Update on HTML5 video support in browsers and websites
FYI, Anne van Kesteren (he's an Opera developer) has written an update about the state of the HTML5 <video> element in browsers and big websites: http://annevankesteren.nl/2009/05/web-video Two bits from the post: 1) the YouTube demo uses the H.264 codec, but I guess this will change if they want compatibility with Firefox 3.5; 2) Chrome uses FFmpeg for the decoding; can this

Google is acquiring On2
FYI, Google is acquiring On2: <http://www.betanews.com/article/Future-of-open-Web-video-may-change-with-Google-acquisition-of-On2/1249481107> Also on Slashdot: <http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/08/05/1742249> Anyone knows what, if anything, this means for Theora, open video and/or the Xiph.Org Foundation? Wild speculation: considering that they complained about the

libtheora 1.0 alpha8 released, beta1 imminent

Freedom-friendly video hardware community
Our discussion in the "Theora Camcorder" thread has been great, but I didn't see a direction evolve for action yet. So, I'd like to propose the creation of a community website that will be focused specifically on this kind of thing, partnered with the Xiph Foundation. I'm also more than happy to host said website, as I have more than ample server capacity for that. I just

yuv - rgb conversion without contrast decrease.
Hello list, When I convert an yuv pixel into rgb using the recipies in http://www.fourcc.org/fccyvrgb.php I get an accurate color conversion but the contrast seems to be decreased. If i write, e.g., the pixel directly into an sdl yuv_overlay, I get a well-contrasted frame, however, if I convert the pixel to rgb and call SDL_MapRGB, I get a contrast-decreased frame. Thanks, Ribamar

Windows command-line transcoder for Theora
Hi All, Should anyone be looking for one, here's a DirectShow-based command-line transcoder for Theora: http://www.eddiana.com/?totheora.html It can do basic video transcoding, as well as scale video, watermark video with a graphic, grab frame stills, capture from video sources, and perform a couple color transformations. libtheora 1.1alpha2 (thusnelda) release
I'm pleased to announce the second alpha release of our next generation encoder for the free Theora video format, codename "thusnelda". Slideshow with Ken-Burns Effect
Hi everybody, I've had some time and so I added a slideshow creator with the Ken-Burns-Effect to the Ogg Video Tools. Feel free to visit the following page: http://www.server.streamnik.de:88/test.html It's best viewed with the Mozilla Firefox 3.1 Beta 2, but a Cortado Player is also available for the other browsers. The code is actually not publically available, as I would like to add

Ogg is great!! Tools: ffmpeg2theora, oggz
Hi, I just wanted to say that I've recently become a fan off the ogg movie format. I haven't really done much with video before, but I recently got a Canon DSLR which can record HD movies at 30 fps, 720p. The resulting files are great, but too large to share over the web. After trying a few different encoding tools, I quickly found that ffmpeg2theora is super easy to use, gives good

FFMPEG2THEORA 0.26 / BIG Theora testing / BUG in players or Lib
I tested the new FFMPEG2THEORA 0.26 and some players. 1. Biggest bug: http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/temp/push5tru.zi7 encodes into http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/temp/push5tru.ogv the problem: it doesn't play well. MPLAYER reacts very badly, reports "invalid frames" and HANGS (known issue ???). But in VLC there is also a problem, less severe:

SOC 2010
Do we want to do summer of code 2010 this year? The deadline to apply as an organization is Friday the 12th. I know we have not had very high success rate, but it seems there are plenty of small well defined focused area projects that could use some love. Just the ogg-index-migration list for example: http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/OggIndex-Migration I think we should submit an organization

More information on GSoC project
hello everybody, I would like to participate in GSoC 2008 program under xiph.org. I'd really grateful to you if you can give me more information on this, including 1. Why GIMP need encoding support? 2.If you have any guidance in integrating encoding support for GIMP
