Closed Captioning
fyi all -- MPlayer (www.mplayerhq.hu) has very extensive CC support. It might be worth finding out how they do it. We looked into this about a year ago for a project and I recall there were a number of different standards, as this thread attests. -dan > -----Original Message----- > From: David Siebert [mailto:dsiebert@eclipsecat.com] > Sent: Thursday, December 05, 2002 9:22 AM >

Using sub to get captions in barplots
All, I've been using "sub" (subtitle) instead of "main" such that captions are below figures produced by xyplot. This works fine and captions are on a single line. However, when I try this for bar plots with error bars (altering the error.bars function form Crawley's The R Book, see below), the captions are split on more than 1 line. Is there a way to get the

W3C Video on the Web Workshop
List, The W3C will host a workshop to discuss video on the Web in 12-13 December 2007, San Jose, California. I think it's important that someone from Xiph, or an enthusiastic fan of Theora would participate. There is no participation fee and you do not need to be a W3C member to participate, so if you are in the area why not consider going? You only have to register to participate. All

printing captions in multiple panes
Dear List, I would like to add captions to a set of graphics. The graphs are each composed of two scatter plots in an upper and lower pane. I'd like to add a caption below the lower pane. The troubel I'm hitting is that in order to fit the caption using mtext, I must increase the margins for both panes-- these shrinks my plots considerably and leaves a big blank area. The second trouble

captions for than one figure
Hi, I would like to have four plots plotted in the one figure and under each plot the caption (a) ... (d). Using mtext I can get so far: > plot(1:10, exp(1:10), log = "y", xlab = "xlab") > mtext("(a)",side=1,line=4.5) > plot(1:10, exp(1:10), log = "y", xlab = "xlab") > mtext("(b)",side=1,line=4.5) > plot(1:10,

Sorting of captions on axes
Hello, I think this might be a beginner question, but I couldn't find the answer in the manual... http://www.nabble.com/file/p14618947/at-modality.png I created this image with R by using the following code: modality <- read.table("results.table", header=TRUE, sep=",") color <-

Ogg/Spots and Ogg/MNG
Hi, are these two dead, or just progressing slowly ? The only code I've seen about Ogg/MNG was a player in ogg-tools, and I've seen nothing for Ogg/Spots. I'd looked at those before adding bitmaps to Kate, and I went back to that a few days ago (storing subtitles as images from a dvd - works great in vlc, but I store images without compression). If they are dead, I'd be inclined

putting the video into ogg multimedia
With both vorbis and libmng nearing stable status, I've been thinking about combining the two to make a real multimedia format. What would be involved in embedding mng in an ogg bitstream? From what I've read of the documentation, there doesn't seem to be any codec-enumeration system. Do we just interleave the packets and let the player guess based on the headers which codec to try? I

ogg pic format (again).. here's why
I sent a little mail some time ago asking if there was going to be an ogg pic-format, and you replied that PNG, MNG and JNG is good enough (sorry for this late answer btw).. But, consider this: The ogg video-format (tarkin ? where do you get these names from anyway ? :) ) needs a way to compress its frames. Are you going to use MNG for that ? :) .. If you had an ogg pic format, that format could

Hmisc labels and captions in latex.list()
I am trying to feed a list to latex to use with SWeave, and the list comes from contents(). Since it is a list, a caption and label are generated by latex.list - these are not overridden by setting the parameters (such as caption='myCaption', label='myLabel'). I must clearly be missing something - is there no way to set a caption or label with the latex() function when
