Quicktime 2 Theora Transcoder's Nano-Howto
After a bunch of cumbersome testing I was able to transcode a Quicktime MOV file to OGG with theora and Vorbis. The method's a bit fumbly, but it works... It is automatable except for the initial audio decoding. Software used: Xine, oggenc, ffmpeg, ffmpeg2theora, oggzmerge Step 1: Get the video out of Quicktime ffmpeg -i infile.mov -b 5000 -f mpeg2video outfile.mpg Step 2: Get the video

Xiph QT Theora Codec
Taking a look ahead at your QT (OSX version) work, you have Theora Encoding and Decoding on the list. This could be very beneficial as many times the only way to get a constant frame-rate out of QT is to export (and for DV video recorded in QT, this can be a large issue). Another major issue is that the video coming from DV (at least the sources I have used) is almost always

using theora
Having built libtheora-1.0alpha3, I tried it out on a 46 second long, 161 MByte raw dv format video clip. First, I copied these lines from ogg-theora-microhowto.html <snip> mplayer -ao pcm -aofile stream.wav -vo null file_to_be_encoded.avi & mplayer -vo yuv4mpeg -ao null -nosound file_to_be_encoded.avi & encoder_example -v 1 -a 1 stream.wav stream.yuv > theora_file.ogg

XiphQT / Theora Questions
Hello, I hope this is not an inappropriate list for this. This is the list suggested by http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/ I use Linux exclusively at the moment and do not plan on buying a Mac, but I am working on a CMS including html5 media support. Patent licensing costs forbid decoding proprietary video formats on the server for transcode into Ogg Theora so I am looking for a way that non

ffmpeg2theora 0.25 synchronization issues when converting from .mov
Has anyone noticed this? I have a video made with Final Cut Pro, which I convert to .mov via Compressor. This .mov file plays back fine in Quicktime. But when I then use ffmpeg2theora to convert to ogv, the video seems to play back too fast compared to the audio (I'm using VLC 1.0.2, the latest I believe, to play back the ogv file, and I also have an app that uses the recently

TS from DVB-T to Theora + Vorbis
Hello, Could you kindly point me to some instruction, how to encode demuxed files (.m2v and .mp2) to .ogg (Theora + Vorbis)? I was trying to use ffmpeg2theora, but I don't know, how to put two files to ffmpeg2theora (one audio an one video) and did not found, how to mux them into one file? Exist a way, how to do two pass encoding? I'm using Ubuntu Fiesty Linux. Thank you, Jiri Navratil

FFMPEG2THEORA 0.26 / BIG Theora testing / BUG in players or Lib
I tested the new FFMPEG2THEORA 0.26 and some players. 1. Biggest bug: http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/temp/push5tru.zi7 encodes into http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/temp/push5tru.ogv the problem: it doesn't play well. MPLAYER reacts very badly, reports "invalid frames" and HANGS (known issue ???). But in VLC there is also a problem, less severe:

mixed interlaced content and ffmpeg2theora
dv file from minidv camera - interlaced. small dv created by imported jpeg images - not interlaced. seems that when I use ffmpeg2theora with deinterlace switch and reduce size, it works. But when the only reduction I am doing is to width (720x480 -> 640x480) the encoder ignores the naturally interlaced bit and uses the last de-interlaced frame. Since the small bit made from jpegs is a dv

Kino exports in theora format
Kino, a non-linear video editor for Linux, now exports in ogg theora format. I just posted a feature request at http://kino.schirmacher.de/ for a future version of Kino to edit video in native ogg theora format in addition to dv format. John

Encoding QT to Theora
Hi, We're currently editing a video advertizing Firefox and plan to release it exclusively encoded with Theora during a couple of days (before it hits YouTube, DailyMotion...). Editing is done with Final Cut Pro so sources are QT files. What is your experience of encoding QT to Theora? For the time being we are not down to testing xiphQT so we're looking for general advice. Thank you

Misc: handycam raw to ogg / DVD to ogg
Hi, I have two questions 1) How can I convert a raw miniDV file to ogg? I have made a continuation to the conference I organised two years ago on gravitational waves Astrophysics and Relativity and I have a lot of miniDVs to be converted to ogg. I think I have seen the information before but, after looking for some one hour, I have given up. And, by the way, do you know how to dowload the file

Piping AVI to ffmpeg2theora
I wish to transcode an AVI from 29fps to 15fps theora. I have tried many combinations. The nearest I have so far is to: 1) ffmpeg -i input.avi -f avi -vcodec rawvideo -acodec pcm_s16le -r 15 -ar 22050 -ac 1 intermediate.avi then 2) ./ffmpeg2theora-0.15.linux.bin -f avi -c1 -H 22050 -o out.ogg intermediate.avi This gives me an output I want, however, the intermediate uncompressed stage

Theora decoding problem on PowerPC
Hi, I'm attempting to decode Theora videos on a PowerPC running a Linux 2.6.19 kernel. The version of GCC I'm cross-compiling from is 3.4.4. The software versions I'm running are: libogg-1.1.3 libpng-1.2.20 libtheora-1.0beta1 libvorbis-1.2.0 These are all the latest I was able to download. Here's a back trace I got while running "dump_video" under

Hello, in case somebody wants to test Theora without compilation, feel free to use konvalo.org's setup. It includes mplayer with theora from svn 2004-09-21 with Wim Taymans' mmx-patches from August 2004 applied (there are mplayer and mplayer.theora-mmx, the latter with decoder mmx-patches from VP3HoSwiYO) and a theora-encoder script (a bit slower than ffmpeg2theora as it runs several

ffmpeg2theora with mmx patches is available on konvalo.org
Hello, ffmpeg2theora (with encoder mmx patches) is available on konvalo.org. You can run it on Linux (2.6.x), FreeBSD (5.x) and NetBSD (2.x) on Intel x86. ffmpeg2theora may be considered the recommended Theora encoder. The author of the program is Jan Gerber @ v2v.cc Those of you who already use Konvalo.org do not need to do anything, the program is in your PATH. Otherwise see
