Status of Windows builds for libvorbis/libogg
Hi all,
I've just done a quick check of the libvorbis Visual C++ 6.0 project on
Windows, and am happy to say that both libvorbis and libogg build fine.
(Theora isn't quite so lucky -- see the theora-dev mailing list for
details on that.) There are two suggestions I can make, though:
1. To build properly, the directories must be checked out with
certain names, and in paths

Windows SDK not up to speed
Hello,
Being that this is my first post here and my first ever post on a
mailing list, I hope I am doing everything right! Anyways, basically I
have joined this mailing list because I have a concern/question.
Why is the Windows SDK at version 1.0.1 when the Linux/Unix library is
at 1.1.0? If this is a number difference and it is really the same
thing, I apologize. But, if it is that the

Directshow filters 0.64.7878
Updated again... theora works and seeks properly (not to keyframe) in WMP 9
and 10.
You can encode from a bunch of onew input types like RGB32, RGB24, IYUV etc.
And fixed a bug that was stopping the filters being used in a activeX
control in an IE browser.

Enjoy,

New Directshow filters preview...
I have been developing some directshow filters for ogg, and vorbis and speex... currently i have an ogg demux filter and a speex/vorbis decoding filter. In this pre-release only vorbis is operational... but the speex decoder is pretty much done... i jsut need to tweak the demux filter so that it can negotiate a speex connection with the other filter. Just though some people might find them useful

Directshow filters update - 0.66.8063
Another update to these filters... www.illiminable.com/ogg/
Here's the chagnes...
* FLAC can now be muxed into a multi-stream file.
* Now supports both the new Ogg FLAC (1.1.1) and the old Ogg FLAC (still not
native FLAC)
* Fixed the explorer problem by removing the offending registry key at
installation
* Removed a heap of memory leaks, WMP should run a fair bit leaner now
* Some internal

possible libogg bug holding up Ogg FLAC
I wish I would have come across this in time for the libogg-1.1.1
release... Maybe I'm doing something wrong but here it is.
One FLAC compressed frame becomes one packet when encapsulated in
Ogg, and FLAC packets can be much larger than the nominal 4k page
size. For CD audio they are usually 10-15Kbytes. Imagine this
Ogg stream where the lines denote page boundaries and the x's

Binaries for Visual Studio.NET?
I apologize for what's surely a common question, but the Xiph
archive-searcher seems broken, and all my other searches have come up
dry. Anyway, my question is:
Are there any Theora binaries available for Visual Studio.NET?
Alternatively, how do I build Theora using Visual Studio.NET? I tried
using "\win32\theora_static.dsp", but VS.NET claimed it was corrupt
and couldn't

up-to-date debian packages?
The debian (unstable) libtheora and libogg packages are a little out
of date. I was wondering if anybody had made their own packages for
libogg-1.1.1 and libtheora-1.0alpha4.
If not, I'll go ahead and package them up and put them up on my own
debian repository or something, and let you guys know where to get
them.
But if somebody has already done that, let me know.
thanks,
Tim

cmake build support for libogg
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256
Alexey.Petruchik has submitted a cmake build file for libogg.
https://github.com/xiph/ogg/pull/6
I'm curious how many people here would find this useful, particularly
Visual Studio users. I don't object in principle, but I'm wary of
adding yet another build description which would need to be maintained.

Timestamps...
Since we've been debating the merits of start or end timestamping... i'm
curious why the page doesn't have both stamps ?
That would solve the problems for all parties wouldn't it ?
It's not like the overhead is huge... less than 0.1%... so on the average
audio file thats 5 megs.... it's a 5k increase, which pretty much
insignificant. Even on a 1gig video file it's

Decoding without read callbacks.
Hey i've recently written some directshow filters for ogg vorbis and speex
(www.illiminable.com/ogg/) and i thought i might add flac too... i've had a
quick look at the C++ api and it appears that the decoding works by having a
read callback to get it's data.
In directshow everything is pushed into the decoder it can't ask for data
when it wants... i'm just wondering if there

Quicktime + FLAC?
If i could find some good documentation on quicktime, i'd probably give it a
shot... since i already have most of the infrastructure already for
directshow.
I had a look a few times for detailed info on quicktime, and it all looked
pretty painful.
Not to mention all the base media handler code provided for the sdk, says
not suitable for bitrates greater than like 32kpbs which is useless

getting started
I am giving serious consideration to abandoning waveOut multimedia and the wav format, for most of the audio in my C++/MFC project. However, I've never done any programming with a codec, and I still can't see how to step into Ogg Vorbis. If I convert all my wav files to ogg, there seem to be two major issues I'm facing:
1) What exactly will I replace my waveOut functions with?
2)
