Quicktime 2 Theora Transcoder's Nano-Howto
After a bunch of cumbersome testing I was able to transcode a Quicktime MOV file to OGG with theora and Vorbis. The method's a bit fumbly, but it works... It is automatable except for the initial audio decoding. Software used: Xine, oggenc, ffmpeg, ffmpeg2theora, oggzmerge Step 1: Get the video out of Quicktime ffmpeg -i infile.mov -b 5000 -f mpeg2video outfile.mpg Step 2: Get the video

Aspect ratio question
Hi, despite the warnings on the website ;-) I played with the current CVS source of theora on Windows 2000 w/ Microsoft Visual C++. The codec and the "experimental" example programs compiled fine. I also encoded a 33 MB MPEG2 (?) video (3 minute trailer) to a 14 MB .OGG using "mplayer -vo yuv4mpeg -ao pcm" and the "encoderwin" sample program, and play it with the

Building theora
Hello, I'm trying to get theora built. However there is not a page listing what depdencies there are. Would it be possible to have a developers page with the point release tarballs etc? (There is subversion access, but I do not have subversion for my OS). I could not find libtheora release, only an alpha, this wasn't very clear, it has been released now I think. The libogg and

theora-exp encoder issue
Hi, I'm switching from the mainstream theora trunk to the exp one and I encounter a problem with the encoder. Every video I encode are played like a 'mosaic', I do not know how to say that. The picture is just a bunch of coloured pixels. During the encoding process the video stream is defined like that: File stream.yuv is 320x240 15.00 fps 420 video. Why 420 ? Why not YUV like for

Too early to switch aspect scaling on?
Hello all. I've implemented aspect scaling in xine, but have it turned off by default, because it appears it isn't absolutely clear if the fields in theora should mean pixel or frame aspect yet. In a recent IRC discussion, it appears most felt that pixel aspect should be it. Would it be acceptable to turn this on in xine, or should I wait until you make some official decision about it?

playback rate of theora movie "honey"
I downloaded xiph.org's free theora-encoded movie called "honey", both the large and the small versions. I tried playing the small version on both a g4 450 "OS X" mac and a PIII 800mhz running WinXP. On both platforms I used VLC media player version 0.7.2 Neither one of these platforms could play the movie smoothly from the hard disk drive. There were several moments, that

Legalese. What is stride?
Hello all. I've been playing around with theora since it first entered CVS, and I like what I'm seeing. Today I've been fixing xine's theoraplugin to understand theora_info.frame_{width,height} and theora_info.offset_{x,y}. I only got it working after some experimenting and basically copying the code from player_example. A few questions related to this: 1. What are the legal

Building theora 1.1.1 with mingw-w64-gcc 7.1 and msys
Hi people, I fixed the problem by renaming the function and every instance of 'rint' to 'rint_az' (Round Int Away from Zero) and then encoder_example.c built successfully. Don't know if this needs to be patched upstream or not. Edgar On 6/1/2017 2:53 PM, Edgar Reynaldo wrote: > Hello, > > I recently attempted to build theora 1.1.1 with mingw-w64-gcc 7.1 and

Building theora 1.1.1 with mingw-w64-gcc 7.1 and msys
Hello, I recently attempted to build theora 1.1.1 with mingw-w64-gcc 7.1 and msys and it fails to build the encoder_example.c example program. There are multiple declarations of the function 'rint'. The source file created its own version of the function that rounds AWAY from zero. MinGW-W64 has its own version of the 'rint' function, which does not round away from zero.

Fix for Theora example encoder
Here is a patch that prevents the example encoder from rejecting some wav files that ffmpeg generates. The problem was that it wasn't properly handling the case where extra bytes were added to the header and they weren't a multiple of 4 bytes. This fixes that problem by getting the number of extra bytes in the header and reading that much data. Aaron Index: encoder_example.c

Theora running on FPGA
Great news! Theora is running on FPGA. After almost a year of a great effort we have Theora validated on FPGA. Now I will try to integrated the hardware with a video controller to see the video! I completely implemented the ExpandBlock, CopyRecon, LoopFilter and UpdateUMVBorder functions. The ReconRefFrames function was partially implemented and the part before will run on a software compiled

Tips for theora encoding?
Hi, I wrote a plugin to enable LiVES (a video editor) to encode theora/vorbis/ogg files. I'm looking for some advice towards improving quality. If someone would like to help me test this please note that you'll need MPlayer, ImageMagick, sox, the encoder_example from libtheora (somewhere in the PATH), and Python 2.3.0 (this is fairly all standard stuff). Consider the following clip:

Page breaks when encoding ogg/theora
Hi everyone, I'm trying to build theora encoding into my game engine. Essentially, I'd like to do something similar to png2theora.c, where I take individual screen shots of my game and encode them into a video. Because png2theora.c uses the legacy C API, I used encoder_example.c as a template instead. encoder_example.c seems to be the only code out there that actually uses the th_* API.

Using Theora Micro-HOWTO
Okay, thanks to some stubbornness on my part and helpfulness on the part of people on this mailing list, I got the Ogg Theora alpha compiled up and installed and running. Yesterday, I went to the Prelinger archives (the public-domain video archive at www.archive.com) to find a high-quality original to re-encode as a test. The encoder worked just fine, and playback as well, and I thought I'd
