Speeding Up Rsync for Large File Sets
We have a particular file system that we're trying to keep in sync
between two FreeBSD/ZFS servers using Rsync.
The file system has many millions of files, and about 4TB of data
total. Rsync takes HOURS to run, even when there are no files to
transfer. Just the comparison itself takes hours.
Is there any way to speed up the transfer? The command line I'm using is:

Creating a Streaming Server
Hi,
Is there any sample code out there that might give me a sort of "bare
bones" example of how to create an Ogg streaming server that would
produce a video/audio stream suitable for consumption by the HTML5
VIDEO element? The video being streamed will be generated dynamically
using libGL. I have the pixel data for each frame of the libGL
rendered image available to me, so really I am

Help with NFSV4 server
Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to setup an NFS v4 File Server but have come across
an odd issue. Mounting the /nfs4exports/share appears to be successful
and the information displayed about partition size and free space seem
correct but if I try to do anything inside the mounted directory the
client will just hang. Does anyone have any idea what I am missing?? I

nfs4 help needed
Fedora 13 is using nfs4, and there is a problem in opening files requiring
OpenOffice if accessed over an nfs3 mount, so it's time to change. I found a
couple of tutorials, and got it *almost* working correctly. This is where I
need help.
Logwatch tells me
/nfs4exports/Data1 and /Data1 have same filehandle for
*,192.168.0.0/24,192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0, using first

Autofs - can you mount only certain home dirs?
Does autofs take completed control of directories mentioned in
auto.master? The examples with /home show that you can specify
individual users instead of * and &, but even then it seems to take
over the whole /home level so you can't see or add local subdirs.
I have a small group of users/hosts where I would like to at least
temporarily mix/match who is automounted or not.

Fedora and CentOS no longer on speaking terms
I have just upgraded my server from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6 and am having
connectivity problems. My laptop runs Fedora 14, and I have been in the habit
of mounting data partitions on my server by fstab entries. Since the update
I've not been able to do that. On watching the messages during a reboot I saw
a statement that the connection was denied by the server (where are those

autofs and LDAP automount maps
Hi,
We've been using autofs and LDAP automount maps for years now, and it
has worked well. We run an environment that has CentOS, RHEL, Solaris
and FreeBSD servers and clients.
Historically, all our automount maps have looked like this:
-vers=3 server:/export/home/&
However, we're switching to NFSv4 and therefore we need to remove the
-vers=3 flag. For CentOS 6.3, Solaris and

I got it (was: Cisco 7940 with asterisk)
Hi again,
I found chan_skinny and that seems to work pretty good. the SCCP one
filled out all the buttons really nice, but skinny seems to be
working.
How do I fill out the second line button on the phone with skinny.conf?
Thanks much!

dsync backup gets stuck... fails
More dsync issues. We were running 2.1.7 and we updated to 2.1.9. Same
problem with both versions.
I'm getting an error 75 on about 40 boxes out of 1800. It is the same
list of boxes every time we use 'dsync backup' to backup the server.
dsync seems to stop communicating to the backup box (over ssh). strace
just shows it sitting at a epoll_wait. Once the program quits (times
out?), a

100 analog phones?? HOWTO?
Does anyone know the best approach to take for handling 100 analog
phones? It seems to me that a chassis like Carrier Access or Adtran
would work. The chassis would do much of the hard work of converting
the analog sound to data.
Any recommendations on hardware for the chassis?

Vorbis / Delphi Question
Hi all.
I just downloaded the vorbisdll_bin.zip file from the archive, which
appears to be the complete libvorbis in DLL format. This is wonderful
news, as I was trying to convert the C library to a Delphi library by hand,
and it was very slow in going.
The only question I have is has anyone translated the necessary structures
from C to Delphi yet? I noticed in the list that someone

My view on 1.0 release and version numbering
Just throwing out some thoughts here. I know Timo has high standards and
is trying to make 1.0 bug free before calling it 1.0. But I want to
argue for an earlier less perfect 1.0.
Dovecot is already way past the quality of most 1.0 releases. So it is
good enough by common standards. No one really expects a 1.0 release to
be perfect. But - some people don't consider a product ripe until it

Need fast Maildir to mdbox conversion
I looked around the 'Net to see if there might be a custom program for
offline Maildir to mdbox conversion. So far I haven't turned up
anything. The problem for us is that the dsync program simply takes a
lot of time to convert mailboxes. I wonder if time could be saved with a
program that is optimized to convert mailboxes without the fancy locking
that dsync needs to do. Does have (or

Vorbis vs OGG?
Hi there.
I'm a little new to OGG, so please excuse the stupidity of this question, but:
Could someone please tell me which of the two is the compression algorithm
and which of the two is the framing methodology? From what I can figure,
Vorbis is the compression and OGG is the framing. What is confusing me is
the fact that libvorbis has a bunch of functions that start with ogg_, so

dreaded Caller*ID failed checksum
Caller*ID used to work as some point, but I can't seem to get it going
these days. The card is a x101p. I've tried going up and down the
rxgain scale. Can the txgain effect it at all? When I plug in a phone
into the line with a splitter it can decode caller id with no problems.
Reading through the mailing list archives hasn't given me any
move clues. Any ideas?

CentOS 5.3 / OpenLDAP / back_perl
Hi,
I was wondering if there is any momentum to get OpenLDAP's back_perl feature installed into the CentOS Yum repository. If this isn't the right mailing list for such a request, could someone point me in the correct direction?
Thanks!

quota and dict
I have a question about using dict and quotas. I want dovecot to send
quota queries to a custom dict server over a socket. I'm doing this
because I can't do group quotas based on domain since a customer can
have each of their users associated with different domains under a
single account. I need to lookup the account ID and group based on that.
I'm worried putting everything in mysql
