Reverse Veto Files - let's try again!
Since the list responsiveness seems to be at a high, le me
take the opportunity to repost a message that got no
answers in March:
I've searched the list, and I can't find reference to this being
implemented:
reverse veto files - a list of files *allowed* rather than
the current list of files *denied*. Possibly implemented by
just allowing a ! in the veto files directive.

A strange file-ownership problem
The scenario:
I have two Samba servers on my network. One, running v3.0.37, is on my
main server, a Solaris 10 x86 box. The other, just updated from 3.0.37
to 3.4.5 in the hope of solving this problem, is on my workstation, a
Gentoo Linux box. The Linux Samba server shares only [homes]. The
Solaris Samba server shares [homes] and four other shares. Unix UIDs

How to delete only those rows in a dataframe in which all records are missing
Hi,
Imagine I have the following data frame:
> a <- c(1,NA,3)
> b <- c(2,NA,NA)
> c <- data.frame(cbind(a,b))
> c
a b
1 1 2
2 NA NA
3 3 NA
I want to delete the second row. If I use na.omit, that would also affect the third row. I tried to use a loop and an ifelse clause with is.na to get R identify that row in which all records are missing, as opposed to the first

failed exaile install
I'm trying to install the exaile package on my newly upgraded CentOS 6.4 machine.
It fails (see below) with missing dependencies on python-cddb and gnome-python2-gtkmozembed.
I found this thread but there does not seem to be any resolution. \
Has anyone got this installed?
Am I missing a repo?
Thanks,
Steve

remote DoS in sftp via crafted glob expressions (CVE-2010-4755)
Hi folks.
We were made aware of a MITRE CVE assignment on OpenSSH for a remote DoS
in sftp, described as:
The (1) remote_glob function in sftp-glob.c and the (2) process_put
function in sftp.c in OpenSSH 5.8 and earlier, as used in FreeBSD 7.3
and 8.1, NetBSD 5.0.2, OpenBSD 4.7, and other products, allow remote
authenticated users to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory
consumption) via

Shorewall''s bogon file needs updating
As far as I can tell from <http://shorewall.net/errata.htm> the current
shorewall bogons file is
<http://shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/errata/2.0.8/bogons> which contains
the line:
58.0.0.0/7 logdrop # Reserved
This is incorrect. These two /8s were allocated to APNIC as of April
2004. See also

samba becomes unreliable on upgrading to SOlaris 10
Hello,
we've been more than happy with Samba 3.0.22 on our Solaris 9 machines,
but when we upgraded to Solaris 10 users are experiencing a multitude
of XP desktop problems: icons disappear, start menu will hang because a
few items link back to a samba share, many XP windows write delay
problems, the whole desktop will hang. It seems the samba server will stop responding.
Is there anybody out

command for brand of monitor
Is there a linux command that would tell me what model of monitor is
presently attached to my computer?
Thought about automating different setups based on the monitor
connected. X config files basically.
Could be done with different kickstart files - but would like to not go
there if I dont have to.

Many STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE
I'm in the process of trying to track down the cause of frequent Delayed
Write Failures on our network. Most seem to be from database-like files
(e.g. firefox/thunderbird sqlite files) that are stored in the users
Application Data directory. The AppData directory in our case is on a
mapped network drive and excluded from the set of files copied back and
forth as part of the roaming

Fwd: dhclient and CVE-2011-0997...?
Hi--
Are folks familiar with:

Checking http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sbin/dhclient/dhclient.c, I don't see signs that it may have been updated. But, I also

Sometimes a user logging in takes a while. I suspect the
time delay is due to the size of a user's profile. Where
is the profile data kept and how can this data be scrubbed
or compressed?

Samba Breaks with ACLs
Hello,
We are running Samba 3.0.23c on Debian.
Over the weekend, we updated out file server to Debian's kernel 2.6.18. We
had previously never run a kernel with ACL support enabled. Since the
upgrade, we are seeing very strange permission behavior. It appears to be
related to POSIX ACL support in Samba.
It seems that what's happening is this.
We have a number of files that are

bind (named) compromised?
I'm having problems where my upstream bandwidth is being saturated. I've
narrowed it down to a DNS issue of some type. If I stop the named
service then my bandwidth drops to "normal" according to my untangle
firewall.
I'm running bind-9.3.6-20.P1.el5_8.6.
I'm seeing the following in /var/log/messages:

OpenSSL ASN.1 vulnerability: sshd not affected
Hi,
Tavis Ormandy found some bugs in OpenSSL's ASN.1 and buffer code that
can be exploited to cause a heap overflow:
http://lists.grok.org.uk/pipermail/full-disclosure/2012-April/086585.html
Fortunately OpenSSH's sshd is not vulnerable - it has avoided the use
of ASN.1 parsing since 2002 when Markus wrote a custom RSA verification
function (openssh_RSA_verify):
