Freedom-friendly video hardware community
Our discussion in the "Theora Camcorder" thread has been great, but I
didn't see a direction evolve for action yet. So, I'd like to propose
the creation of a community website that will be focused specifically on
this kind of thing, partnered with the Xiph Foundation. I'm also more
than happy to host said website, as I have more than ample server
capacity for that.
I just

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
In the discussion of having a freedom-friendly camcorder or other video
device, we discussed the idea of using intra-only Theora video to make
post-recording editing a much easier process, allowing things like
frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video
again, thus incurring loss.
I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had
speculated that

Webcam streaming with ptalarbvorm
Hey all! I'm sure you've all been missing my webcam stream, so I
decided to start it up again (also, I wanted to do it for my family
overseas).
However, this time, I'm doing things a little bit differently. For
starters, the encoder is the current (as of about an hour ago)
ptalarbvorm branch which is destined to become libtheora 1.2. Another
difference is that I'm using

Update on Ptalarbvorm
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone closer to the work happening in the
Ptalarbvorm branch could be so kind as to provide a little update on
progress? I've heard tidbits from around the web that the improvement
over 1.1 is at least as much as 1.1 was itself over 1.0.
I know that myself and many others found Monty's occasional updates on
Thusnedla development to be absolutely fascinating

NHW Image codec
Hello,
Ok, and that's too many work to review a source code.In my codec, I have 3
compression schemes, I think 2 are not patented, but the third... I don't
know.For the rest, I think my codec is patent-free (I don't use
SPIHT,EZW,zerotree methods), even the wavelet transform is new and don't
use the lifting scheme nor the convolution product.
Else, if you found time to review the

Google to Open-source VP8 for HTML5 Video
"Google will soon make its VP8 video codec open source, we?ve learned from multiple sources. The company is scheduled to officially announce the release at its Google I/O developers conference next month, a source with knowledge of the announcement said. And with that release, Mozilla ? maker of the Firefox browser ? and Google Chrome are expected to also announce support for HTML5 video

NHW Image codec
Hello,
Yes, that's right.I still think that it would have more weight if I could
claim that Xiph has reviewed the source code and find that the NHW codec is
royalty/patent-free (better than me alone claiming this...).Maybe it was in
this sense that Ralph Giles answered me?
Cheers,

Hello everyone!
My name is Basil Mohamed Gohar, and I'm an avid free software user &
advocate. I've been using Theora for years as I strongly believe
there is an urgent need for free-as-in-freedom multimedia codecs. The
recent improvements in Thusnelda encoder have encouraged me to become
more actively involved, so I've joined both

Theora for webcam/conferencing use
Hey Theorans,
Yesterday and today I decided to try out broadcasting a video stream
using Theora from my computer's built-in webcam. I was pleasantly
surprised to find that, while maintaining a rate of less than 150kbps,
the stream was of quite a suitable quality sending 640x480 video at 15
frames per second. For now, this is video only, by the way, I did not
include any audio in the stream

Theora blurriness in Windows players
I just finished using my mother's PC which is running Windows XP. I
downloaded & installed, or already had installed, the latest versions of
VLC Media Player (1.0.5), Media Player Classic - Home Theater (last
release was in August 2009), Miro (already installed), Mozilla Firefox
(3.6), Google Chrome (latest from website today), Opera (10.50 Alpha,
latest build from the website), and

Don't wait on testing results from me

Hey all,
I'm a bit disappointed, but it seems that I won't be able to get all
the testing results that I wanted for the new vs. old Theora encoders
done this week. I am rather busy with some family matter and we're
also going to be moving from Malaysia back to the US shortly,
God-willing, so things are a bit hectic here. I have done

Android App for Icecast Administration
Yeah, the app will probably only be for viewing statistics and other
Icecast data - and not for "managing" or modifying the server since it
isn't possible from the Web interface.
Any suggestions for what Icecast data the app should display?

Live webcam stream with Theora
Hey all,
I've setup a simple page that just displays a live webcam stream of me
at work, and it supposedly falls back onto Cortado if your browser
doesn't support the <video> tag. The URL is here:
http://media.basilgohar.com/stream/
There's been a lot of talk about live streaming and low bitrate
streams. Here is my command line (I've posted this before):

Good sources for encoding tests

Since I'm planning to finish my encoding tests that Ralph asked me to
do a while ago after I return to the US (God-willing!), I thought I'd
throw out a request to other more-experienced video folks. Please
recommend to me any good sources (freely and/or legally available)
that I can use for my testing of the encode/decode speeds as well as

VP8
Patenting a mathematical formula is NOT creating a machine nor is it unique. For example. 2+2=4... apples + apples^2= given outcome. I want to patent this. It's stupid to patent something like that. The same is true for formula algorithms. Algorithms occur in nature. Thus should not be patented. Now, Volley G Mathison inventor of the Electropsychometer had a machine that he could patent. A
