low frequency content
Hello,
We are trying to figure out how to preserve the low-frequency content when
we try to convert a .wav file to an .opus file. What settings in Opus that
can accomplish this?
Sincerely,

memory constraints in ubuntu gutsy
Hello All,
I have a very large data set (1.1GB) that I am trying to read into R. The
file is tab delimited and contains headers; there are over 800 columns and
almost 700,000 rows. I am using the Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon version of R. I
am using Kernel Linux 2.6.22-14-generic. I have 3.1GB of RAM with the AMD
Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+. I downloaded R using the instructions from

OpenHDCapture
I just saw this project referenced on the video4linux mailing list, and
I thought others on this list might be interested (assuming they don't
already know about it):
http://www.opencircuits.com/OpenHDCapture
To summarize, the goal is to develop an open hardware device that can
capture video at 720p30 (1280x720, 30fps). At the moment I am not sure
if Theora has a direct relationship with

Sampling encoder timings between libtheora-1.0 & libtheora-1.1beta3
As requested by Ralph in my introduction e-mail to this list [1], I've
gone ahead and done some sample test timings for encoding between
libtheora-1.0 and libtheora-1.1beta3, as available from the Theora
website [2].
So far, I've tested with 4 different files that I generated with content
I already have. The files, in brief, are the following:

Counterstrike Source, Gold Status?
Hi,
im a fan of this game for quite some time now besides the community its a
really nice time killer.
After reading the wine app db entry it should run well, but it doesnt. It
almost immediately drops below 30fps if something happens.
Yes it looks almost like the windows version, the ingame font looks different.
But whats the point if you cant win any fight?
Ive used the latest wine on

More than 50% performance decrease.
I just installed Xubuntu 8.04, Wine 0.9.60 and Warcraft 3.
Ive set it so it uses OpenGL and in game i get less than 30fps with everything on low and a low resolution. On Windows i can run it on medium with 1280x800 at 60fps.
Im new to Xubuntu/linux so i dont know what could be causing it.
Is this expected from Wine?
Specs are 1GB RAM, Intel C2D 1.66GHZ, Intel 945GM onboard graphics.

FPGA implementation in the camera
I'm considering implementing the Theora format in the FPGA of the new
camera. The previous model (Elphel 313 - http://www.elphel.com,
https://sourceforge.net/projects/elphel) had smaller FPGA and was
able to produce just motion JPEG utilizing 97% of the resources. The
new (model 333) camera uses 3 times bigger FPGA (and also faster), it
also has increased frame buffer and system memory.

Trying to run (tweak) a few games on Wine
Hello,
I'm a relatively new user to Linux, it's only been two weeks since I'm using it. I'm trying to run two games right now : Halo and Live for Speed. Here are the issues for each.
Halo :
Performance in Halo is excellent, it's actually better in Linux than it was in Windows XP. Frame rate is good, looks like solid 60 FPS all the time. The only problem is the mouse movement

Interesting EverQuest overlay performance
First off, a big thank you to the Wine team for you efforts over the years. I haven't booted my Windows partition in over two months and am actually considering reclaiming the partition for something useful.
I was playing around with Wine+EverQuest trying to see how fast I could get my EverQuest session to run the last couple of days. I had been through all the fun NVIDIA bits related to

gstreamer oggmux and variable framerate
Hallo all,
I currently hacking on cheese an got problem with variable framerate
produced by webcams (2-30fps). There is no problem to encode it with
theora, but problem to mux it in ogg. Or at least to play produced file.
There is no problem tu mux it in to matroska.
My question is: should actually ogg support timestamps, also variable
framerate? If yes: it seems to be some where broken.

Hallo all,
I started this discussion today on gstreamer.irc and ogg-dev list. So
there seems to be different results. Probably i need to fill a bug on
gstreamer...
here was my question to ogg-dev

implementation in hardware
Andrey Filippov reports at his sourceforge website that he is 50% of the way
towards the implementation of ogg theora in a FPGA, and has a goal of
reaching 100% (leaving out motion compensation) by Dec. 14, 2004.
These are some of the tasks he has completed most recently:
Added 8-point forward DCT following the algorithm suggested in Theora specs.

I?m developing an application that needs to record audio and also draw
graphics at 30fps. Using a 32kHz sample rate the vorbis decoder causes
choppiness in the graphics because we will typically only do any
compression roughly every 1/16 seconds (2048 sample window size) so we
take just a little too long to process every second frame.
We have no preemptive multithreading but I can fix this

rsync 3.0.9 segmentation fault
Hi Roland,
Thanks for the reply. Memory usage on both machines seem fine. The server
has 4GB's of RAM, of which about 3GB is used during the file list build and
about 1.5GB is used during the actual transfer. The client has 16GB of RAM
with a peak usage of 8.5GB.
I just tried three transfers in a row and it consistently breaks at a
certain point, after which I get the "ERROR: out of

hi,
ok. i am pretty new to this list, but there seems to be little activity
at all.
first of all, here is a screenshot:
http://greenthumb.jabberstudio.org/video.png - it's screenshot of my
buddy list in my jabber client (java based).
I have a simple (or not so simple) task to achieve:
stream the video from one end through the jabber server to another end
and show the stream in my buddy
