Theora encoding in FFmpeg
(Cross posted to theora-dev@xiph.org and ffmpeg-devel@mplayerhq.hu) I am working towards adding Theora encoding support to libavcodec in FFmpeg. I am doing this by simply calling libtheora from libavcodec. I am at the point where I can execute: "./ffmpeg -v 100 -i test.wmv -f avi -an -vcodec theora -b 1000000 -y test.avi" I get some whirring and an output file written. My calls to

AVI Theora?
Hello, It's been a little while, but I've got some new info. I've tried doing this with Mencoder, ffmpeg, VLC player, and AVIdemux. None work. When I try to either convert a theora(ogm/ogv) file to AVI, while using?variations of "-vcodec copy" to keep theora comression, or just compress an AVI with Theora, it does one of several things, depending on settings and the program

A/V sync in Theora
Hi, I've been thinking about how a Theora encoder could be integrated into mencoder or transcode and I'm not sure whether I understand the A/V sync strategy of Theora/Vorbis correctly. When transcoding from some video format (ie MPEG2 or DivX), at least some images of the video stream will have time stamps, as well as the fragments of the audio stream. Or at least time stamps can be

OGG/OGM media container
Hi all, Xiph aims at developing open-standards media formats. Though xiph.org tells about vorbis/theora/flac/speex, nothing is mentioned about container to use (that is ogg/ogm). I have a few questions Is there a difference between ogg and ogm? I guess its only the extension that is different and everything else is same. Some tools (like ogmtools) are available to create ogm files. What is

Misc: handycam raw to ogg / DVD to ogg
Hi, I have two questions 1) How can I convert a raw miniDV file to ogg? I have made a continuation to the conference I organised two years ago on gravitational waves Astrophysics and Relativity and I have a lot of miniDVs to be converted to ogg. I think I have seen the information before but, after looking for some one hour, I have given up. And, by the way, do you know how to dowload the file

Should Join Discussion - Fwd: [whatwg] Give guidance about RFC 4281 codecs parameter
Hello, You guys might want to join this discussion. (And maybe some others too.) On the WhatWG mailing list, there's been a fury of e-mails about adding a <video> element to HTML5. They're talking about codecs and containers now. It might be helpful to have your representatives there. And help shape things. See ya ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dave Singer

Piping AVI to ffmpeg2theora
I wish to transcode an AVI from 29fps to 15fps theora. I have tried many combinations. The nearest I have so far is to: 1) ffmpeg -i input.avi -f avi -vcodec rawvideo -acodec pcm_s16le -r 15 -ar 22050 -ac 1 intermediate.avi then 2) ./ffmpeg2theora-0.15.linux.bin -f avi -c1 -H 22050 -o out.ogg intermediate.avi This gives me an output I want, however, the intermediate uncompressed stage

Ffdshow-20042003 Theora support fixed.
Thought I'd pass this along for Theora users on the Windowzz platform. The latest alpha build of the ffdshow filter (20041003) on Sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/ Seems to have had theora, broken since the June/July unofficial builds, fixed. This build also connects nicely to Zen's Ogg splitter and also decodes Helix Producer encoded Ogg's well. The encoder side

playback rate of theora movie "honey"
I downloaded xiph.org's free theora-encoded movie called "honey", both the large and the small versions. I tried playing the small version on both a g4 450 "OS X" mac and a PIII 800mhz running WinXP. On both platforms I used VLC media player version 0.7.2 Neither one of these platforms could play the movie smoothly from the hard disk drive. There were several moments, that

Cannot connect matroska splitter to theora encoder
Hi everyone, I face a problem trying to encode a mkv file into theora using directshow filters I have a mkv file containing only video encoded in YUY2. I use the DirectShowNet Lib V2.1 ( <http://sourceforge.net/projects/directshownet/files/> http://sourceforge.net/projects/directshownet/files/) I use the matroska splitter directshow filter v1.0.2.9 (

Using Theora Micro-HOWTO
Okay, thanks to some stubbornness on my part and helpfulness on the part of people on this mailing list, I got the Ogg Theora alpha compiled up and installed and running. Yesterday, I went to the Prelinger archives (the public-domain video archive at www.archive.com) to find a high-quality original to re-encode as a test. The encoder worked just fine, and playback as well, and I thought I'd

Commercial use and distribution of Theora codec?
Hello, ? I know that Theora is marketed as patent-free and free to use for any purpose, but a fellow over at Xvid.com told me that Theora in fact is based on MPEG tech, and therefore has some deep elements that people might eventually go after me for if I use it to encode commercially distributed video, and bundle the decode files with the game. Besides? that, I belive the license of theora allows

Muxing a52/ac3 and Theora
Is there a program currently available that will correctly mux a52/ac3 streams and theora streams into an ogg container? I've tried oggzmerge, and it will mux ac3 into ogm and correctly create a new ogm from an existing theora file, but it doesn't seem to put the two together correctly.

Theora in Matroska
Hi all Currently Theora video in Matroska is not supported by Mplayer. To enable the support Michael Niedermayer has made the following proposal sometime back: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.mplayer.nut.devel/214 Appreciate if Theora developers could comment on that. Best Regards Unga ____________________________________________________________________________________ Get your

Proposal: An extension to rules all others Copyright Notice None. Public Domain. Abstract Extension flamewars surrounding media formats inside Ogg containers are a pain in the behind, cause problems in the adoption of said formats, and confuse users. This modest proposal directed at the maintainers of Vorbis, Theora, Speex and FLAC will suggest a solution to solve these issues (and others).
