perception of graphical data
Hello,
I apologize that this is off-topic. I am seeking information on
perception of graphical data, in an effort to improve the plots I
produce. Would anyone point me to literature reviews in this area? (Or
keywords to try on google?) Is this located somewhere near cognitive
science, psychology, human factors research?
For example, some specific questions I have are:

Why does ActiveRecord allow perception of success when updating an ID, however it doesn't really work(i.e. no change in database)?
Hi,
Why does ActiveRecord allow perception of success when updating an ID,
however it doesn''t really work(i.e. no change in database)?
Here''s an example. The update of "id" versus update of a non-existent
attribute.

speeding up perception
Dear R developers: R is supposed to be slow for iterative
calculations. actually, it isn't. matrix operations are fast. it is
data frame operations that are slow.
R <- 1000
C <- 1000
example <- function(m) {
cat("rows: "); cat(system.time( for (r in 1:R) m[r,20] <-
sqrt(abs(m[r,20])) + rnorm(1) ), "\n")

Hi,
I need your help.
I have a vector of numbers reflecting the switch in the perception of a
figure. For a certain period I have positive numbers (which reflect the
perception A) then the perception changes and I have negative numbers
(perception B), and so on for 40000 iterations. I need to take the rate of
this switch for my analysis. Namely, I need a new vector with numbers which

wine1.3.28 broken msvcp90.dll
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and the wine1.3 ppa (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa). I upgraded this morning using the normal update manager, and I went to run Photoshop CS5 which has been working flawlessly for months, it broke. According to /var/log/apt/term.log I updated from wine1.3.26 to wine1.3.28.
I get this error:

Photoshop CS2 Crash under Wine, "Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."
I recently came across a post (circa jan-feb 2008) where a user had encountered a fatal and unrecoverable crash when starting Photoshop for the second or subsequent time.
I've noticed that this issue has happened to many people, myself included while installing it on someone's system today, and that, while there is a short-term workaround (noted below), nobody has yet posted an actual

Adobe Photoshop uses wrong permissions when saving
That doesn't help my version of the problem, though. My create mask is 701,
but Photoshop is creating files with permissions 777.

Adobe Photoshop 7 Problems
I have Wine 20041019 and have done all the configuration with Wine tools.
Then I Installed Photoshop 7 by executing ~/bin/dos then going to the
cdrom drive and running the setup executable. The setup went fine and
photoshop was installed.
Then I simulated a windows reboot from wine tools.
Then i again executed ~/bin/dos and went to the place where i

Locking issue with Lightroom and Photoshop
Hi folks,
I have an issue at a weird confluence of macOS Mojave's "nsmb" client,
Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and Samba 4.7.6-Ubuntu. Since I don't have
much control over Apple or Adobe software, I'm hoping there's some smb.conf
magic (or other sage advice) that might help me out of this jam. For
reference, Samba is configured for SMB2-only access (i.e. durable file

monitor photoshop
Hi!
I'm running a test with Wine 0.9.51 on SuSe 9.1 and Photoshop CS (1) and
everything works perfectly (even working with big files of 1 GB and
launching Image Ready) BUT:
How do I use a CUSTOM Monitor Profile with Photoshop and Wine ?
There seems to be no way to assign a monitor profile to the Wine system
(as in Windows "control panel"), Photoshop just uses "sRGB ...

Photoshop 5 troubles with samba
Hi. Having the following trouble with samba 1.9.18p10:
In Photoshop 5, doing a File-Open and selecting a file intermittently
produces an error from Photoshop:
"The file cannot be opened because it is in use or was not closed
properly" (<-- that's from memory so it may not be the exact
wording).
What is even wierder is this. If I choose a filename from the recent

Upgrading breaks previous configuration?
So far, I have been installing each windows program to a separate wine directory, thus avoiding that one program creates problems for another. For instance Photoshop CS 2 is in .photoshop_wine, C?sar 3 is .caesar3_wine, etc.
So far I have had a number of programs running great, no problems. But today I got an error that I tried googling to no avail:
Code:

Adobe Photoshop CS and CS2
hello,
I am Running FreeBSD 7.0 and the latest version of wine, wine-0.9.59
I want to run any version of Photoshop and the only 2 I have is CS and
CS2, they both installed perfect
but they both will not startup they crash while the splash screen is
up, here is my log.
I did install times32.exe if that matters, I am hoping there is a
simple fix to this.
