Next step of Hardware Theora
Hello,
First of all, I would like to say that my work that I wrote in the other
email would be to do in hardware the functions: CopyRecon, LoopFilter and
UpdateUMVBorder. These are modules that Leonardo had made, but it wasn't ok
in FPGA. When I had a chat with Leonardo we were thinking in rewrite these
module for to do this running in FPGA (to debug in a Hardware level is much

Theora running on FPGA
Great news! Theora is running on FPGA.
After almost a year of a great effort we have Theora validated on
FPGA. Now I will try to integrated the hardware with a video
controller to see the video!
I completely implemented the ExpandBlock, CopyRecon, LoopFilter and
UpdateUMVBorder functions.
The ReconRefFrames function was partially implemented and the part
before will run on a software compiled

16 bits, cast on idct function
Hi all,
Just a stupid question
The IDctSlow function on file idct.c has this line :
ip[0] = (ogg_int16_t)((_Gd + _Cd ) >> 0);
The ip[0] , _Gd and _Cd are of type ogg_int32_t
My question is:
The result of (_Gd + _Cd) can be a number with more than 16 bits ?
(yes, it can be because they are int32, but the algorithm could
guarantee something about that... I dont know...)

Benchmarks Inline-ASM vs. Intrinsics
Hi folks, FYI:
I've finally made some benchmarks for inline-assembler versus intrinsic
based mmx code.
I've just applied the changes to the fragment reconstruction functions
as writing the IDCT and loopfilter have not been ported yet.
Nevertheless here are some numbers:
As a baseline I'll take the current version from the trunk with all
inline assembler functions enabled. Lower

Development status?
Hello,
just by curiosity, what is the current development
status of theora? (TODOs, etc.) Only the documentation
still left out? :-)

MMX and extended-MMX acceleration patch for encoding
Hello,
attached is a gzipped patch file to the lib/mcomp.c source file of theora
(as of AnonCVS current version) that implements MMX and extended-MMX
optimizations in the most frequently used functions of the encoder (as
shown by gprof).
This is more a proof of concept than a real request for inclusion into the
source tree. My personal intent was more to look deeper into the MMX
instruction set

Building in a separate build tree
Hello,
apparently, the following one-liner patch
to automake file "lib/Makefile.am" is needed
to build theora in a separate build directory.
This may be convenient to build several versions
of the library based on the same source tree, or
just to keep the source tree clean.
Note too that -I. is not needed, automake does
an implicit -I$(srcdir) IIRC.

Theora logo master
Hello
I would like to ask if it's possible to display Theora logo at
http://ronja.twibright.com/sw.php
I use Theora for automatically generated videos at
http://ronja.twibright.com/3d/
If yes can I please have the master of the logo? I cannot use the small logo you have
on the website.
Thanks,

idct8x8 C version in libtheora1.1 release
When using the IDCT routines, the C version [ lib/idct.c:
oc_idct8x8_c(ogg_int16_t _y[64],int _last_zzi)] in libtheora 1.1.1, the
decoded image is garbled. Is it functionally equivalent to the MMX optimized
version [lib/x86/mmxidct.c: oc_idct8x8_mmx(ogg_int16_t _y[64],int
_last_zzi)] ?
I used some of the Theora video files from here:

VP3 IDCT
Hi,
Is there anything special I need to know about VP3's IDCT? I mean
besides the fact that there are separate IDCTs to handle sparse
coefficient matrices. Are the IDCT functions mathematically equivalent to
any textbook IDCT functions?
Thanks...

Multi-thread Theora Decoder
Hi all,
Does Theora Community have an interest in a multi-thread decoder implementation?
I'm starting to work with multi-thread and I thought that Theora
Decoder is a good choice for me, because I had been working with it in
a FPGA implementation and I have experience with the library.
I'm thinking in working with LoopFilter at first. Do you think I could
start with it or there is a

MMX IDCT for theora-exp
Hello,
I'm attaching IDCT MMX patch. I reused IDCT from theora-a3-MMXd.zip.
It should work on 64bit X86 platform too.
Here is most used functions when playing video with jet aircrafts (gripen)
Ogg logical stream 310b2968 is Theora 720x480 29.97 fps video
Encoded frame content is 720x480 with 0x0 offset
I can play this video with like 200-300 frame drops on Athlon XP 1700+

Bug in reference idct.
Hi
The Theora specification states, in section 7.9.3 ("The 1D Inverse DCT")
steps 14-16:
14. Assign T[5] the value T[4] - T[5].
15. Truncate T[5] to a 16-bit representation by dropping any higher-order
bits.
16. Assign T[5] the value C4 * (-T[5]) >> 16.
However, the relevant section of code in the reference decoder
(lib/dec/idct.c line 50) is:

Changing the IDCT spec
So, in preparation for some decoder optimization work planned by Rudolf
Marek, the subject of the size of the registers needed in the IDCT
came up.
The current spec language ensures that the result is exactly compatible
with the C code for VP3. This language requires that some of the
arguments to the multiplies be 17 or 18 bits, because they need to hold
the sum or difference of two 16-bit

Multi-Thread Theora Encoder
Hello,
I'm happy to announce I developed a Multi-Threaded version of the
Theora encoder. I changed the Motion Vector Search part of the
algorithm to be executed in parallel.
I've chosen the Motion search part after a careful set of profilings
that shown that the Motion Vector Search is responsible by 70% of
CPU-time on average and up to 95% of CPU-time in some cases. I also
have chosen

idct/fdct.c function calls
Hi.
I am trying to find calls of idct/fdct.c functions by tracing png2theora.c calls.
But found only:
analyze.c:oc_dct_cost2()
Where and when idct/fdct/mmxidct/mmxfdct.c functions are used?
Mentions of "dct" word:

ffmpeg2theora multi-threading
Is there a way to use multi-threading with ffmpeg2theora? Pretty much any
type i'm ok with, including multi-threaded theora encoding or multi-threaded
ffmpeg decoding, or using half of my cpu cores on ffmpeg decoding and the
other half on theora encoding. Is there a way to do multithreaded thoera
encoding?
