Windows installer for Helix Vorbis & Theora plugins posted
Hi All,
I just posted Windows installer for the 0.5 release of the Helix Theora &
Vorbis plugins for RealPlayer 10/10.5 and RealOne Player. There are no code
changes from the 0.5 zip file that was posted earlier. I've just replaced the
zip file with an installer. You can get the installer at

Speex and Jabber
Greetings,
I hope this message is not too far off-topic.
I'm working with the Helix-Jabber project to create a standard for voice and
video with Jabber IM (http://jabber.org). I've received numerous
recommendations about Speex, and so for our standard voice codec, I'm
wondering if it would be wise to choose Speex instead of GSM. The codecs we
choose must be accessible to as

Status of Vorbis in Realplayer
Hi:
I'm working with an internet station. The station manager and I firmly
believe in Ogg Vorbis. We already run transcodes of the 56k MP3 stream so
modem listeners have the opportunity to hear stereo. We'd like to change
our primary stream to Vorbis ultimately, but that will involve overcoming
a number of challenges, not the least of which will be getting all the
broadcasters to

Google Summer of Code projects for Speex
Hi students (non-students may skip this)!
As some of you may be aware, the deadline for the Google Summer of Code
(http://code.google.com/soc/) program is approaching quickly (March
24th). For those interested, there are two Speex-related projects
(below) and lots more in Xiph.Org in general (see

New Theora and Vorbis plugins available for RealPlayer 10
Hi All,
I've just released new versions of the Helix Theora and Vorbis plugins. The
major feature of this release is adding chaining support. The plugins play
Vorbis only, Theora only, and Vorbis/Theora chained files. It also tries it's
best to play files that mix these 3 types of stream groups.
I have also fixed a few Theora bugs. The Theora plugin now properly honors
the clipping

Extracting sample count from a Vorbis packet
I was wondering if there was a way to determine the number of samples in a
Vorbis packet without having to decode the whole thing? The reason I'm
asking this is because I'm thinking about implementing the current Vorbis
RTP draft for Helix. The problem is that the Ogg pages only contain a
single timestamp. If I want to split up the Vorbis packets on different
boundries than the Ogg

Where's TrueCast5?
Supposedly On2 transferred their Video Recorder and TrueCast5 streaming server into opensource along with VP3. Theora is obviously the VP3 project, and while I can find nothing on Xiph about it, the recorder source is offered on vp3.com; but I can find nothing on Xiph or vp3.com about what happened to Truecast5. I contacted On2 about whether TrueCast5 was really going to be open source, and they

Anybody tried implementing different streaming protocols yet?
Hi,
does anybody know if somebody tried implementing things like rtsp, mms or
similar in icecast so far? I heard some rumors from people complaining
transmissions over http or not "that secure" because using a wget you can
easily write them to disk. They suggested using real servers or something - but
I wonder if its (easy?) possible to implement another already widely used

Help wanted! - Icecast is applying for Google Summer of Code through Xiph.org
Hi everyone,
We've decided to apply for this year's Google Summer of Code. Xiph.org
has taken part before, so we hope to get at least one or two, maybe even
3 students.
If we get chosen we need project ideas and mentors though. We've already
started to collect some ideas that would hopefully be sized for students

Maybe another and easier way would be to implement the ogg vorbis
format in Real Networks "open sourced" Helix streaming server
