RFC: I would like to contribute with SoC
[Resending since I sent my first mail before subscribing and I think it didn't went through. I apologize if you got this twice.] Hello everyone, I would like to participate as a student in google Summer of Code and I was very excited to discover that Xiph is one of the mentoring organizations, because I am a big fan of both Vorbis and Theora. So I would love to contribute to a Xiph.org

Google is acquiring On2
FYI, Google is acquiring On2: <http://www.betanews.com/article/Future-of-open-Web-video-may-change-with-Google-acquisition-of-On2/1249481107> Also on Slashdot: <http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/08/05/1742249> Anyone knows what, if anything, this means for Theora, open video and/or the Xiph.Org Foundation? Wild speculation: considering that they complained about the

libtheora 1.0 alpha8 released, beta1 imminent
Hello, it's a great pleasure for me to announce the availability of libtheora alpha8 and the imminent availability of beta1. http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/theora/libtheora-1.0alpha8.tar.gz alpha8 brings a completely new decoder (feature complete, lifted from derf's theora-exp) and additional control over the encoder (applications now can specify their own set of quantization

yuv - rgb conversion without contrast decrease.
Hello list, When I convert an yuv pixel into rgb using the recipies in http://www.fourcc.org/fccyvrgb.php I get an accurate color conversion but the contrast seems to be decreased. If i write, e.g., the pixel directly into an sdl yuv_overlay, I get a well-contrasted frame, however, if I convert the pixel to rgb and call SDL_MapRGB, I get a contrast-decreased frame. Thanks, Ribamar

Freedom-friendly video hardware community
Our discussion in the "Theora Camcorder" thread has been great, but I didn't see a direction evolve for action yet. So, I'd like to propose the creation of a community website that will be focused specifically on this kind of thing, partnered with the Xiph Foundation. I'm also more than happy to host said website, as I have more than ample server capacity for that. I just

Ogg is great!! Tools: ffmpeg2theora, oggz
Hi, I just wanted to say that I've recently become a fan off the ogg movie format. I haven't really done much with video before, but I recently got a Canon DSLR which can record HD movies at 30 fps, 720p. The resulting files are great, but too large to share over the web. After trying a few different encoding tools, I quickly found that ffmpeg2theora is super easy to use, gives good

libtheora 1.1alpha2 (thusnelda) release
I'm pleased to announce the second alpha release of our next generation encoder for the free Theora video format, codename "thusnelda". The second release incorporates a number of changes which improve both compression efficiency and execution speed. This release includes working MSVC project files, but the assembly optimization hasn't yet been ported, so performance there will

Windows command-line transcoder for Theora
Hi All, Should anyone be looking for one, here's a DirectShow-based command-line transcoder for Theora: http://www.eddiana.com/?totheora.html It can do basic video transcoding, as well as scale video, watermark video with a graphic, grab frame stills, capture from video sources, and perform a couple color transformations. Slideshow with Ken-Burns Effect
Hi everybody, I've had some time and so I added a slideshow creator with the Ken-Burns-Effect to the Ogg Video Tools. Feel free to visit the following page: http://www.server.streamnik.de:88/test.html It's best viewed with the Mozilla Firefox 3.1 Beta 2, but a Cortado Player is also available for the other browsers. The code is actually not publically available, as I would like to add

Btrfs questions
i am looking at using btrfs for a new project and i have a few questions:     * i have heard that as it currently stands Btrfs has some issues to be used as a Lustre file system; is he aware of the issues and any plans to address these and integrate Btrfs in to Lustre     * any plans to support native clustering on Btrfs     * on ZFS the ZIL is a separate device, any plans to implement a the

ThePirateBay.org take advantage of HTML5's <VIDEO>
Word just came in from TorrentFreak that ThePirateBay.org have been working on a streaming video website for countless months that takes advantage of the free media formats OGG, Theora and Vorbis. While filesharing in itself is a controversial subject, this will place HTML5's <VIDEO> and <AUDIO> tag--and more importantly the OGG Theora+Vorbis multimedia format--in the

FFMPEG2THEORA 0.26 / BIG Theora testing / BUG in players or Lib
I tested the new FFMPEG2THEORA 0.26 and some players. 1. Biggest bug: http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/temp/push5tru.zi7 encodes into http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/temp/push5tru.ogv the problem: it doesn't play well. MPLAYER reacts very badly, reports "invalid frames" and HANGS (known issue ???). But in VLC there is also a problem, less severe:

Encoding QT to Theora
Hi, We're currently editing a video advertizing Firefox and plan to release it exclusively encoded with Theora during a couple of days (before it hits YouTube, DailyMotion...). Editing is done with Final Cut Pro so sources are QT files. What is your experience of encoding QT to Theora? For the time being we are not down to testing xiphQT so we're looking for general advice. Thank you
