifications
Hello,
I would like to know how to find out the specifications (flow chart, transforms, tables, windowing operations, bitstream formatting) used to encode/decode audio in OggVorbis format. I mean something similar to the ISO/IEC 11172-3 document for MPEG-I and the like.

FLAC StreamInfo Parsing
Hello Ilia,
The FLAC format by nature is not a byte stream, it's a bit stream.
Therefore, in order to parse it you need too build a bit-reading
infrastructure. Eg. a class that accepts a byte stream, implements
buffering, etc, etc, and supports reading a specified number of bits, not
bytes as you are used to. There is quite a lot of bit logic there, but
nothing too scary.
