processing of /vignettes and /inst/doc
It is stated in R-exts that Sweave files (.Rnw) are either processed in
/vignettes or /inst/doc, not both. Furthermore, it is stated that external
manuals and other files in /inst/doc will be installed.
This behaviour has been used to deal with the situation where a package has
two "vignettes", one that is easily processed and one that has a long
running time. This could be done by

packages with Sweave and knitr vignettes?
Now that R 3.0.0+ supports non-Sweave vignettes, R-exts \S 1.4.2 seems
to imply that
it is possible to include both Sweave and knitr vignettes in a single
package.
I'm wondering
if anyone has tried this and/or if there are some hidden gotchas putting
this into practice,
and concerned about creating problems with CRAN checks if I try this.
Consider two vignettes:

CRAN: How to list a non-Sweave doc under "Vignettes:" on package page?
Hi,
is it possible to have non-Sweave vignettes(*) in inst/doc/ be listed
under 'Downloads' on CRAN package pages? For instance, in my R.rsp
package I have a inst/doc/report.pdf (part of the source *.tar.gz)
that is not detected/listed. The PDF is not based on a Sweave
vignette but an *.tex.rsp vignette that is dynamically created via
inst/doc/Makefile. It is listed

vignettes: .png graphics or pre-compiled .pdf
In a package I'm working on there is a vignette with a number of graphs
that result in huge .pdf files, so
the .pdf for the vignette is around 17 Mb. If these graphs are
converted to .png, and the .tex file
is compiled with pdflatex, the resulting .pdf is ~1 Mb.
I'm reluctant to put the .Rnw file into the package as is, generating
the huge .pdf for the vignette.

R CMD build error during vignettes build
Hello,
I'm trying to rebuild a package (using R version 3.3.2 (2016-10-31))
that has not seen any changes since it was last built without problems
in previous R versions. It fails during vignette building with:

Where to put package vignettes
Dear R-devel list,
My name is Guillermo Vinu?. I have created an R package that includes a
vignette. Earlier on, to test my package, I tried to install it both in
Linux and Windows and it worked. My vignette was in /inst/doc.
Now, I have finished for good and before submitting my package to CRAN
I've tried to install it again first in Linux and then in Windows (I

R-exts.texi: suggestion for small change to Vignette section (PR#7323)
I recently wrote a vignette, with the following at the top of the .Rnw
file:
%%\VignetteIndexEntry{How to use look up tables for h() functions}
%%\VignetteDepends{sjedmin, spatstat}
Using vExplorer() on this function, I got an error from this part of
getVigInfo():

Suggestion: Custom filename patterns for non-Sweave vignettes
Hi,
as far as I understand it, the new R devel feature of processing
non-Sweave vignettes will (a) locate any "[.][RrSs](nw|tex)$" or
".Rmd" files, (b) check for a registered vignette engine, (c) process
the file using the registered "weave" function, (d) and possibly post
process the generated weave artifact (e.g. a *.tex file).
I'd like to propose to extend

Vignettes with long compute time
Is there a way to include the compiled version of a vignette in the doc directory but mark
it to NOT be rerun by CRAN??? I think I remember that this is possible, but have forgotton
how.?? (It might even be a false memory.)

vignettes present in 2 folders or won't work
Dear all,
I am struggling with an issue related to static vignettes: they work, but
only when present in double in the tarball -- in the folder inst/doc and
vignettes; see below for details.
Details:
I am pre-compiling heavy vignettes thanks to the vignette builder R.rsp.
So basically, I have PDF files which I want the package to use as Vignettes.
For this, I have the following in my

SweaveParseOptions, quoted commas, and knitr vignettes
I haven't figured it out entirely, but it looks like there are a
couple of small glitches with knitr-based vignettes and
SweaveParseOptions.
I posted the tarball of a package with a knitr vignette with (as far
as I can tell) everything properly coded in the DESCRIPTION file
(VignetteBuilder: knitr, Suggests: knitr) and the vignette itself
(%\VignetteEngine{knitr::knitr}). When Windows

I'm adding a couple of vignettes to an existing package.

file.system() in packages
Hello. R-devel, r61697.
I am having difficulty interpreting section 1.4 "Writing package
vignettes" of the R-exts manual. Specifically, I want to use
system.file() in some of my packages to locate a bib file,
uncertainty.bib, which is part of the emulator package. I only want
to maintain a single .bib file.
R-exts says: "All other files needed to re-make the vignette PDFs

help files and vignettes
Hi all,
I'm writing a vignette for my package, and I would like to include some of
the package help files in there as well. Is there an easy way of doing so?
I tried using R CMD Rdconv to generate latex files from .Rd files but I am
not sure how to include these into a .Rnw file (ie the vignette source). The
resulting file from Rdconv do not readily compile using latex ...
The other option I

Changing style for the Sweave vignettes
As a user, I am always annoyed beyond measure that Sweave vignettes
precede the code by a command line prompt. It makes running examples
by simple copying of the commands from the vignette to the console a
pain. I know the idea is that it is clear what is the command, and
what is the output, but I'd rather precede the output with some kind
of marking.
Is there any other solution possible /

build, data and vignettes
Based on some testing it seems to me that if I have a package with
a dataset in /data
a Sweave vignette in inst/doc (but no associated pdf file)
the vignette loads the data in /data through
data(dataset)
and I do a
R CMD build
R will try to build the pdf version of the vignette, but will be
unable to find the dataset in data because the package is not yet
installed. However, if I do
