Thank you. Updated patch below.
A copy of this email goes to the list of theora. The following patch
for the port of libtheora-alpha6 for OpenBSD includes (among other things):
* a patch for examples/Makefile.in that doesn't link player_example

Theora encoding tips
Hi,
I sent this message to the theora list but I'm not sure if it got
through (activity seems to be very low, regardless). I'm hoping I
have better luck here.

Tips for theora encoding?
Hi,
I wrote a plugin to enable LiVES (a video editor) to encode
theora/vorbis/ogg files. I'm looking for some advice towards
improving quality. If someone would like to help me
test this please note that you'll need MPlayer, ImageMagick,
sox, the encoder_example from libtheora (somewhere in the PATH),
and Python 2.3.0 (this is fairly all standard stuff).

libtheora 1.0 alpha 4 release
Ralph Giles posted this announcement at www.theora.org last week. I tried to
reword it for this list, but couldn't think of a way to improve it. In case
you haven't already seen this:
*******************************************************
We're pleased to announce a new release of the libtheora reference
implementation. This is an incremental update over alpha 3, in support of

Compiling CVS? (automake/autoconf problem with autogen.sh?)
I've eagerly grabbed the current CVS as of a few minutes ago, and attempted to
build and play with theora, but am running into a snag with the autogen.sh
script:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
bash-2.05# ./autogen.sh
I am going to run ./configure with no arguments - if you wish
to pass any to it, please specify them on the ./autogen.sh command line.

theora release todos
Hi,
last week's thread about getting closer to a release fizzled out.
The mailing list discussion and the TheoraTodo wiki item suggest the
following are required for release:
1. freeze the theora logical bitstream format
2. complete the reference implementation tools
3. stablize the libtheora API
4. complete the documentation
I'd like to suggest this as

theora header bitmap for alpha3
below is an rfc-style bitmap of the initial theora header. I've checked
it against the spec and the code in libtheora; please double check :)
I'm posting it here for those implementing demux stages (which necessarily
don't use libtheora), and hence offering it for the spec. A typical
demux stage just needs to pick out the FRN, FRD and KFGSHIFT fields,
without going through the whole

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
(I am sending this same message to theora-dev because I think it applies
to development discussion as well as user discussion.)
In the discussion of having a freedom-friendly camcorder or other video
device, we discussed the idea of using intra-only Theora video to make
post-recording editing a much easier process, allowing things like
frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and

Theora, liboil and Cell processors
Hello all,
On more than one occasion I have advocated the use of liboil over
incorporating mmx code into libtheora.
The two main reasons are:
1) To keep optimisation code in one place and out of the library.
Everywhere else in the Linux world there is a move to centralise in
order to co-ordinate experts and reduce redundancy. This reason does not
seem to find a lot of agreement in Theora as it

theora problems
Hi,
I've been trying to use libtheora-experimental (libtheoraenc and
libtheoradec) to encode a webcam feed in real-time, to be decoded
also in realtime by a second party via XXX-IP, with - unfortunately - not so
good results.
I'm using custom written functions to convert from RGB8 to YUV420 and back
and, although not much processor-efficient, they do
what they're supposed to

Theora 1.0beta1 released
Hello,
today I have the great pleasure of announcing Theora 1.0 beta1.
http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/theora/libtheora-1.0beta1.tar.gz
libtheora 1.0beta1 (2007 September 22)
- Granulepos scheme modified to match other codecs. This bumps
the bitstream revision to 3.2.1. Bitstreams marked 3.2.0 are
handled correctly by this decoder. Older decoders will show
a one frame sync error

olpc theora-svn testing
Hi,
I have done a simple libtheora test for the theora ticket
(http://dev.laptop.org/attachment/ticket/5988/), using theora-svn. The
results are at:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Theora#Testing
For the sake of discussion here, 've copied some comments from the
results section on the wiki:
- the patch for super fastmode seems to give an impressive speedup.
