Using AD groups for samba access
Hi, I'm trying to use AD groups to control access to samba exported disk space. The model is as follows: A unix group "ad_samba_group" owns the space to be exported. This group has no members. There is an AD group "test-ad-group" that has as members the people who are to be able to access the space. All users who access the space have local (nis) unix accounts. The

help with "rake db:migrate" error please?
Hi, Just trying to get my first database based rails app up on dreamhost.com. The app was working prior to putting in mysql DB usage but I''m just stuck on getting the app working with mysql. I''ve already created the database and can connect to it manually. Below is the error I get after running the rake migrate. It worked OK on my home PC environment. I did change the

Problems resolving most users with winbind and AD/SFU
Hello all, I'm having a problem with Winbind resolving some users from AD on a W2KSP4 server running SFU 3.5 [8.0.1969.1]. All users and groups in the AD domain have been assigned UIDs and GIDs via SFU. The Linux fileserver is running CentOS 5.3 with Samba 3.0.33-3.7.el5. The fileserver has been joined to the domain using authconfig with proper modifications made to nsswitch and pam.

Problems resolving most users with winbind and AD/SFU (Resolved?)
Problem solved. Sort-of. I just don't know why the solution works. Here's what I found... First, I tried updating SFU 3.5 with the following hotfixes: 913030, 886655, 887531, 932143, 883520, 894186, 931930, 892561, 896428, 888993, 932143, and 939778. No change. Second, I used ADSI Edit from the Win2k support tools to compare side-by-side a working account with a "Could not get

AuthorizedKeysCommand question
Hi, is there a particular reason why this feature is "user" based and not "user-pubkey" based? What I mean is that it works for installation with small number of pubkeys per user. But imagine i.e. a GitHub scale - all users logging in as user "git". On each auth request all the keys from database would be fetched and feeded to OpenSSH. Now I am only asking this out

Hi, I'm running samba-3.0.22, linux-kernel-2.6.16 and I'm having troubles with trusted domains. How can I find the suitable DC for each domain? Could be a resolution issue? Recommended CTDB release for new installation
Hi folks, We're building a new CTDB cluster - any recommendation on what version of CTDB is the most "production" at the moment? We're currently on 1.2.66 on our currently in-service clusters. Cheers, Orlando > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: [Samba] [Announce] CTDB 2.4 available for download > Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2013 14:11:29 +1000 > From:

Expiry of entries in netsamlogon_cache.tdb
I think we're suffering from bug 8641 at the moment: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8641 where the netsamlogon_cache.tdb entries are not expiring. We use AD groups for our (redhat) server auth, and also use server-side group auth for NFS (with the --manage-gids flag). So if a user is not in a group on the server, they're denied access to files as per group permissions.

Winbind being flakey
After some more screwing around with leaving and rejoining the ADS domain I was finally able to access a share with "valid users =" set to a domain group I was a member of. The _only_ change I made after this was to add yet another group to the valid users on the share and restart samba...after that I could no longer access the share. I removed the additional group, restarted samba and

Failing identification of users in trusted domains?
Hi all. I'm getting mad at this. I use winbind to authenticate users in multiple domains from AD. The config worked well, before upgrading from 3.5.3 to 3.5.10 in Mandriva. Now, if I 'winbind -i user.name' (so using the joined domain PERSONALE) I get the correct info, but if I do a 'winbind -i STUDENTI\\another.name' the answer is a 'Could not get info for user

Domain reconnection after network outage. (ME too)
Hello, I have a problem that seems to be similar as Ollivers (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.samba.general/61240/) but I cant find any answer to his question. After a network outage the samba server can't "reconnect" even after a _reboot_ of the whole server. I'm running Debian stable Samba 3.0.14a-3. The message I get in log.windbindd ----- [2005/09/28 10:10:54, 1]
