That is interesting news. I always go on about mpeg4 and h264 as if
they are the ideal, wheras in an ideal world something like ogg theora

per-directory create mask
I have set a "create mask" that works well for most uses, but there are some
directories inside my shares where I need to make files read-only, and my
create mask makes every new file world-writable. Is there a way to specify a
different create mask for some specified directories?
I thought about making several shares with different create masks, but I'm
only allowed to make

Random intercept-slope correlation (nlme)
Dear list members,
I am working with a multilevel growth curve, that in its simplest form goes
like follows:
Yit = Ai + Bi t + eit (the error term is assumed to follow an AR(1)
autorregressive process)
One major topic in my research is the convergence in the values of Y over
time. Thus, I am interested in the relationship between the random effects
for the intercept and the slope, and I

OT: Difference between Ogg and NUT?
Hello,
(Sorry, this is a bit off-topic.)
I was reading some stuff and came across the NUT container data format.
(The NUT website is down... so I could not read up on it. But perhaps
someone here knows about it.)
Like Ogg and Matroska, NUT also seem to be a Free multimedia container data
format.
But how does it compare to Ogg (and even Matroska)? Why was it created when

Newbie Question
Hello,
(This is a newbie question. I skimmed though the mailing list archive to try
to find the answer, but didn't find anything. Maybe I'm just not looking for
the right thing.)
Are there any tools that could be used to convert a series of frames (stored
as JPEG's or something), for a movies, into a Theora file?
TIA
See ya

New theora streaming service
Hi all,
streamnik started a new video streaming internet service (IPTV-Stations). We
have actually started the "testing" period and would like to encourage some
theora/vorbis/ogg developers to test the stream against various players for
any problems.
if you like, visit:
http://www.streamnik.de
Actually the page is only in german, however we are working on an
international page.

Should Join Discussion - Fwd: [whatwg] Give guidance about RFC 4281 codecs parameter
Hello,
You guys might want to join this discussion. (And maybe some others too.)
On the WhatWG mailing list, there's been a fury of e-mails about
adding a <video> element to HTML5. They're talking about codecs and
containers now. It might be helpful to have your representatives
there. And help shape things.

VideoConference program
Well, finaly I have something pretty usable working. Actually it only works
if you have installed .Net 2.0 but I'll try to fix this and add a Linux and
OS X version.
Try it and give me some feedback :P

Quadbri Cellular Issue
Hello everybody, and first of all sorry for my poor English.
I'm having trouble with Quadbri installed on Asterisk
1.2.17-BRIstuffed-0.3.0-PRE-1y-e. Everything is working fine, except calling
to switched off or "out of coverage" cell phones. In this case I have to
wait 40 seconds until Asterisk tell me that "all circuits are busy now"
instead of receive cell phone

Can I recommend theora to my readers yet? Please?
Hi,
I'm working on updates to the WWW FAQ (okay, it's a little much
to use the singular in 2006, but it was the first!).
Embedded multimedia has been a sore spot for a while. I've been
recommending that people embed old-school MPEG, because it
works in all players. But it's awful. Terrible bitrates.
I'm on the verge of recommending SWF instead, even though
it's a hideous

Hi,
I just wanted to report that I organised a meeting last September and
we recorded all talks and I asked computer support to convert
everything into ogg theora... Maybe you want the link?? The talks are
also very interesting if you are interested in Astrophysics and black
holes...

New around - some questions (Cortado, editing Theora)
Hello,
I am maintaining different resources related to Ogg Theora, both as a
user and as a contributor to several local advocacy groups.
I had a couple of questions:
- Who should I ask / talk to about financing improvements to the Cortado
applet (namely: bigger / more visible controls for the seek functions) ?
- Are there any simple Ogg Theora editing tools or applications, similar
to avidemux

building an expression
Listers,
I am still attempting to apply regression results from one dataframe to
another. A significant problem in this process is that the new
dataframe is quite large and has a complex missing data structure which
differs from the 'in-sample' data.frame. Moreover, the equation
represents a time series simulation structure demanding that the
equation be applied iterative year by year.

evidence/timelines that show linux is "more secure"
I''m looking for some evidence, backup up with dates and references,
that shows that the Linux community responds to security problems
more quickly than other OS vendors, and thus might be considered
"more secure". A number of fairly high profile corporations are
starting to look for such information as they consider Linux as an
alternative solution to other UNIXes.
