vorbis-tools-1.1.1 build mechanism stubbornly refuses to build with FLAC, ogg123, speex
Hello, I am trying build vorbis-tools-1.1.1 in the framework of my tool (see signature). The essence of the tools is that it builds and install everything locally, and, of course, it uses the available mechanisms to specify search paths for both headers and libraries; the tool first builds dependencies abd then the target itself. So, for example, 'configure' for vorbis-tools-1.1.1 is

mpeg4/xvid/divx vs. theora
Hi there, I have an elementary question. Although theora can be placed in the same class of codecs as MPEG-1, -2, -4 why is there no greater usage of this codec? On the bigger part of web sites trailers or short videos are encoded with some mpeg codec. Why is theora still so rarely used and unfamiliar although it perfomes very well from my point of view? Is it, because - the whole mpeg family is

up-to-date debian packages?
The debian (unstable) libtheora and libogg packages are a little out of date. I was wondering if anybody had made their own packages for libogg-1.1.1 and libtheora-1.0alpha4. If not, I'll go ahead and package them up and put them up on my own debian repository or something, and let you guys know where to get them. But if somebody has already done that, let me know. thanks, Tim

Using decoding vorebis from a Vorbis / Theora Video
I am trying to write a media player in c# which will be able to play .ogg video files which contain Theora video and Vorbis audio streams. Currently I am using LibOgg and LibTheora (via a SWIG generated wrapper). This currently is able to decode the video and output it to the screen. I would like to use LibVorbis to decode the audio stream. Looking at the documentation it looks like I have to use

compile libvorbis using mingw?
I downloaded libogg-1.1.2 and libvorbis-1.1.0, and want to compile them using mingw32. In libogg-1.1.2 directory, 'sh configure --prefix=/mingw' and 'make' and 'make install' works smoothly. It create libogg.a, ligogg.dll.a, libogg.la in my /mingw/lib and header files in /mingw/include/ogg, so I think the gcc compiler will find them easily. After switching to

Building theora
Hello, I'm trying to get theora built. However there is not a page listing what depdencies there are. Would it be possible to have a developers page with the point release tarballs etc? (There is subversion access, but I do not have subversion for my OS). I could not find libtheora release, only an alpha, this wasn't very clear, it has been released now I think. The libogg and

c++ Wav->ogg encoder
Hi I'm new with ogg and also with using third party libraries. I'm making a C++ PocketPC program and I need a simple wav->ogg encoder function. But as I have tried to use ogg vorbis libraries I don't know what or how to use them. I think that best way would be to use libogg 1.1.3 and libvorbis 1.1.2. Do I even need both of them, since I only need to have capability of

Cannot build ices0/libshout2 on Mac OSX 10.4.2
Hi - I'm rebuilding my OSX system and I can't get ices0 to build - or to be more exact, can't get libshout2 to build. I started by using DarwinPorts, and icecast2 & libogg & libvorbis seemed to build OK. The install of ices0 then gave up at the libshout2 config stage with output like this: [...] checking for libvorbis... ok checking for struct ovectl_ratemanage_arg... no
