problem cloning storage pool volume
I'm trying to clone a volume in a storage pool and I'm following the steps
described here:

remove cdrom after installing os on a guest
Hi all,
I have the following issue, and I hope someone know a way to handle it.
I need to grammatically need to create/install a guest OS using the
libvirt API.
Currently what I do:
1. create a xml with the vm configuration (this will include a path to the
iso image)
2. connection.defineXML(<my_config>)
3. vm = connection.lookupByName(<domain_name>)
4. vm.create()
This will

X100P Ireland Red Alarm (AR Tarzi)
Ahhh this could be my problem! I just checked which
wires on the RJ11 cable had a voltage across them and
it was the yellow and green (3 & 4?). From what
someone posted the other day it's supposed to be
Bumble Bee and Christmas Tree.
I did have to get a technician out to fix my line when
it was first installed because it was dead. Maybe he
wired it up incorrectly or maybe they just do it

removing virbr0
I am building a custom Linux image which includes KVM and will be installed
on multiple machines. By default when installing libvirt you get a 'default
network' which adds a 'vrbr0'.
I found several tutorials online about removing this 'virbr0' but I would
like to not have it in the first place.
I am compiling libvirt from source so I would think there is some compile

create a directory storage pool in a random location
Hi all,
I am trying to figure out if you can store the definition of a directory
storage pool in a custom location.
This is how I create the storage pool:
xmlDesc = """
<pool type='dir'>
<name>guest_images_storage_pool</name>
<uuid>8c79f996-cb2a-d24d-9822-ac7547ab2d01</uuid>
<capacity unit='bytes'>4306780815</capacity>

executing libvirt commands as a different user
I am using the libvirt API to manage VMs on the system, using a python
wrapper to execute commands.
I need to allow a webserver to access these commands and mostly read
information about the VMs. The problem is that when using the web interface
you use are basically running the commands as different user. Since
libvirtd is run as root by default you get permission errors.
Is there any way of

Sharing of Libraries (S+ and R)
Hi,
Can anyone please advise if there is a neat way to 'share' libraries of
(previously developed) S+ code with R?
Specifically, within S+ I can use the attach(what = "<Chapter Directory>",
pos = 2) command, to retrieve previously developed functions and variables
to position 2 in the search list. [Some may be intentionally masked by

generate interface MAC addresses in a particular order
Hi all,
I am using libvirt to manage VM on my system; after creating a VM (default
no NICs are present in the configuration) you can add any number of
interfaces to it (as long as they exist on the host).
To do that, I edit the configuration xlm:
vmXml = self.domain.XMLDesc()
root = ET.fromstring(vmXml)
devices = root.find('./devices')
intf =

Removing form observers
Hi,
I''m developing a Rails app which uses dynamic forms. To implement
these, I''ve used AJAX and Rails''s built-in form observers.
Unfortunately, I''m having a problem.
This is how the form starts:
* Country select box [OBSERVED] (Republic of Ireland selected)
* County select box [OBSERVED] (none selected, list of Republic of
Irish counties in the drop down)

libvirt domain configuration xml
I am trying to change a domain configuration from a python script. More
specific, I want to edit the VNC settings. You can't do this using the
libvirt API so you have to edit the domain configuration:
Fo exmple, to disable VNC for a domain 'test1':
vmXml = vm.XMLDesc(0)
root = ET.fromstring(vmXml)
devices = root.find('./devices')
graphics = devices.find('graphics')

migrate a guest from VMware to KVM
I am trying to migrate a VMware guest to KVM. I have the .vmdk file which I
convert to qcow2 format using qemu-img convert.
The next step is to import the new img file.
If I use virt-install --import <guest config options> it all works fine.
But when I try the same think using the libvirt API I get the "no boot disk
found" message when starting the vm.
When importing the VM

starting a domain only when you have enough resources
Hi all,
I am running KVM on a 3.18 kernel. The system runs and Atom processor with
2Gb RAM.
Using KVM you obviously can over allocate your resources: say you have 4
guests each configured with 1GB ram. Running all four at the same time,
depending on the workload, can crash the system - I get a kernel trace when
this happens.
But let's consider a simpler case: one guest with 1.5 Gb RAM,

I'm using R 2.2.0 on an up-to-date version of Fedora Core 4 with the

Add Columns and Order for Rbind?
I am using rbind to add one list with one row to another master list. The
problem is that not all columns exist in both lists.
What methods would you recommend to reorder one list based on the column
names of another? If both sets have the same order and columns, I can
then use rbind. I can live with columns being added to the master list set
it makes the task easier using something like
