markdown implementation in C using PEG grammar
I've just uploaded an implementation of markdown in C. It defines
the syntax using a PEG grammar, so it should be easy to extend and
modify. Right now it can produce output in either HTML or LaTeX, but it
would be simple to add other output formats.
It's very fast: on my machine, it converts a 178K markdown file in
0.14 seconds (vs. 9.6 seconds for the latest Markdown.pl and 0.57

a new acceptance of a variety of (inconsistent) markdown implementations
babelmark sure does make it easy to convince people
that markdown inconsistencies are a mess of trouble.
before, people ignored the problem and/or its scope.
and waylan's new list just shows how big that mess is.
especially if we acknowledge all the other uses extant.
plus gruber's latest manifestation of his longstanding
reluctance to "fuck with it" means markdown is stuck.

Parser question + Markdown "wysiwyg"
Hi all
I've started writing an OS X Markdown "editor"[1] that semi-formats your markdown document as you write it. I just wanted to put something together, so went with a regexp-based setup for parsing -- Not ideal! I'd really like to use an existing parser, but I need to get access to the parse-tree *with* character offets, rather than just html output, as I'm adding

php-markdown-extra-extended - my humble attempt at extending php-markdown
Dear all,
I have used Markdown via Drupal a few months now, with a customer site
and my currently my own blog and based on that practical experience I
wanted to add some extra functionality to PHP Markdown Extra, so out
of this grow my (extended) weekend project
https://github.com/egil/php-markdown-extra-extended
The big missing item right now that I would like to implement is the
ability to add

Object-Oriented PHP Markdown/SmartyPants
This is something that I've been asked for many times. So today I'm
announcing that all future versions of PHP Markdown and PHP
SmartyPants will be encapsulated in a parser class. This has two
major benefits:
1. It should make extensions to the syntax easier to create and
maintain as it is now possible to now extend the parser by
replacing (overriding) only the relevant

New Markdown parser in Perl: Markdent
I've recently released a new Markdown parser in Perl, called Markdent.
This differs from the existing Perl tools (and most other language tools
I've seen) in that it's an event-driven parser.
This lets you analyze the document in much more interesting ways, as well
as cache parse results (but not HTML generation), and do other fun stuff.
The module is also designed so that

PHP Markdown 1.0.1g & Extra 1.1.3
This is a bug-fix release for PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra.
It's almost identical to version 1.0.2b8, minus the new features
introduced in the 1.0.2 betas (shortcut links, markdown attribute
support for plain PHP Markdown), plus a few minor improvements. You
can download PHP Markdown & Extra from the project page:

PHP Markdown 1.0.1n & Extra 1.2.4
Hello all.
This is an update to PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra correcting a
couple of bugs that got reported since last release.
I also decided to enable in this release shortcut-style reference
links (as present in Markdown.pl 1.0.2 beta), as most implementations
of Markdown accepts them by default. It's also because waiting for
John to release officially version 1.0.2 as an

PHP Markdown Lib 1.3
This is the first release of PHP Markdown Lib. This package requires PHP version 4.3 or later and is designed to work with PSR-0 autoloading and, optionally, with Composer. You can download it from the PHP Markdown website:

PHP Markdown Lib 1.3 (Beta 4)
This is basically a pre-announcement. I'll make the announcement more official by posting it on my blog when it goes out of beta.
There's a new branch to PHP Markdown. It contains the two exact same parsers found in PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra, but without all the cruft. In other words: is packaged to be used as a library, and only as a library. The two parsers classes are in the

PHP Markdown 1.0.1i & Extra 1.1.5
Earlier this week I talked about an updated version of PHP Markdown
which can parse the whole TextMate manual in about 1.5 seconds (iBook
G4 1.2 Ghz). Here it is.
I've also updated Extra. It's nowhere as fast as PHP Markdown right
now -- parses the TextMate manual in 5,8 seconds, and it doesn't
scale linearly -- but Extra still benefits much from PHP Markdown's
speed

New parser-based Markdown implementation for Java
Markdowners,
just a short heads-up to a newly released Markdown implementation:
"pegdown" (http://github.com/sirthias/pegdown) implements a Java Markdown-to-HTML processor based on a PEG parser with the grammar being based on John MacFarlanes C implementation "peg-markdown".
pegdown uses "parboiled" (http://www.parboiled.org) for the actual parsing work and, as

PHP Markdown 1.0.1d
I decided 1.0.1d would be about fixing bugs. PHP Markdown 1.0.1d is
simply version 1.0.2b7 with a couple more bug fixes and some features
disabled.
I disabled support for [this] as a synonym for [this][] because it's
still labeled as experimental and because it's nowhere to be found in
the documentation yet. The `markdown="1"` hack added to 1.0.2b7 has
been disabled

PHP 5 port of Markdown, plugin-based
Hi,
First of all, thanks to John Gruber for the fantastic Markdown syntax
and parse/render system. Also, thanks to Michel Fortin for his PHP 4
version of Markdown.
Based on those two works, I have completed a **plugin-aware** PHP 5
version of Markdown. You can see it in Subversion here:

PHP Markdown Extra fork for MathJax
My fork of Michel Fortin's PHP Markdown Extra has been updated to
include support for MathJax as well as jsMath. Both of these are
JavaScript libraries for using LaTeX syntax, e.g., \(E = mc^2\), to
include high quality, scalable equations (not just bitmapped images of
equations) in your HTML pages.

some bug fixes.
See the download link on the project's page:

This update also features a new emphasis parser which process regular
and strong emphasis in one pass instead of two and four for previous
versions of PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra. The new parser

Javascript implementation of PHP Markdown Extra?
I've been using the John Fraser's Showdown JavaScript port of Markdown
to do real-time previews in-browser. But I also would like to take
advantage of some of the extensions in Michel Fortin's PHP Markdown
Extra. Has anyone already tried to implement Markdown Extra in
JavaScript?
Thanks,

PEAR Channel and Git Repository Mirror for PHP Markdown & Extra
Until today, the only way I offered PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown
Extra was with packaged zip files available on my website. It turns
out, unsurprisingly, that some people would prefer a simpler path for
keeping their copy of PHP Markdown up-to-date.
So today I announce two additional ways of grabbing PHP Markdown and
PHP Markdown Extra. The first one is a PEAR channel which can be used
