Theora DirectShow filters assembly
Hello everybody, I intend to use Theora as a live video codec in a research project. This project is based on live video broadcast over a poor/slow link, which means lots of frames lost and low bandwith. Until now, it used XViD codec for video compression, which is a working solution but a lot blocky. I made some test with Theora and it looks better in a similar situation. Now, I would like to

Add an intro to a theora file without re-encoding?
Hello, I would like to add a introduction video (typically a title with fade-in / fade-out) at the beginning of an Ogg/Theora video. I generated this intro video in Ogg/Theora from a sequence of png files. I would need to do this in an automatic script, because I have many such videos to process, and without doing any re-encoding step (which would be very costly because my videos are huge). I

libogg++ release 1.1.0
Hi everybody, I posted here about two years ago about the initial release. This is a release that fixes many bugs, and has enhancements that make it possible to support a multi-stream format, ALingA, which I will mention briefly later. It also supports a PCM format, Neuro, both as part of the multi-stream codec, and stand-alone. libogg++ is a C++ library implementing Ogg. It is designed to be

spare bits in the theora keyframe header
Monty, Derf and I were discussing some theora bitstream improvements. He was curious about the spare bits in the keyframe header. There's a keyframe type bit which is always DCT_KEY_FRAME aka '0' and two spare bits. You took out a lot of similar extra bits in the VP3 code. Do you remember anything about the motivation for leaving this one in? Given the constant, were there plans

Encoder keyframe frequency limited to >32
I am using the directshow Theora encoder to compress a live video stream. A dump of the encoder settings is given below. The starred settings have been explicitly configured and the others are defaulted or derived values. These settings produce an even, dark (almost black) recorded result as does any recording with Keyframe Freq <= 32. Keyframe Freq >32 works perfectly. The incoming

[PATCH] thusnelda keyframe only speedup
Hi all, Attached is a trivial patch that speeds up encoding for key frame only streams. It skips the motion vector search which is not needed when there are never going to be any delta frames. It was made against thusnelda SVN revision 14589. Tested on Fedora 8 x64_64. -Phil -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name:

How to fix broken ogg/theora files
Hi there, I haven't been on this list until now, so I wasn't aware of this problem until last night ;-) - sorry for that. I am working on a patch for oggCut for that issue (looks good actually but I would like to do some testing befor I can release a patch.) Normal players are not effected by the page time misordering, so I took this issue as "minor". The reason for the

Encoding QT to Theora
Hi, We're currently editing a video advertizing Firefox and plan to release it exclusively encoded with Theora during a couple of days (before it hits YouTube, DailyMotion...). Editing is done with Final Cut Pro so sources are QT files. What is your experience of encoding QT to Theora? For the time being we are not down to testing xiphQT so we're looking for general advice. Thank you

Update on HTML5 video support in browsers and websites
FYI, Anne van Kesteren (he's an Opera developer) has written an update about the state of the HTML5 <video> element in browsers and big websites: http://annevankesteren.nl/2009/05/web-video Two bits from the post: 1) the YouTube demo uses the H.264 codec, but I guess this will change if they want compatibility with Firefox 3.5; 2) Chrome uses FFmpeg for the decoding; can this

ThePirateBay.org take advantage of HTML5's <VIDEO>
Word just came in from TorrentFreak that ThePirateBay.org have been working on a streaming video website for countless months that takes advantage of the free media formats OGG, Theora and Vorbis. While filesharing in itself is a controversial subject, this will place HTML5's <VIDEO> and <AUDIO> tag--and more importantly the OGG Theora+Vorbis multimedia format--in the
