theora optimizations
Hi everyone, I wanted to throw out some data points on some of the theora optimization efforts. There are a few different efforts going on and it would be nice to unify all of those into something that can live in the main branch and be kept uptodate, while making it easy for people that want to contribute specific optimisations (we have one eager new powerbook owner ready to give the ppc ones a

Theora on 1GHz G4 processor
I'd like to convert my DVD collection to Theora, but discovered that my good old powerbook (1GHz G4) can't keep up with it (tho a 1.2GHz P-III has no trouble with it): it seems to need a tiny bit more than 100% of CPU. I create my video files with Thoggen, at the largest possible size, with a quality setting of 50%. And I play them with VLC. Any hint of what I might want to try to do?

VP3 Compatibility and SIMD Optimizations
Hi, A few questions: Is libtheora strictly backward compatible with VP3? Can I set it up to shove raw VP3 data through and trust it to decode the same way as On2's open source code did, loop filters and all? Also, is libtheora just supposed to be a C-based reference implementation? I was looking through the code and noticed a distinct lack of any kind of optimizations. Naive tree-based

encoders
hi everybody! i have two questions: 1. which encoders do you recomend? i have tried most, and i am pretty unhappy with all of them :( . thoggen only works on linux and is very unstable (crashes always during the encoding process) and most frontends to encoder_example dont work or are very buggy. ogmrip also doenst look very promising since it seems to convert dvds into other lossy formats

updated some packages now some windows hang after open or close
I had a need on a centos 5.4 x86_64 box to try and run with a later totem. I desired to do this by source. After installing the packages below my system comes up, I thought everything was good. thunderbird comes up firefox comes up. totem works -------- however there seems to be an issue with closing or opening windows some random time later with all three programs. It gives the impression

copy/paste centos 6
I had to update all these packages on CentOS 6 for a project. Everything works great on CentOS 6 - except - Copy/Paste between applications. Anyone - know which application below might control that function? Example I cannot have firefox running and copy and paste text into thunderbird. Both applications - actually all applications work - I just cant copy/paste. I'm thinking I did not

segfault on amd64 with ffmpeg
Hi, and thank to you all for this great codec ! I have this bug on Debian Lenny with compiled packages of last svn versions of ffmpeg and libtheora. This seems to append only on the amd64 arch. Here is a valgrind log : pre-barreau at augustins:~/video$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib pre-barreau at augustins:~/video$ valgrind /home/pub/apps/ffmpeg_dev/ffmpeg_svn/ffmpeg -i

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
In the discussion of having a freedom-friendly camcorder or other video device, we discussed the idea of using intra-only Theora video to make post-recording editing a much easier process, allowing things like frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video again, thus incurring loss. I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had speculated that

Theora 1.0 final release
Theora is a video codec with a small CPU footprint that offers easy portability and requires no patent royalties. While the Theora bitstream format was standardized in 2004 and our beta releases have been used by millions, this 1.0 release is an important milestone reflecting the maturity and stability of the Theora codebase. A number of leading multimedia web groups already support Theora.

libtheora-1.0alpha7 release
All, I've done a new alpha release of the libtheora reference implementation. This is mostly build fixes from the alpha6 release; I'd failed to enable the new MMX asm by default, and the x86 asm code did a relocation that caused problems on SELinux. You can get it in the usual place: http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/theora/libtheora-1.0alpha7.tar.bz2

Building theora
Hello, I'm trying to get theora built. However there is not a page listing what depdencies there are. Would it be possible to have a developers page with the point release tarballs etc? (There is subversion access, but I do not have subversion for my OS). I could not find libtheora release, only an alpha, this wasn't very clear, it has been released now I think. The libogg and

theora release todos
Hi, last week's thread about getting closer to a release fizzled out. The mailing list discussion and the TheoraTodo wiki item suggest the following are required for release: 1. freeze the theora logical bitstream format 2. complete the reference implementation tools 3. stablize the libtheora API 4. complete the documentation I'd like to suggest this as
